Title: Ingersoll - Seattle WA
Post by: Sly on September 05, 2012, 04:16:30 PM
Not sure if there's already been a topic for this, but I want to share it for anyone around Seattle who's looking for support and friends.

Ingersoll is a weekly trans support/discussion group held at Seattle Counseling Service downtown, on Wednesday nights from 7 to 9.  I don't go that often because of scheduling conflicts, but I've met some really awesome people there.  They can also hook you up with resources like a local LGBT legal office, and the place where it's held specializes in counseling for LGBT folks and is sliding-scale fee based.  They have potlucks and camping trips, too!

Also there is the Washington Gender Alliance in both Bellingham and Everett (WA).

And for the south, there's Gender Alliance for South Sound.

If you want to have a more social and family type of support group Gender Alliance of the South Sound aka 'GASS'  is for you. I try and go to every meeting and major events. I live in South Thurston County.

The United Church of Christ in Everett has PFLAG meetings the third Tuesday of every month, and a LGBT group every Thursday night. I go to that church and it is wonderful. There are several trans people there and other members of the LGBT community. The Church is very supportive and open. I really love it there, and can completely be myself. They don't even care if you are of the same faith as them. Everyone is welcome.

Also, for vets like myself, the VA has a trans support group that meets the first Tuesday of every month.

Wow, at one point I lived fairly close to the United Church of Christ without ever knowing it was there (until now, that is). I'm not religious, but it would have been nice to attend the support group during that time.

Amrisa is telling the truth about this one.  It is a great place and there are fantastic people there that make you feel all sorts of welcome.
