The already strong voices of Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) and OutServe just became stronger as the two organizations voted to unify into one during the 2012 International Leadership Conference in Orlando, October 27.

As one organization, OutServe-SLDN will work together to bring about full equality, equal recognition, and support and benefits for all military families. OutServe-SLDN will continue to highlight the stories and faces of service members, veterans, and families harmed by discriminatory laws; continue to work to correct the records of those who were discharged under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," to ensure they reflect honorable service; and ensure that all qualified LGBT Americans who wish to serve their country in uniform are able to do so free of discrimination and harassment.

The organizations' boards of directors voted to combine and elect co-chairs that will lead one board of directors of Outserve-SLDN. The co-chairs include Retired Navy Captain April Heinze, who previously served as co-chair of SLDN, and Josh Seefried, co-founder and previous co-director of OutServe.
