Many of my posts recently have been rather angry/miserable so to balance it out I thought i'd try to raise a smile.
We've all had epic fails in our gaming lives so I thought i'd try to drag a few out of retirement & share them.
Epic Fail 1: Trying to get a 1000 note streak in GH3, I tried for this achievement for many weeks/months, the only song that's long enough on easy is "through the fire & the flames" & it's really tricky.
I got to about 500 notes & got an itch on my nose, I held off until around a 700 note streak but couldn't ignore the itch any longer so when a gap in the constant stream of notes appeared I had a quick scratch, as my hand returned to the guitar I accidently knocked the strum bar & ruined my attempt, cue temper tantrum!!
My first move was to rip the disc out & hurl it across the room like a frisbee.
I ripped the battery cover off & took hold of the guitar by the neck (like a proper rock star), I then proceeded to bash the guitar on the back of the settee to get the batteries out, they wouldn't budge so I yanked one out & threw it at the wall & it rebounded into the back of my ex's head!!!
She gave me a filthy look & I swiped at the ashtray next to me, it flew across the room into the TV leaving a chip in the glass, the ashtray then dropped onto the open disc tray & snapped it off.
The end result was no achievment, a p****d off girlfriend & a broken XBOX.
I've got to dash to a doctors appointment now but will return with more tales of gaming stupidity
Epic Fail 2: Whilst trying to do a 20 song setlist on Rock Band Green Day, I started compiling the setlist from the easy songs & worked my way down the list, this meant that after playing for over an hour non-stop my last few songs were from the hardest on the game.
With only 2 full songs to go I failed with 30 seconds to go on song 17!! The language would have made a sailor blush
Oops moment: Whilst playing on GTA's free roam a friend offered my ex a lift in his fire engine, he was having great fun until she asked how to throw a grenade, I told her what button to press but forgot to tell her about cooking the grenade, she held the button for too long & blew herself, my friend & the fire engine up!!
My mate was gutted that his shiny new fire engine was broken, mwhahaha!!

That's epic! I once broke an N64 controller in my bare hands and gave a wail of Hulk-like ferocity because my brother was constantly sneaking a look at my screen on Goldeneye multiplayer! The little <bleep> always used to do that!
x
I lost my temper after getting beaten at Street Fighter 2 on the Mega Drive, I lost my rag & kicked the console as hard as I could putting it through a plasterboard wall, I could barely walk for a week!!
Another epic fail on Street Fighter was when a friend boasted he could beat me with his feet, I took the bet & he removed his shoes & socks, laid the pad on the floor & kicked my ass!! I swear to this day that it was the smell of his feet that gave him the victory :icon_dizzy:

Lmao gotta love that sweet sweet karma! My brother broke his toe after kicking his car because he had caught his finger in the door!
Inanimate objects have this remarkable ability to annoy us! :P

I can so empathise with this although I have the PS2 version of GH3.
But every damn time when you start a song, some place starts to itch and then you just wait for the perfect moment - a long gap or a long note - to scratch it away.
But that reminds me of a fail moment in GH3 of my own... All blame goes on my Mom.
Since I'm a crappy player in Guitar Heroes, I play on medium and some songs are total killers. Well, I was playing Metallica's "One" on the said difficulty and certain parts require quite a lot of concentration. I had a nice streak going on, no missed notes. In comes my Mom and asks what's the song about
(because I've been translating Metallica's songs into Finnish and figuring out possible meanings behind them and she knows this). I failed the next note instantly. I proceeded to give my Mom a death glare and she knew right away she shouldn't have done that... XD
I could share a really epic FAIL from my fiancé, if that's not completely wrong. I find it quite hilarious. ;D
She was playing Silent Hill 3, both fight and puzzle levels on easy. She was pretty much in the beginning, at the subway station and had gotten into the train and was waltzing around in the last car. For some reason, she decided to open the door leading to the back of the last train and you can just guess what happens when you jump off from a moving train... Splat.
At that point, she had died so many times the game actually spat out a text screen saying "omg you're so bad at this that we'll give you even easier difficulty than EASY k" in a more polite way.
I laugh my buttocks off, she's basically hitting her head with the controller.
Mine are more along the lines of forgetting to eat while fighting arch-liches (and the reams of random baddies they have a bad habit of summoning), only noticing when I faint from lack of food and lose half my health in a single turn.
Fortunately I have low enough AC that I can basically shrug off a horde of dragons, mammoths, and dingoes while I sleep.
</nethack>
Tossu-sama, sometimes when i'm playing GH or RB on hard difficulty I find myself concentrating so hard I forget to breath, one day i'll pass out whilst playing.
The silent hill fail brought to mind 2 long forgotten oops/fail moments playing Resident Evil, the first time a giant spider ran at me I turned & ran for the nearest door, it took ages to go & face the spider as I suffer from Arachnophobia, I had to tell myself over & over again that "It's only a game"
Another was when I was passing through the police station in Resi 2, i'd cleared the zombies out but forgot that if you ran too close to a certain window the zombies would reach through & grab you, I didn't just jump a little, I left the seat completely & my joypad landed in my mates lap.
Whilst playing Dead Space a friend dared me to play it with the lights out & my 5.1 turtles beaches on, I was running away from an invincible creature that wouldn't die when my jet black lab stuck his nose in my face, he scared me half to death & I almost beat him to death with my joypad (slight exaggeration). What isn't exaggerated is the fact that it took over a week before I had the courage to return to the game
OMG!! I had possibly my biggest ever fail/oops moment EVER yesterday!!
I'm still reeling from the shock of this one so please forgive me if I break down in tears.
If you've seen other post by me in the gaming section you'll notice that I LOVE Dragon's Dogma, I couldn't begin to count the amount of times i've played it in search of the rarer & prettier clothes.
Yesterday I finished the game for the millionth time & instantly started a new game, somehow I messed up & failed to load my save, before I knew something was wrong the game had over written my save!!!
My character level went from 116 to 0!!
I found later that I did a save on cloud last year so am back to level 50 but i've lost my white mini skirt & the to die for boots that went with it :'(

