This probably seems like a ridiculous question.
I started the process for top surgery, have my consultation on Wednesday, and I have only one thing I'm afraid of.
I'm have horrible emetophobia.
Did your top surgery (anesthesia, or anything to do with top surgery) make you throw up?
When I came round I was shaking, must of been a reaction to something, it didn't stop so the nurse in recovery gave me something to stop it and that made me throw up. I have emetophobia too but I don't remember it bothering me but then it happend really quickly, as soon as she'd given it to me I felt sick and threw up once but right away afterwards I didn't feel sick anymore.

For the longest time I didn't even consider top surgery because I'm too afraid of it making me get sick. I wonder if it's possible to request anti-nausea medication to go along with it all to avoid it before it happens if it were going to.
They give anti-nausea medicine with morphine sometimes so it is feasible that they could do the same for you.
After surgery, I was awake for maybe an hour or two and had eaten some graham crackers and drunk some soda, was getting ready to go home, and was just priding myself on the fact that I hadn't thrown up when all of a sudden I did. I hadn't been feeling nauseous or anything until a few seconds before it happened, and the nausea went away right after I threw up. It wasn't a big deal at all, I'm just glad it happened before I got in the car to go home. Ick.
You have to fast before surgery so even if you do throw up, nothing or nothing much should come out. I threw up twice at the hospital but it was mostly dry heaving. Some stuff came up but not a significant amount and no mess was made because the nurses were always at the ready with barf bags. I used to be emetophobic too and I still hate to puke, but you know, it's never as bad as you build it up to be, especially because when you're done you actually feel great as opposed to just normal.
Keep in mind too that you will be in a hospital and you will be hooked up to an IV the entire time, and if you tell a nurse you feel nauseous, they can send medication straight into your system and it will be very fast-acting. When i initally woke up out of anaesthesia I mentioned feeling sick, they put something in my IV and the feeling passed right away.
Also, your surgeon might prescribe you anti-nausea pills for home use (mine did) so you can continue to medicate for it once you're out of there
I didn't have any problems whatsoever, and I tend to have a wonky stomach.
i havent had top surgery but i have been under anesthesia (a year ago) and i didnt throw up didnt even feel nauseous. i think newer anesthesia doesnt have that effect on people, because my father had knee surgery (tore his ACL, MCL, and meniscus) that was about 7 yers ago i want to say. he puked a lot at first, right after waking up.
The first few minute i felt nauseated but after the nurse gave me a few sip of warm water i felt fine.

I've had surgeries before and anesthesia never made me sick, but with different things it varies. Some surgeries need different cocktails of anesthetic drugs, and I don't have a clue what they use for chest surgeries. Suppose I just have to go balls out and see what happens.

Also, it might depends on your doctor's decision too. I was told they were going to use good medicine for the anesthesia. My head was spinning waking up from the surgery, but I felt no nausea, no pain on my chest. I was able to walk around by myself and ate a full bowl of pasta by the evening.
I had top surgery on Thursday and I did not become sick or nauseous at all. Most doctors will give an antinausea medication with any painkillers because many people become nauseous from them. In fact, even the painkiller pills I was given to take home came with antinausea prescription as well, but I have not needed that.
I trew up under and right after the surgery, and was generally pretty sick, But I think I also was abit sick before my surgery.
I was scared that I was going to have terrible nausea and sickness from the anaesthetic, given that that's my body's response to basically anything, and I tend to react to things in the same way as my mum, who reacts very badly to general anaesthetic.
Thankfully, miraculously, I experienced no nausea or sickness at all.
I believe you should bring this up to the doctor. From what I have read it is a common concern. I had surgery years ago and didn't get sick. I hate getting nauseous.

I had never had surgery until my chest surgery (well I had had my tonsils taken out in 1976 but...) so didn't know what to expect in terms of nausea.
I'd mentioned to my surgeon that all pain meds make me barf so she made sure there was an anti nausea med in my anesthesia just in case. Post surgery I just took Advils and was fine...
I felt mildly sick to my stomach after I tried to eat a cracker in recovery, but I never threw up. When I mentioned feeling nauseous, the nurse put a shot of anti-nausea medication into my IV and the feeling went away after a few minutes. I just took it easy, used the bathroom, and had a few more bites of the cracker and some water. Don't force yourself to eat if you still feel sick to your stomach, and just ask for any medication to stop the nausea. You'll feel much better once the anesthetic starts to go from your system(basically, once you use the bathroom and drink a lot of water to clear it out).
The person you should talk to about the anti-nausea medication before hand is the anesthesiologist. Mine basically told me what he would be using, asked me if I had ever been under anesthesia before, etc. and wrote up some instructions for the nurses after my surgery to follow if I had any issues.
I did not. but i do know people who anesthesia makes them throw up. don't think it's too common though
