So finasteride blocks DHT, which I think comes from testosterone. If anti-androgens block testosterone, why would one want to take finasteride for hair regrowth? I want to have as thick hair as possible, but medication is expensive as it is and I'm already saving up for surgery.
My doctor got me on both Spiro and finasteride: after 3-1/2 months there is most definite regrowth and increased thickness.
Finasteride will stop whatever little T the anti-androgens are missing from damaging your hair.
Good luck,
Andrea
Yes Spiro will block your T, however it won't stop all of it and DHT is much stronger than the base testosterone that it is converted from. The fin basically binds where the DHT normally would and thus breaks the strangle hold on your hair. I was on E and Spiro for several months however I wasn't seeing the improvement I was looking for in my hairline, after talking with my doctor we decided to give fin a try, now three months in after adding it and I'm starting to shed hairs like crazy, which is a sign it's kicking in and I'm seeing regrowth in my temple area. Now I'm not sure where you are, however in the USA generic fin is $9 at target for a month's supply.
@pennygurl
I am glad I am not the only one who sees amazing results with finasteride coupled to E and spironolactone
Is your hair getting thicker where or was thinning and regrowing where there was none, as well?
Andrea

Actually it prevents the creation of DHT by blocking the enzyme that converts T to DHT.
Which has some side effects as that enzyme does a few other things too.
Not stopping me use it though, I have only used it for a month so far. :)
@NotThereYet. Yes, I have had some regrowth where it was thining and also it has recently begun to regrow where I had lost some, however I'm only three months in so it's not very noticeable, but it is there.
@seras, thnx for the edit, you are right it blocks the conversion of testosterone to DHT
