The Administrative Court of Appeals in Stockholm, Sweden announced today, December 19th 2012 that the requirement in the Swedish Law on Legal Gender Recognition that a person wishing to change gender marker must undergo sterilization indeed violates the Swedish Constitution (Regeringsformen 2 kap 6 ยง) as well as the articles 8 and 14 of the European Convention of Human Rights.
According to the Administrative Court of Appeals, this requirement must thus be removed and no longer be practiced when someone applies for a change of gender marker. This is also proposed by the Swedish Government in a revision of the law of 1972 on Legal Gender Recognition, effective July 1st 2013.
Aside from the blatant bias of a proposed law such as that, and its degrading nature, doesn't a person(FtM/MtF) end up sterilizing themselves in the process of transition regardless? Or is this more of a.... "If your diagnosed transgender, regardless of your intent to transition, you must be sterilized to "stop" further incidence of trans in the population? ::)

Not at all. Many, many transgender people are non-op and many don't even take hrt. With so many people posting about their SRS and HRT victories, it's really easy to forget. Transition means living as your true gender. It doesn't necessarily mean changing your body, right?
