I have a scar between my nose and lip that is a line going from the nose to the lip where they stitched me up cause a dog bit my nose and face...its not too bad but I want to diminish the look of it, does scar cream or gel that sells for $20 help? What about treatments? I also have a scar on my back from surgery there when i had titanium spacers put in my spine...id like to diminish that one too. oh and the scar from my umbilical hernia and also appendix lol
Not to mention I have some stretch marks now from loosing weight.
Dermaroller treatment will help soften scars.
Hey, no idea if this topic is still open for debate, but here goes...
If the scar is contoured, a spot of dermabrasion may help soften its appearance. It removes the top layer of scar tissue to smooth out the indent. Its a surgical procedure and takes time to heal, so you may not be up for it if the scar doesn't particularly bother.
A dermaroller is much less invasive and prompts the release of collagen around the area to encourage skin rejuvenation, so that could be ideal. Personally, I haven't tried it though.
As for more mundane methods, I've tried Bio-oil for several years. It didn't do much, other than slightly change the coloration. Vitamin E oil worked well, but I've had much better results on Mederma - its price usually fluctuates on Amazon, so you may get it for somewhere in your price range. For older scars however, you may have to use it regularly for upwards of 6 months.
(FWIW I was assaulted several years ago and received 80+ stitches to my face, so you could say its a passion of mines)