Losing a save by accident is one of the worst feelings in gaming =P

Worst fail I've ever done was probably back in the original Day of Defeat retail. We just started a clan match. In the original DoD, if you wanted to cook a grenade, you had to throw it on the ground and pick it back up after primed. Just so happened that this time, when I threw it on the ground, I couldn't find where it went to pick it back up and ended up killing most of my own team at the beginning of a league match =P Thankfully the other clan agreed to restart so I guess it did work out in the end =)
I couldn't guess how many times i've over cooked grenades or miss judged my aim & had the grenade bounce back at my face.
A few times on Battlefield Bad Company I've pressed the wrong button & jumped out of a chopper leaving my mates to die in the following crash, they learnt (eventually) that if I was flying & suddenly exclaimed "Bugger" or something worse then it was time to switch seats as no-one was flying the chopper.
I remember spending over an hour trying to find a very obvious door in the train graveyard of FF7 when I was younger.
I broke a controller playing God of War, not the main game, the trials. Those were damn hard.
I love the way other peoples fails keep reminding me of long forgotten gaming moments & sourcandy has just reminded me of another one.
whilst playing Portal I had to re-wire my brain for the mind bending puzzles so when I escaped from the test chambers I spent a couple of hours trying to figure out why I couldn't find the way out of the current puzzle, when I figured it out I felt so stupid words nearly failed me, i'd been so fixated on trying to figure out where I needed to put portals that I didn't realise that the way out was to open the door infront of me, I kid you not people I got stuck because it didn't cross my portal ravaged mind that the way out was a simple door. . . . duh
Whilst posting on another game topic I mentioned a game & it triggered a memory of a friends epic fail.
The game is Avatar: the burning legend of ang, it is possible to get the full 1000 gamerpoints within 30 - 60 seconds of the opening cutscene finishing, all you have to do is press the B button rapidly as soon as you get control of the character, as a training session throws endless easy enemies at you until you've done the moves it tells you.
Pressing the B button rapidly will get you a combo chain high enough to get the full score & is so easy it's a joke (search you tube & you'll see).
That's the background & here's the fail, A friend popped round a asked if he could log into his account to get the gamerpoints, after a few minutes of pressing the B button as fast as he could he hadn't gotten the first & easiest award!! He handed the pad to me in disgust & asked me to do it, I have no idea how I kept a straight face ::)
This friend spends most of his time thinking everyone online is lagging or cheating because they beat him, I think we have the answer to his repeated online defeats. . . . .he's not very good at games.
I had a bit of an oops moment on Far Cry 3 last night.
My skin's been playing up the last few days, it dries up so much it need creams applied every 10 - 15 minutes so i'd gone without sleep for a couple of days to keep up with the treatment (sleeping for several hours gives it too much time to dry up).
I was very, very tired & kept losing concentration, whilst driving along a winding road I started to nod off at the (virtual) wheel, i was woken suddenly by the pad rumbling as I crashed through a fence & plunged my jeep into a river, I scrambled out of the sunken jeep straight into the jaws of a ravenous croc!!!
in my half asleep state I fumbled for the right button but before I could find the right button I became a tasty meal for this toothy predator, I hate crocodiles!!
The lesson here is valuable in both games & real life, never drive when tired
