Title: My friend just won the mega millions
Post by: Annah on October 04, 2012, 02:16:53 PM
A friend of mine in Seminary just won the mega millions. Needless to say she will not need to worry about finding a job anytime soon.

She did do something admirable, she is donating much of it to various charities including HRC, GLAAD, and some others.

She never played the lottery in her life until this one ticket lol

we could start trans safe housing for some of our elderly and disabled brothers and sisters..

no one seems to want to donate to trans causes but they all donate to gay and lesbian causes ..

I did what i could back in 2001 to 2003 with the last of my savings = http://web.archive.org/web/20070503033734/http://hometown.aol.com/danielegrl/myhomepage/news.html (http://web.archive.org/web/20070503033734/http://hometown.aol.com/danielegrl/myhomepage/news.html) = "a trans place of our own"

Now i am working on this farm in hopes of making it a place for us when we get older or sell it to buy another place but its not totally done yet for me to get the most value to be able to afford to buy elsewhere..

Alright, victory is ours!

Invest it wisely, I read somewhere that if you save one dollar the first day, two the next, then four, etc in a month you'll be a millionaire!

(Then again...I really, really love Snickers bars... ;) )

anti-straight marriage bill, hey I kind of like that I can see myself in washington DC saying DOWN WITH STRAIGHT MARRIAGE IT IS A SIN!!!!!! MY RAINBOW COLORED GOD DEMANDS IT.

I refuse to say more as I don't want to get into religion.

If I won mega millions I would put alot of money away and buy myself, and about 2 other people SRS O-o that I know in RL, and maybe 1 or 2 I know on these forums xD

No offense, but there is no way I will live in a community with all transsexuals :)

1. I almost ripped my hair out at the Southern Comfort Conference when trans were sizing each other up as to who was the prettiest, who passed the best, who could attract the most ->-bleeped-<- ->-bleeped-<-s lingering about the hotel lobby, who was the coolest. I swear it was like a 10th grade dance with all the cheerleaders in a bathroom bragging about their boobs and their teeth or something.

2. I identify myself as female. Not trans. Yes, I am trans by the strictest sense of the medical definition and I embrace and welcome trans people....but I don't welcome them because they are trans. I welcome them because they have the courage to admit who they are. If I lived in a city of all trans, then I would be trans. Not female. I would be using trans bathrooms, eating at trans restaurants, sleeping in a trans bed and playing trans soccer. I am just more simpler than that. Call me a female and I'll be happy.

Good for her. I hope to one day become a self-made woman with a million dollar+ salary. Until then I just have to continue my education with my Ph.D.in statistics and  start a Ph.D. in electrical engineering in a few years and hopefully time for a JD and MBA.

Well you are blessed many are not and many more are elderly and many are disabled.. so for you i understand but for these others well i care ..

I am not saying you don't but many do not and they only care about themselves and how they are seen..

we are all spirits and our outer shells are just that

Many are physically disabled and we all will be elderly and many of our elderly spent all they had to transition if they had anything at all and many don't pass and can't fit in and well my heart is for them..

I will get there so don't worry and i pray you don't need help as i pray all don't but i know that is unrealistic

I know people may not believe me, but if I won the mega millions, I would give it all away since I wouldn't need it. I just can't think of anything to use the money for. I seriously don't live a very extravagant lifestyle. All I need is food, a studio apartment to crash in every once in a while, music, cheap clothes, water, a mattress on the floor, and my bike//exercise stuff.

Well, that's very kind of you.  :P <--tongue hangs out thinking of gabamazillions of American dollar notes May I send you my name, address, and phone number (and the name of my financial institution) so when/if you win you could give it all to me? I promise I'll use it for only the most charitable organizations...

*runs off to file a claim for "Beth Andrea's Trustworthy and Benevolent Fund for Wayward Trans-People and Their Various Concerns"*

I'll even buy you a new mattress from Goodwill, and perhaps--if it's on sale--a lovely shag carpet for your studio...Ooh! And a lava lamp! (My tastes all run to the '70s, I don't know why LOL) ;)

Well, I never want to play the lotto, so that was purely hypothetical. Even if I won, I would just straight-up donate it to the MDA, St. Judes Cancer Research Foundation, and other charities.

Well.

You're just too serious.  ::)

...C'mere Devlyn, I'll share my dust bunny with...err...that doesn't sound right. Surely you wouldn't want *my* dusty bunny...Oh just shoot me now.  :-*

You have a better chance of hitting the lotto than getting those 4 degrees.  Besides, by the time you got them, you'd be too old to enjoy the money.

Many of my relatives have multiple advanced degrees. For instance, Uncle has a MS in EE and CS, Ph.D. in EE, and a MBA. I am currently working on my Ph.D. in Statistics. I hope to start my Ph.D. in EE right after finishing my Ph.D in Statistics. A MBA from a big name university can be easily obtainable while working in industry. I am not worried about Law School, since well I took the LSATs and I scored at the top (not surprising since I was a pure/applied math, economics, and computer science undergraduate - pretty much mostly logic based material which is what they LSATs mainly test). I plan to be in my 'young' thirties once I finish all my degrees. Okay so maybe I will be a bit old before my life actually starts, but so do doctors.

