Title: Getting my first pair of women's frames
Post by: Clarity on February 14, 2013, 05:47:28 PM
I just got done setting up an eye exam and am thinking about asking for frames that would look good when I'm presenting as female. I'm not living full time as female yet so I think I'll be attending the appointment in male mode. I'm trying to figure out how to best approach asking for women's frames without it seeming too awkward. I don't know if the place I'm going is trans friendly or not.

Ive been wearing women's frames since before I could even admit to myself that I'm trans.  Its been years....

Whenever its time to pick frames, I just say "can you bring over some women's frames? I like the shapes better" or something like that. Never gotten any weird looks for it.

Good luck and have fun!

Excuses are a great solution. Find something with men's glasses that would make you want women's for something else than the looks.

Even if the excuse is bad (though the better the excuse, the easier it'll be), it'll do the job. They might not believe you or find you weird, but they won't tell or show you that. Besides, with hipster fashion and how some guys are really extravagant, you'll be fine.

I got my frames picked out, just waiting on them to be finished. I ended up telling the lady helping  me that I am trans. She was very understanding and helpful with the process. I should look fabulous once I start wearing my new glasses.

Next time I get glasses I want to fully present as a woman O-o so I can see how they look on my female frame x3

Just be up front about it. I use to be so embarrassed when looking at women's clothes, but it's only embarrassing because when you feel embarrassed you look awkward, if that means anything to you. When you are uncomfortable, others are uncomfortable.
