BOSTON — A Massachusetts inmate who battled with state prison officials for 12 years says a judge's decision to grant his request for sex-change surgery is "the right thing to do."

[...]

Wolf's ruling prompted an outcry among some legislative leaders, who say Kosilek, a convicted murderer, is not entitled to the taxpayer-funded surgery.

Kosilek tells The Associated Press in a phone interview from prison that gender-identity disorder is a "valid medical condition," though he knows some don't view it that way. He said he's entitled to medical treatment, just like other inmates.

Egg-zachary. What's disturbing is she has been a woman for years, even been on hormones, also court-approved, and is still in a men's prison. With or without the SRS, they need to get her out of there.

they will have to once the operation occures she will then be a high risk prisoner and the isolation costs alone would be enough to warrent the prison transfer as well as other behavioral issues that would arrise from having a female inmate alone with what amounts to hundreds of males

Speaking from experience...

They usually separate trans persons from general population and place us in SNY (Special Needs Yard). SNY houses everyone from gang drop outs to child molesters. It's not a fun place to be.

All the more reason to stay out of trouble! :-)
