Title: I need new clothes....I don't know where to start o_o
Post by: Jeatyn on October 26, 2012, 06:41:01 PM
Lately I've been really fancying getting myself a nice new wardrobe. Almost everything I own at the moment is cheap, from discount stores or charity shops and nothing really properly fits.

I don't really know where to begin looking for some nice stuff, I've looked around a few stores and done some google'ing but I'm like meh =/ I have no idea what I want to buy. I can't afford to make mistakes :D it's all fine and well if you buy each item for £1.50 and it looks naff or doesn't fit but it's a whole other story if I'm spending £20-£30-£40 per item.

There's LOADS of information online about how to dress to flatter your body shape if you're a woman, but I haven't come across any such guides for men.

The look I really want to achieve....I can't really pull off with my current body shape. Ideally I'd love to be in skinny jeans and tight t-shirts but that style would do me absolutely no favours.

What styles would you suggest for a short, pear shaped man?  :P

The advice for pear-shaped women could be applied to pear-shaped men. The only difference is clothing options. From what I remember, and what I have done, pear-shaped figures should try a slightly higher waist-line with a straight seam in dark, neutral colors. The bulk of the jean, if any, should be towards the feet. With the top half, you'd want something fit - no baggy T's or, on the opposite scale, too tight T's. Adding a button up shirt, jacket, or vest (etc.) that squares the shoulders (shoulder padding, perhaps, if you're not that broad-shouldered). Also, using a scarf can detract from the middle, but that also depends on your style.

The best thing to do is try things on and see how they look. Even if you order online, most of the time you can return items for full price within a set time. Just my two cents worth. Good luck.

Basically for most guys (and myself back in the distant misty past), any clothes that fitted across the shoulders or round the waist were just fine. Most men have absolutely no sense of style and that is why nobody wastes time producing clothing advice for men.

For instance, mens' trousers are basically a sack with two big tubes for legs and huge pockets that lots of stuff can go in. Because of the pockets the legs are very loose, so as long as they go around the waist and are long enough to fit the legs then for most men that is good enough....

Welcome to the style desert.....  :D

Dark colored slacks, not to tight or loose. Keep the waist slightly below the natural waist. Light colored (beige, white, light blue, light brown) tailored coats.

If going sport: sport tailored shirts with long sleeves rolled up mid way the forearms. V-neck sweaters with horizontal stripes. Baggy sweat-, and polo-shirts

Sheoes, boots or dress shoes with a slight heel.
