Title: favorite gaming console/games
Post by: lawliver on February 14, 2013, 07:41:18 AM
What are some of your favorite games? Why is it your favorite? What is your favorite consol of all time? Why?

I personally love my xbox. My favorite game is spyro for the PS1. I also really enjoyed runescape before the updated it so much that its a crap game. I like fantasy games that involve magic, and sorcery, and mythical things.

I like my Xbox too! Some of the games are just awesome! But I used to have a SNES and they make me all warm and fuzzy inside! Nostalgia FTW!

I can't pick just one console, I have fond memories of them all.

As for games, a few that still float my boat in spite of being long in the tooth are:

Mega Drive - Flashback, Alien 3, the Desert Strike series, Road Rash.

SNES - Starwing, Super Mario Kart

Gamecube - Pikmin 1 & 2, Star Wars Rogue Squadron, Luigi's Mansion

PS1 - FFVII, Colony Wars, G-Police, Populous, Worms

PS2 - DMC, Dropship, Prisoner of War

PS3 - Uncharted, Motorstorm

XBOX - Halo games, Gears of War games, the Mass Effect trilogy.

If rumors about future machines being download only or having codes on discs to lock a game to a console then i'll have to work hard to replace my old consoles & games before second hand game shops go the way of the dinosaurs

Oh man, I feel you! They have a lot of old classic games in the xbox live marketplace. I'm sure.that's how games will be in the future. I like have the round thing you put in a disk tray. at the same time I don't because ive laser burned too many of my games.

I've got around 30 XBLA games, some are classic games such as Battlezone, Speedball 2 & Doom. Other games are remakes of classics such as Afterburner, TMNT & Commando WOTB.
I've also got new XBLA games such as the sublime From Dust & the amazing Shadow Complex.

I've also got some right duffer games such as War of the Worlds & Battlestar Gallactica (both a waste of a good licence)

I'm a big sports fan so my gaming reflects that.  My favorites are the Forza Motorsports series, Madden football. NHL hockey.

I am a huge forza fan! i'm still working on getting all the achievements for forza horizon. I liked madden 13 a little bit, but in general i'm not big on football games.

At first Iliked Horizon, but as I went through it I found it got boring. The map was to small, the cycle of day to night was to quick. The graphics were amazing, but the game play to me was missing something.  So I'm back into Forza 4 doing rivals.

X Box nah, never wanted the machine that always breaks.

PS anything, well I got a PS3 to be a media device actually. I bought Dragon Age for it, but I have yet to really play it.

I have a PSP Go, but I consider it an mp3 player.

I have a Nintendo DS, started off with the Lite, moved to the XL, not in a hurry to get the 3DS XL yet.
I bought it for Panzer Tactics. I have a few military games, Commander Europe at War is a genuine wargame. Steel Horizon is a great naval wargame. Advance Wars and Age of Empires are also great.

And of course because even a moron can download Nintendo DS games, basically I have had access to about 3000 titles over the years. But the thing is, so many Nintendo DS games are junk that never should have happened.

It's not that I don't like shooters, but I have a unique eye sight situation. I can't see depth, and I have an absolute hell of a time tracking motion. Watching video game like actiony games is nearly impossible for me.

I'm a Forza girl too, though my fondness seems to be waining.

I'm still fond of most of the Tekken games on the Playstations.

PC gaming has to be Rise of the Triad, Tribes, Tribes 2 and StarCraft.

Sega Master System Wonderboy in Monster Land came to mind first but how could I forget Phantasy Star!

NES the game I wanted to play most was Super Dodge Ball

Genesis Streets of Rage 2 and ToeJam and Earl.  Honorable Mention: Sonic CD

SNES I loved Super Mario World, Pilotwings, Starfox.

TurboGrafx-16: R-Type was pretty true to the arcade and hard.  The Bonk's as I recall were ok.

Playstation 1 has gotta be Twisted Metal 2

Playstation 2 How can I not give a nod to Katamari Damacy?  ♪ Na Nanaaaa na na na na na nuh nut na!♫  Honorable Mention: The Densha de GO! series.

