James Spencer
A transgender teen initially banned from using the boys washroom at his Toronto-area high school has been told he can now use it freely.
James Spencer, 16, was told Wednesday he could access the boys washroom at Clarke High School in Durham region following a meeting with school officials.
Wednesday's decision also comes after classmates threw their support behind Spencer earlier in November.
Following a school request, Spencer launched a petition to find out how many of his schoolmates would be OK with a transgender student using the washroom they identify with. In just a few days, over 200 students signed the petition.
This gives me joy.
This is great! There is hope for the future after all.

Grassroots - good for them, not letting the 'informed adults' make their decisions for them.
Victory! :D *happy dance*
Toronto for the WIN!!! : D
I -and others- have notice that the X, Y, and millennium generations are much more tolerant than the baby boomers and preceding generations.
Once they are informed and the novelty of a "different" persons around them wears out, they go about their business without any reservations.
My personal case: I have a bunch of teens in HS. When I first started the RLE, they got teased, and I was the source of giggles and looks when I have to be in the HS for whatever reason. Fast forward two years, and no kid gives me a second look.
This is beautiful.
This is good, real good! A lot of the kids are recognizing that gender variation is not a bad thing.
