Title: John Schneider, one of the good Christians
Post by: Shawn Sunshine on January 11, 2013, 10:31:56 PM
One of my favorite actors is none other than Bo Duke aka Jonathan Kent aka John Schneider himself. He became a Christian after spending some time with Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash. Take a look at what he said in a interview:

QuoteTHR: Is there anti-Christian bigotry in Hollywood?

Schneider: Sure, there's Christian bigotry. There's also Democrat bigotry, Republican bigotry, straight bigotry and homosexual bigotry. There's a lot of people here.

QuoteTHR: Are you pro life?
Schneider: I am until somebody offers up an argument that filters through my current belief system and changes my mind. My mind has been changed on many things. Not on that, but I don't believe in forcing my beliefs on someone else.

THR: Is it tough being pro-life in Hollywood?

Schneider: If it's tough believing what you believe, then maybe it's time to move. But if you are someone who militantly enforces your opinion about anything, then you need to get out of town.

THR: Who are the militant people doing that?

Schneider: They're the ones throwing red paint at people's fur, or bombing abortion clinics, or calling pro-life people ignorant. They're people threatening those who don't support gay marriage, or threatening those who do support it. I can't imagine somebody feeling that their relationship with their creator – whoever he or she may be – is so solid that they have time to get into my ->-bleeped-<- about my belief system.

You may not agree with what he believes, but from what I can see he is one of the good ones.

I would agree with you. It is a good Christian who believes there is a problem when you get in "someone else's ->-bleeped-<-." I wish more Christians believed this, instead of feeling entitled to do just the opposite.

Speaking from experience, most of us just don't want others' opinions shoved in our faces.
Ex. on the subject of gay marriage - it's only a few short steps from "Ok, gays can marry" to "I don't care what your beliefs are, Pastor - if you don't marry us we're suing you for discrimination." (See also: Canada, UK, that one florist)

Honestly, both sides need to stop in the middle - sure, gays can marry, but everybody gets a conscience exemption on anything that directly interacts with said marriage. If the pendulum swings all the way over, it's not so much "adding freedoms" as it is "exchanging one group's freedoms for another's." Which is what a lot of Christians see happening, hence the opposition.