I play my Tekken on PS3 so I think that covers it and Forza is on XBox.

Wii The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess.

♪ Na Nanaaaa na na na na na nuh nut na!♫ Dang! Ear worm get me every time!

Dreamcast is still one of my favourite consoles with Shenmue being one of my favourite games. I make it a point to play it every Christmas. Really wish they would finish the story or remake it in one whole new game. The technology is there =)

These days I play almost exclusively on PC. Playing a lot of X-Com Enemy Unknown and Fallout New Vegas lately =)

I forgot about the Dreamcast!  But then, for some reason, I always got physically sick playing that console.  It makes no sense, heck I grew up on Sega.

Nowadays I just play the games on an emulator or their re released titles on steam.

Shenmue is the only one I have to emulate really. Sonic Adventure 1&2 and Jet Set Radio is on steam and Phantasy Star Online is free on PC through the schthack private server. All I need now is Shenmue 1&2 released on steam and I'm set =P

My favorite console of all-time has to be the Nintendo 64. I loved that thing. I used to play Donkey Kong 64 and Super Mario 64 for hours.
Favorite game is gonna have to go to Fallout 3 (or any Bethesda RPG, but I really love Fallout).
Not even gonna lie, when I was a kid I really really loved Pokemon. So that has to go here.

OK I must be old school.... My favorite console of all time is the Atari 2600.... Something about games that never end and really have no plot that does it for me. If I have to pick  more modern console I love my PS3. As for games, I'm a big Final Fantasy fangirl, If its Final Fantasy I probably played it, lol Also love the Fallout series, Pokemon Games, and any game made by Chris Roberts!

I loved Flashback!

I still have my copy but my mega drive was still at my ex's, after the argument today we'll not have a civilized word for each other for quite a long time so I think i'm going to have to buy a new (old) one.

Here's a few really old games that still stand the test of time in my eyes.

Pong - classic

Lotus turbo esprit - it was on the C64 if my memory is correct (certainly that era), it gave you 4 3D cities to drive in, you had a good score for when you killed the 4 or 5 enemy vehicles in the city, you also had a bad score for if you shot innocent cars or killed pedestrians. It was decades ahead of its time, the true inspiration for GTA style games.
I played it last year on an emulator & it is still fun although I can't play it for hours as GTA, Just Cause 1 & 2 etc have given me so much more to do

Manic Miner - say no more

Right now I use my Xbox, Wii and PC for gaming, but no matter how awesome game quality gets, I will forever be in love with my super Nintendo and more specifically Super Mario world and street fighter II!

I play COD Black Ops 2 on Xbox 360 and think it has the best multiplayer of any of the new games. I had Halo and thought that was the best, but decided to try COD and can see why people love it.

Love sports games and had NBA for awhile. Liked it, but I sucked at it, LOL. Should pick up FIFA or something.

I've been a gamer since the 1970s. Like Christina, I also had an Atari 2600 - it was the highlight of my early childhood. :)

I've played all sorts of games in the past 30+ years, but I prefer games that involve a bit of puzzle-solving as well as the usual hack-n-slash stuff. I get bored if I'm just running around shooting things or driving vehicles.

So... my all-time favourite game has got to be Monkey Island 3; the best of the Monkey Island series, in my opinion. It was well animated, had fiendish puzzles, and of course it featured the song "A Pirate I Was Meant to Be", which had me in stitches at the time.

Currently I seem to play mostly on my XBox, but I also have Wii, PS3, PS2, PSP and various iOS devices. I tend to juggle between the XBox (when I can get some time to use the telly) and my iPad (when the family's using the telly).

I'm currently replaying (for the umpteenth time) Fable II on XBox 360. It's my favourite of the Fable series, even if it does have a very triggering mission towards the end (where you stumble into a room containing a potion that can permanently change the gender of your character). Despite that trigger, Fable I-III were pretty great in their treatment of LGBT issues. Fable IV was a disappointment for various reasons, not least because of the godawful tracking abilities of the Kinect.

