Hey all! Lately I've been working hard to improve my life and so far I've been doing pretty well.
I've got a full-time job, working towards getting my high school diploma (I didnt graduate), and have been getting a lot healthier (quitting weed and smoking)
When I was little I used to participate in judo and I was pretty good at it but I havent done it in a long time. I miss it and I want to get back into it and get my black belt someday (the things you can do after you quit smoking :)).
But the club I went to when I was little knew me as a girl, and now I'm a guy and want to train and compete as a guy. I'm afraid that they won't let me train and compete with the other guys because I'm biologically female. I was wondering if any of you knew about how to go about being a transgender athlete, and if you are one, what were your experiences?
Any and all comments are much appreciated. I really want to get back into judo and be strong and healthy again, but I'm hesistant because of the whole being transgender thing. Thanks for reading and I look forward to your replies :)
Do you take T? If you do it would be kind of unfair to compete against the girls. Because face it: T makes you stronger.
No I haven't started T yet. Hoping for march for that. and I have no desire to compete against girls anyway lol
Is there another Club around you? if all else fails, go there. That said, talk to the people who run the place. If you live in a more accepting area (California, a big city, etc.) then I'm sure that they will be fine with it. If they aren't, go to a different club. I've been wanting to get back into martial arts too. I was a black belt in tae kwon do. But I am looking for a different martial art, and I wont go until my body has been masculinized by T.
oh. Then I'm not sure. T would have been a great argument... You could try to talk to the trainer (or whomever is in charge) about it. Remember to say you will take T sometime. It might help.
@ LilRingo - I live like an hour outside Toronto so who knows. Its just so convenient to go to this club because its close to my house lol. I think once I get my name officially changed I'll go and see what happens.
It sucks not being on t I feel like its holding me back. It seems to be holding you back too.
@ Sparrowhawke- Ya t really would've been a great argument I cant wait to get on t. I guess talking to the senseis is my best bet
Any way you can just find a different club and go as male? You dont have to tell them, especially if you wait till you start T. I joined a kickboxing club when I was abotu 6 months on T, I never told anyone, it was all fine, I was accepted and seen as a regular guy, just very young looking :p .
