I've always been kind of full of myself, but always overplayed it in a humorous way to kind of cover up things I was self conscious about. I'm still pretty self conscious and I am always surprised when I find out people are attracted to me, but since being on T I've become increasingly obsessive about my body (which I'm sure is normal) and more conceited (at times) than usual. I kind of use these forums to "show off" so I have a outlet to express my prideful moments when it's just not appropriate in the general public.
I suppose I'm just asking, does anybody else feel like their hormones are making them more and more conceited, and how do you keep it all in check? Maybe this is just because I'm big into weight lifting or something, but it's really hard to contain my excitement for my changes without just looking like I'm bragging to most people. For instance, I just got my max bench to my body weight (180) and I'm stoked, but like...it's not impressive enough for a guy to brag about that to other dudes and everyone else is just like, "yeah okay, good for you."
I look forward to your comments.
cheers.
Yeah, okay, good for you. :P
I'm impressed. I have permanent repetitive injuries and can't lift weights at all. I'm not even supposed to carry groceries with my right hand.
I don't think I'm conceited, but I'm certainly more self-assured, and I'm much more forceful about my opinions when I'm talking to people IRL.
I second the "yeah, ok, good for you", lol.
I understand feeling good about yourself and how your life is changing for the better but one has to be careful not to cross over into complete douche baggery. However, I think many trans people get narcissistic when they first start to pass. It's expressing the pleasure of others finally seeing you the way you see yourself. It dies down with most after awhile though. Either because they get over themselves or they calm it down because they notice how annoyed people around them get with it.
Me? I've passed for years but just officially started T two weeks ago. I can't wait to heal from my hysto so I can start lifting but if I ever get big head syndrome and start posting pictures of myself flexing online (for no other reason except "look at me") I hope at least one of you will have the balls to take me down a notch or two, lol.

I will. At least until I get an orchi. :P
Anyway, I think that trans people do get conceited when they pass more. Just don't let confidence become callousness. ::)
Just to repeat the sentiment. "Yeah okay, good for you."
Good job on benching 180. :)
*Puts on drill sergeant hat* --> Now tell me when you can squat and deadlift 2.5x your weight AND do a handstand pushup, maggot!
Sorry, I know that was mean, but it just shows my point of how uncool it is to brag. :)
I am not on T so I haven't had that experience, but I think it's normal. I've heard other transguy reflect later on in their transition about how they were conceited or really obsessive about their looks when they first started T. I think it's just excitment over their bodies finally coming in line with what they knew it should have been all along.
And yay for reaching 180! I probably can't even bench 50.
yes, im always quick to point out my strengths to others because im constantly pointing out my flaws to myself. there are good and bad parts of me and transitioning is making more and more good parts of me. i tend to feel the need to tell everyone about them. like im 5'10" and wear a mens 9.5 size shoe.
Re: Transitioning making you conceited?Actually the opposite for me. I was a good deal more confident before transition. I do feel much more comfortable physically however.

Again the opposite. I'm much more self-conscious and worried about hurting people's feelings than I ever was as a 'girl'. In some ways it's a good thing I guess but not in others. I drink to try to 'just be myself' again.

My form is improving ;)
Nothing wrong with being proud. You're right, there is a very limited audience that will be impressed by a 180 bench press. (mostly people who aren't dedicated to lifting) So if you enjoy the accolades of others, find it where you can. If youre ever interested in constructive criticism, go to bodybuilding.com and talk about your 180 bench press. I promise those bros will keep you in check. I think the pride comes from making such huge strides compared to not taking testosterone.
Any ways, to answer your question, I was the same way when I first started testosterone, I thought I was so big and I was proud of myself. Then I started hanging around people who actually knew about lifting. So I think its normal to be proud of yourself even if most people think it's nothing. I think is especially true for weightlifting / bodybuilding achievements. They come so quickly when you start testosterone.
If you want me to knock you down a few pegs, I can post my pictures and tell you how much I bench. ;)

I wanna see a pic Mr. Norris. How much do you bench?
I had a time after starting T where I felt really good, had my voice low enough to pass in spite of a bit of sissiness, and was finally getting looked at by gay guys. My body was newly awesome and I wanted to talk about it all the time. I was starting to be a more functional human being too and that was exhilarating. Even after just admitting I was a guy I gained a lot of confidence though. I don't think I've felt exactly what you struggle with.
Part of it might really wrapped up in lifting weights though. I've a lot of injuries but I do pushups and situps and lift small weights, and the results are always satisfying. When I exercise a lot I get more revved up and high on myself.

