GEORGE TOWN (Nov 5, 2012): A backbencher has called on the state government to set up a committee to oversee the welfare of transgenders in the state.
Teh Yee Cheu (DAP-Tanjung Bungah) said an open-minded government should consider establishing such a committee to ensure trangenders' needs and rights are taken care of.
He added that there is a need to study and collect data on the group to ensure that they get proper attention.
"I have once been told that these Mak Nyeh and Pak Nyeh (transgenders) are not humans".
