Title: Pre Hrt, Pre therapy, insights from you?
Post by: little bird on September 23, 2012, 09:41:29 PM
Hi, I hope you all are doing well.  I have been dealing with my gender issues all my life.  Like the rest of you girls.  I am now 24 and a half.  I just talked to a transgender support group and they are setting me up with a therapist.  mmm, my question is just, lately my feelings have been so strong on this issue, I realize that it will never go away.  What can I expect from my therapist visits?  How long do they typically last before you are able to start hrt?  Any other insights from your personal experience would be much appreciated.  I went to my first transgender awareness fair by my town and felt so at peace.  Thanks for reading, bless you ~

Hi, I am 24 and a half too. I am from the UK though so it is all pretty different from the US (assuming that is where you are from). I don't really know the exact answers to your question but no one will some of them. It all depends on your therapist when you get on HRT and stuff. They are just gonna ask about you though and how you feel about things. Good luck.

You sound like me though I had just turned 25 when I couldn't fight it any more.

For the first few months my Therapist was a mentor and a guide and helped me deal with the issues of starting transition. Now three months later I am independent, at peace with my family and I started HRT just last week.

The therapist isn't there to diagnose you or convince you whether or not you are trans or whether transition is what is right for you, only you can know these things. Your therapist is there to help you through the process of discovering and becoming your true self.

:)  Hehe, I forgot I posted this.  Thanks for your responses.  And thats cool we are all basically the same age, And yes, the feelings are very overwhelming and insanely powerful. Its quite crazys. I been seeing my gender therapist for 3 weeks now.  So i've seen her three times.  Last time I went I went dressed and felt sorta awkwarddddd but it was all good.  She was also a bit shocked to see me hehe but she was fine with it.  We been talking about everything, and she said it would be a good idea to tell my mom.  My mom has "caught me" when I was very young a few times.  She said It might open things up a little more since I'm quite shy and introverted.  She also said something to think about is for halloween (since is right around the corner) it would be ideal to maybe go dressed and you can see how you feel around friends and in public you know?  sooo I got some things to think about  :), and I feel like im sorta all over the map at times buttt its prolly just sorta scrambled from years of hiding and being forcefully shaped into something i'm nowt.  anywho,  yah it may be a little different from the uk, it twas nice chatting to you two
