So when Haverhill High School students organized to push for tolerance of gays, bisexuals and transgendered people, Cosgrove, a computer technology instructor at the school, got on board. He was one of 50 teachers who wore T-shirts bearing the words "Gay? Fine by me" yesterday at Haverhill High.

"When people make fun of my son, it hurts like a punch in the stomach," Cosgrove said. "To me, an event like today's is all about teaching tolerance. This is the kind of event that builds community."
