I just interviewed for a new job and the health plan that they have is a high deductible plan with a $2000 deductible, but they set up a health flex savings account and put $1500 per year in it for you. I've never heard of these plans. Does anyone here have one? What would it mean for me in regards to therapy, hrt and so on? Am I only on the the hook for $2k a year or is it $2k per visit? I really want this job, but this could be a deal breaker.
I'm self employed and have the same kind of plan. It's actually much cheaper for the company on premiums but for you it should be the same in terms of access. You effectively have a 500 deductible (and whatever co-pays there are). Therapy and hormones count on the plan for the deductible and then paid coverage only if transgender health issues are covered in the policy coverage description. For me they are not currently and i am paying out of pocket for therapy.
In other words, coverage is one question, payment structure with the high deductible is the other question.
Hope this helps, I know health insurance is a huge concern!
Michelle, it sounds like a pretty good plan. We have a $2000 deductible with no health savings account and 20% copays. Our plan isn't the best. But it is all we have available. I wish the new health plan would have mandated that each insurance company offer the same basic plan and that there is only one pool of people to base their rates; everyone.
