Title: Facial Recognition software and gender
Post by: RachelH on January 22, 2013, 07:56:54 AM
Well I was reading an article about the increasing use of facial recognition software and in particular its use in determining gender to show targeted information.

http://www.familyhealthguide.co.uk/only-girls-allowed-outdoor-ad-using-facial-recognition-highlights-gender-inequalities.html (http://www.familyhealthguide.co.uk/only-girls-allowed-outdoor-ad-using-facial-recognition-highlights-gender-inequalities.html)

This got me wondering what I would register as, would it get my age and gender right, so I searched and found this site that had an online try option: http://face.eyedea.cz/ (http://face.eyedea.cz/)
I got determined as a 28 year old female :) , so I thought lets try one before I transitioned and HRT and got 28 year old female  ???

Just wondering if other people will get similar results, or whether I had a feminine face before... I think I did.

Just been checking with random male pictures from a google search, and some of them come up as female.... me thinks the program isn't that good!

I wouldn't invest in the software. It thinks I'm an 18 year old female...  I wish!!!

Interesting software, tried it with few pictures, but it seems that what matters most is the picture quality/lighting or something, as my results were not very consistent:

Picture 1: 43 year old male (NOOOO   :'()
Picture 2: 28 year old female (YES!!!  :D)
The above pictures were with the same make-up. Below with another make-up.
Picture 3: 48 year old female (DELETE WEB PAGE!  >:-))

They seem to like ages that end in 8.

In an auburn wig, they think I'm 28.

In a blonde wig, I'm 18.

I so wish that were true.

I don't think the program works whatsoever.

I upload Commander Adama from the Battlestar Galatica Re imagined series

first time around, the results was a 42 year old female. (He's a 67 year old man lol)

LOL, well at least it's good to know that I'm not that delusional about my face, that I do know that I look much younger than he does  ;D

The program doesn't know a thing...
