Well I have procrastinated on this quite awhile and finally got a new FB and email acct. My email acct kept saying my given name (I think because I had a google+ acct). I am keeping both as I am not out to everybody. It felt terrific. I esp, liked FB where it says stuff like "updated *his* profile".

That's fun. I remember when I did all that. I got credit cards in my male name also. Just ask for a card on an account you already have, tell them your male name as an "authorized user." The mail carrier gets used to delivering to your male name when you order stuff too! It's fun to get mail and things you've ordered in your guy name. ;D
Congrats, I was thinking of doing the same (though I don't have a FB account now even in my birth name).

Wow Andy, I didn't know you could do that with a credit card. They don't ask for a SSN or anything?
Hmm, let me see. I have 2. I think I applied for them right from the credit card's website. If I recall, one didn't ask for a SSN, and the other one did but I just left it blank. Never had any problem getting them or using them! ;D
Thanks Andy, I didn't know you could do this. FB is kind of interesting, I'm thinking do I want to be "friends" with x. If I didn't enjoy their feed as one name, I doubt I'll enjoy it as another.

I am pretty terrified of anything to do with facebook because I don't want anyone from my town I grew up in knowing about my transition. Better just to leave those people behind, but it sorta sucks because sometimes facebook could be useful for things. I could make a new account and not tell it my high school or college I suppose, so it doesn't suggest people, and also refrain from adding people that it might connect me to - seems like more hassle than it's worth though.
Maybe the privacy controls have evolved since I last had an active account though, and I am being paranoid for no reason. But, I'm also 3k miles away from my home state and it is really nice being isolated from all of it.
I actually think it is too hard to search for someone to find someone who has changed their name and likely their appearance. I am not just friending anybody. I am a bit paranoid on this as I was friends with my sister and a few of her friends, who I haven't told and that sort of thing. I also have some people who I know from dog training stuff. They don't actually know me.
FB hasn't changed any privacy stuff afaik. I don't intend on being entirely stealth, as I used to be an activist and as I have more time in a bit I'll be an activist again, but I am also not friending everybody.

It is cool you got a new email address. I still really like to see my new name at the top of the google login thing, and I changed my name almost a year ago.

I just opened a facebook in my male name, now I just have to figure out how to use the site since it has changed so much since the last time I had an account.... I feel like an old person. You guys can feel free to friend me if I ever figure this out. :D