I hear ya. I'm well aware my "achievements" don't stack up worth nothing compared to cisguys. It's just seeing that progress that I've been waiting for so long to see that makes me feel a bit full of myself at times. Oddly I think, in terms of lifting, once I get into a more "cismale" range and more average, I won't give any of it a second thought.
And, post the pics bro!
Here are a few shots. still have a looooong way to go until I reach my goals, but good progress for me. Knowing that I am no where near my goals is what keeps me going.
I started off benching 70lbs and weighing a whopping 145 pounds. It's when I was that size that I thought I was so big. LOL. Ignorance was bliss.
Excuse the sloppy edits ( I am stealth so i had to take a few measure )
And my 1 RM for bench is 240.

Connor, I'll take your word for it. Before I started running outside I used to go to the gym different times/days of week. There were always the same two guys there no matter what time/day I went....llifting, lifting, lifting.....I'm inclined to believe you because for as much as they lifted, they really didn't seem all that huge to me compared to how much time they seemed to be there! As long as you feel good about yourself :)

I see meat heads like that all the time at the gym lol. I go on post so most soldiers have to do pt in the AM which is usually a 3-4 mile run and some calisthenics, then they go to the gym in the afternoon and spend 4 hours there and they get nowhere. I go everyday and work different groups and I spend at max 2 hours that's with a workout, ab session and a run on a treadmill (it's cold outside haha)
I don't think I could ever really feel full of myself until all of my surgeries are complete. I constantly feel like I have something to hide and be ashamed of right now.

I'm not on T and i do pass sometimes, but not all the time. I know exactly what it feels like to think you're biologically 100% wrong. I know what it feels like to think you're biologically a mistake and want nothing more than to just be a cis male. Trust me, I feel it everyday.

Ah that was from the summer. I am now "bulking" so my abs are much less defined, but my muscles are bigger.
When i was cutting (trying to lose fat) I ran for about 45 minutes in the morning and went on a very low calorie diet. I cant say it was safe, but I basically ate chicken breasts and salad every day.
Testosterone is also a huge help of course.

I'm thinking it's the lack of T that is holding you back as far as not getting the workout results you're after (not that I'm advocating taking T, just saying). I know a lot of guys have said their results were so much faster on T...after all it is going on steroids. Not to the levels that an abuser would use but for someone FAAB it is a "shock" to the system.

That's probably the problem I'm guessing. Unfortunately, I won't be blue to take T for a couple years, military doesn't let you take that type of stuff :(
I usually run for about 45 mins sometimes more sometimes less and I have no idea how many calories I'm consuming, I need to try counting one day. My guess is 1000-1600 a day.

He should also be calculating how much protein he is getting to maintain muscle. The carb values can vary for people who are cutting vs people who are going on a bulk. However, for someone who trying to lose weight, I'd probably consume less carbs because they are the quickest metabolizing form of energy.

Yeah, I agree with this. You can still build muscle while losing weight, just have to make sure to up your protein and keep carbs/sugars and bad fats down. It's always best to get your proteins from natural foods but I eat these bars occasionally after doing weights:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/detour/detour-low-sugar-bars.html (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/detour/detour-low-sugar-bars.html)
They taste pretty damn good for a protein bar, are filling, have 30g of protein and most importantly low sugar/carb. The only downside is that they use sugar alcohols for the sweetness which, though, significantly lowers the amount of metabolized sugar, the alcohols give some people stomachaches. I've never had an issue with that but I've heard it from others.
