Blood tests. Once they have a baseline, then they may prescribe HRT. If the doctor has had trans patients before they might give you the script first visit.

If anything, you should expect a few questions about yourself, where you feel you are going, and no doubt a few medical questions about yourself.
Nothing to worry about. No where near as grueking as a therapist or Psych. A good Endo is the least of your problems.
Although he will start you off on low dosages in the beginning to gauge how your body will react, ask him if he can do Oeastrogen and progesterone implants. By far the safest and most efficient method of delivery.

I've had my letter for a couple of months now; but the Doctor I chose is apparently very busy so my first appointment is in a couple of weeks and I came here tonight with the same question as the OP. I also thank you ladies for your responses. :)

Hey! I would like some info on this also! My gf is scheduled at the end of January to go to the endo cus apparently he is very busy also... the receptionist said he's the only doctor in VA that works with trans patients ??? At least he is close by!! But yeah, I wanted to know if it would be acceptable for me to maybe accompany my gf (she would be cool with it) for moral support or something and I also want to know what we can expect. I saw ms. obrian said they may give the script on the first visit if they've had trans patients before... I hope this is true because we are both soooo excited!
Muffinpants : Obviously I don't know your endo, but I went with my wife to the first 2 appointments because I'm better at remembering detailed stuff and she was too excited to pay attention. :) Nobody batted an eye. (I'm going to go with her to her first gyn appointment soon, too, and the nurse on the phone actually *encouraged* me to!) Her endo did a fairly quick intake exam of the sort mentioned here - does she know why she's there and the side effects/intended effects of HRT - and then ordered bloodwork. As soon as that came back and she'd interpreted the results, she sent a prescription to the pharmacy. So it wasn't exactly at the first appointment, but there was no "second" appointment needed to get the prescription, if that makes sense.
(The 2nd appointment was in three months; the endo's policy is a recheck every three months until a year has gone by with normal bloodwork every time, then every six months ditto, then yearly. Although I think it changes back to the every 3 months for a year schedule post-op just to be on the safe side.)

Yup! pretty much what all the girls here said. It was pretty smooth! I am now on hormones since January 1st! yay! I hope I get great results!
give it time, Hormones can be a bit of trial and error for the first 6 months(it was with me for the first 9 months)
My endo is such a nice guy ^.^ I am glad I am seeing him. I actually hugged him when I left his office last because I was feeling so happy.
