Title: Facial hair falling out .. ?? !! :meh:
Post by: Alainaluvsu on January 13, 2013, 03:49:16 AM
I've had 6 sessions of laser on my black hair / fairly white skin. It didn't remove it all but in the end it made it to where I can dry shave daily and cover it with concealer. Obviously I want it gone gone, but atm my money is a bit funny.

Anyways, I've been tweezing all of my hair below my lips and above my jaw. They aren't getting much less dense (but the texture of them seem to be changing), but for some reason, the hair above my lip is! It's quite obvious that the hair above my lip is disappearing.. even the corners of my mouth has more density! The loss has been recent... I really only started noticing it last week and I finished laser back in October.

Is this a common occurance? I'm thinking it's due to atrophy in the orbicularis muscle (upper lip muscle). Am I just imagining things?

Could it be a combination of the time you're on HRT and laser...? it could also be a combination of other factors...

Whatever it is I am happy that you seeing improvement there :)

I wish that mine was falling out. But I have noticed that they grow alot slower.

I hate them, they seem to withstand the laser somehow because they always come back :-\

Hi, Alaina

I've been plucking my facial hair for about two years now- the removal method I chose for the same reason as you did- and I have noticed the upper lip hair to become both sparse and more rare over time, rather than my chin hair did. Though, I think it had more to do with the fact that my upper-lip hair was never as strong as my chin hair (and less dense for that sake)- than the actual benefit of that particular hair removal method (plucking).
If your case of facial hair (having been always less dense on the lip) was the same as mine, I'd attribute that to your upper-lip folicles having become weakened by all the laser sessions and reacting faster to the treatment each consecutive removal than the chin hair does...
It might be one of your latter sessions - in which case Congrats!  :D

Just my two cents.
Hope I made sense. :)

I've been told by my electroligist NOT to pluck as it will cause hairs to become distorted which will make them harder to permanently removed with electrolysis later.

Most likely after effects of the laser treatment. It can take a while for hairs that were zapped to surface and fall out. Usually the skin right around the follicle opening is really dry, making almost like a small white circle around the shaft of the hair.

This is very true. It will also lead to more in-grown hairs that will need to be tweezed out, and then you need to wait for them to re-grow properly so they can be permanently removed. Tweezing cause more often than not cause more problems. Small, white, pale vellus hairs are ok to tweeze and they are thin.