Wow, I am impressed. Really. My short-lived college time was aimed at getting a BS in astrophysics, and that was hard enough.

If I may ask...what's the relationship (for you) between the various goals?
PhD Statistics
PhD EE
MBA
JD (which is...what?)

When I was a loan processor at a mortgage company, the loan officer that I had worked under not long before won 8 million in a local lottery. She stayed with the company for a little while saying she was going to keep working but that didn't last long. I think she quit after another month or two. The office figured it out when she didn't show up for work that day and they went and looked up the name of the winner. The office was in such a buzz.

If I won a big lottery jackpot, I'd be tempted to start a trust fund to fund SRS for transsexuals. A trust that could earn 5% annually on $2 million capital could finance about $100K in surgeries annually. That's 4-5 MtF SRS or 2-3 FtM SRS, I think.

PhD in statistics since statistics is basically used in every field of work and it seemed to be a natural progression from my primary undergraduate degree of pure & applied math (graduate degrees in those would be more limiting since employers seem to want more statistics degrees). I also wanted to work as a hedge fund quant for my younger years and PhD in a quantitative field is required.
PhD in EE since my original undergraduate degree was that and I suppose I was intimidated in the courses since every single girl in the courses seemed to drop and I became uncertain if I wanted to continue, which is why I went to math since it was the most versatile major for the sciences. Now I am sure I want to obtain my EE simply to pursue my own interest in after I exit the quantitative analysis career and I would like to be a role model for young women who may be intimidated. I may also take over my Uncle's company when he decides to retire in a long time from now.
MBA so I would be better qualified for management position or to run my own company when the time comes. As long as it is from a big name university it helps.
JD is a law degree. I want to work in or as a consultant for a law firm and with my PhD in statistics would be great for supporting or disclaiming findings indirectly derived. I want to make sure minorities are given fair trials.
Yes I plan to work 6-7 days a week. I was raised to be a workaholic and my mother and grandparents are/were workaholics. My father on the other hand never truly worked a day in his life nor was in my life, but that is a long story.

I did a "lol" yesterday with this comment. Not because of the endeavors you mentioned but because there was a girl here last year who was banned (not for this) that claimed to already have an applied Mathematics degree with a minor in Computer Science,  Ph.D in statistics, Ph.D in EE, an MBA and a JD. Same exact degrees.

It's also all the degrees together that the characters in the movie "the sphere" has.

My first and only Ph.D. when I am done will have taken me 10 years of fulltime college (18-20 credit per semester plus winter and summer courses).

Three doctorates and an MBA...if u do decide to pursue all these...well...you'll  be collecting social security before it's all done....not to mention your debt.

Even with scholarships (lots of scholarships) my bill is at 70K with the BS, MDiv, Ph.D.

My ex brother in law..with scholarships has a bill of 130K foe his BS, MBA, and JD. It took him 7 years fulltime classes. I just found out it took him 12 years fulltime to get those three degrees.

My brother is planning to go to medical school in another year and plans to specialize in something, but the debt from what will be in the 500k+ range. It will also he 10 years or so after he finishes his residency before he sees any real money.

Where are you getting these numbers?

A Doctorate from a Private Institution in Medicine costs $180,000. Not $500,000.

Also, residency is 3 years and another 2 if they wish to specialize in a field (such as Child Neurology, Child Cardiology, etc). A Chief Senior Resident is a Resident MD who spends an extra year past her/his 3 year residency.

A PGY 1 starts at 42K a year and that salary increases 3,000 a year for however long she or he stays in the residency. Not too shabby since you don't have to pay for malpractice insurance as a resident (the company you will be in residency with will cover your costs).

My mother is a Doctor. When she left her residency she started to make 180,000 a year from 55,000. However, since she has to pay out 65,000 a year in mal practice premiums (average for a Cardiologist in good standing), she only makes a 115,000 a year. In reality, she received a 60,000 pay raise..and not a 125,000 pay raise....and this doesn't include her staffing costs and loan paybacks.

If you do get all those degrees, remember, you wont find a job that will pay you for each and every degree u get. In all honesty, you'll be 60 before u finish school and if you land a job, they aren't going to altar your paygrade based on the 5 doctorates you'll get. For example, if a firm hires you for a position in statistical marketing based on your Ph.D in statistics they wont give you an added title and separate pay check for a Corporate attorney.

Many of my professors has two doctorates but they get paid just a smudging more compared to the one doctorate professors...and it has nothing to do with their degrees...it's their experience. They are much older and have been teaching longer (hence the multiple docts)

And your uncle got 5 degrees..2 of em masters and 2 of them doctorates in about 10 years  on top of a fulltime job? Sorry..i dont thin Doogie Howser could pull that off