You can pretty much guarantee that I'll buy any new Prince of Persia, Fable, or Assassin's Creed game that comes out. In fact, I upgraded my PC every time a new Prince of Persia was released, right up until I started playing PoP on my consoles. ;)

My favorite game console would have to be the SNES, but the NES, which is where I started, is not far behind. I'm also really fond of the PlayStation 1, which I consider to be the rightful successor to the SNES, the Sega Genesis, which really gave the SNES a run for its money, and the Sega Dreamcast, which was criminally underrated and got more good games in a shorter period of time than any other console I've ever seen.
My favorite handheld is the PSP, which I didn't expect I would like, but completely blew me away. As much as I love the original GameBoy's library, I'll take my GBA SP any day. I'd also like to say that the Neo Geo Pocket Color and the Atari Lynx are both really good machines that were largely ignored.

My favorite game is a toss up between Secret of Mana for the SNES and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the PS1. Other games I really like include Centipede, Thunder Force V, the original Legend of Zelda, Breath of Fire, Quake II, Seiken Densetsu 3, Mushihimesama Futari, anything by Yasumi Matsuno, etc.

Favorites by console (tip of the iceberg):
Atari 2600: Demons to Diamonds, Turmoil, Galaxian
Jaguar: Tempest 2000

Colecovision: Frenzy, Pepper II, Mr. Do

NES: Legend of Zelda, Mega Man 3, Zelda II, Contra, Adventure Island II, Tiger Heli, SMB, Faxanadu, too many to name...
SNES: Secret of Mana, Super Metroid, Tetris Attack, Breath of Fire, Mega Man X, Super Mario World, R-Type III, moar
N64: Beetle Adventure Racing, Robotron 64, Super Smash Bros.
Gamecube: F-Zero GX, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Viewtiful Joe, Wind Waker, Phantasy Star Online, Metroid Prime

Master System: Golvelius, Power Strike, Phantasy Star
Genesis: Toejam & Earl, Thunder Force III, LandStalker, Shinobi III, Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage 2, Fire Shark
Sega CD: Lords of Thunder, Popful Mail, Final Fight CD
32X: Kolibri
Saturn: Thunder Force V, Shining the Holy Ark, Shienryu, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Necronomicon, Galactic Attack
Dreamcast: Bangai-O, King of Fighters: Dream Match 1999, ChuChu Rocket, Skies of Arcadia, SoulCalibur

PlayStation: Castlevania: SoTN, Final Fantasy IX, SoulBlade, Wipe'Out", Vagrant Story, Spyro the Dragon, Einhänder, etc.
PlayStation 2: Culdcept, R-Type Final, Dragon Quest VIII, Metal Slug Anthology, Atelier Iris, Ōkami
PlayStation 3: 3D Dot Game Heroes, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Mortal Kombat, Outland

Xbox: Halo, Morrowind, PGR2
Xbox 360: Raiden Fighters Aces, Mushihimesama Futari, PGR4, Borderlands, Dead Space, Oblivion, Pinball Hall of Fame

Lynx: Rygar
GameBoy: Centipede/Millipede
Game Gear: Sonic the Hedgehog
Neo Geo Pocket Color: Match of the Millenium
GameBoy Advance: Yggdra Union
PSP: Gradius Portable
DS: Etrian Odyssey

I think the point is I like video games.

I loved Castlevania for PSone. It was one of the first Playstation games I got, along with FFVII. That game along with Syphon Filter were some of my favorites.

If we're going back then my favorite game was Mortal Kombat and Mass Effect. I was like eight and my parents bought me Mortal Kombat for Sega Genesis. I was a Street Fighter junkie, but Mortal Kombat changed that.

My best experience on the Xbox 360 was Mass Effect. I will never forget going to the Citadel or getting promoted to Spectre. My friends said it was an awesome game and they weren't lying. I loved it so much that I finished most of the game in one playthrough.
