Title: Did you like Estrogen more than you thought you would?
Post by: Samantha L on February 18, 2013, 06:28:11 PM
Curious, I'm just beginning HRT (Yes, under a doctors care) and I am a bit on the scared side. Not of what it will do to me, but that I will love it too much. Has anyone gone on HRT with the idea of controlling GID, only to find they really really loved the changes – more than they thought?

I had my first female orgasm after a couple days on low dose E. Totally took me by surprise. An amazing feeling. You could definitely say that's a change I love, maybe a bit too much. ;D

Oh my God, YES!!!

The very first day that I was on estrogen was seriously the best day of my entire life. I don't know what it did to the pleasure-receptors in my head, but for some reason I just got an absolute explosion of pleasure from EVERYTHING that I did that day. Food tasted better, music practically made me cry out in sheer delight because suddenly it was so beautiful, and every touch and every sensation just felt like the BEST thing ever! It felt like half of the pleasure-receptors in my brain had been shut off for my entire life, and were just now waking up for the first time.

That feeling only lasted a couple of days, but I still have gained something that I just never had before as a guy... mental clarity. It's a feeling that the thoughts in my head are finally right, and that I can finally, for the first time in my entire life, feel real joy, and real pleasure, and real sadness, and real pain. As a guy, I just felt emotionally brain-dead, like my mind just wasn't working. I felt pain, but never enough to cry. I felt joy, but it always felt muted. Whereas on estrogen, suddenly it is just working! It's like my mind, and the feelings that I get, finally belong to me for the first time in my entire life, and aren't filtered through the muting of testosterone.

I was not expecting these unbelievable mental changes. I was only really expecting the physical changes, slow and pretty much unnoticeable. But it did NOT happen that way. My mind just COMPLETELY changed when I started HRT. I had never felt like this before. I didn't even know it was POSSIBLE to feel like this. And that was the instant that I finally, for 100% sure, and not just based on theories and narratives and what-ifs, knew that I really was transgender. Because when I finally started taking estrogen, for the first time in my entire life, I finally felt like my mind was working right, and that my true self was finally allowed to be unleashed, freed from the mental prison that she'd been locked up in for 14 years before that.

So yeah... it really is an unbelievable experience. I'm not saying that you'll necessarily experience the same extreme highs that I have felt, but the possibility is definitely there. It's life-changing stuff. It's reached the point where I can't even imagine going back to the way my life was before.

From what i've read, if you are right for it, Estrogen is amazing. I have even heard debate that it has addictive qualities. I can't wait. Even the little scared part of me is kinda getting excited.

Lets just say there is no going back for me because I don't think I could ever live without E.

I don't really notice the Estrogen.  The Spiro I noticed emotionally.  But the changes E is bringing are very much a non event because it feels like a guessing game over is anything happening.  I spent like two weeks trying to figure out if I was beginning to develop or if I was just cold.  Happy news, I was beginning to develop.

There's relief, that's for sure.  I was out to eat on Sunday and I was looking at the girl sitting next to me and it struck me that my skin texture looked more like her's than different.  That was agreeable.  I like that I can be moved emotionally more easily.  Watching movies is a whole new experience!  That's pretty cool.

But "Do I like HRT more than I thought I would?"--  what I like is getting rid of the T.  The E was a big deal to get on and is very important to me.  Now that I have it, well I wouldn't give it up.  I'm thankful to be on it, but I guess I don't "like it" per se because I don't want to get my hopes up.  You know?  I mean, I'm a woman, I'm inundated by images of impossible beauty that I'm "supposed" to aspire to.  I don't even want to dream about what E might do for me, I just want to be thankful for what it does do.  So yeah, I'm more thankful for it than I thought I would be.

I have had exactly the same experience.  I can't imagine not taking E.  Even on a low dose life is much richer.   Physical changes have been welcome but the mental changes have been a real gift and blessing.  Strangely my dysphoria and my constant preoccupation with transitioning have just disappeared.  E has taken me to a good place that feels absolutely right for me - calm, sensate, empathetic and just happier.   I feel like I have come home and am now truly at peace.

I didn't start on it to just control my gid, I started on it to transition. It did what I expected for the most part with the bonus of almost completely eliminating headaches that I got regularly before I started. I pretty much only get a headache now if my e level is really low.

I was only able to be on low dose E for about six months before I had an unrelated medical problem, which caused HRT to be suspended.

But in those 6 months I changed.  Physically somewhat, but emotionally, a great deal.  Sometimes I describe it as learning how to "feel" again.  And it coincided with becoming a member here, and learning more about myself.

So it was not "magic," but it was therapeutic.

I can still remember when I first started take E. it wasnt an incredibly high dosage, but here is my account of how it was for me, My head was always a jumbled mess so many inadequicies(sp) and just pretty much a mess, 1-3 days in I noticed a overwelming calmness, and it jusst felt like my body/brain was given something it desperately needed, at 7-10 days my thoughts were no-longer a jumbled mess and I could very much explain my thoughts and feelings better. Everything became clear, and made me totally aware of who I was and what I needed to do, than at about 4 eeks my mom medled in my personal business and got the dr to take me off E and not prescribe it to me, I lost it and everything went way bad and my mom realised that was a bad idea, tried to get the dr to give it to me again, he wouldnt and at that point I decided I could never transistion where I was safely, and I ran away. and well here I am.

So yes it madee a very strong impact on me.

yeah um yes ?? ?

if i don't take pills for like a week i get cranky and dysthymic and have low energy but that's only because i don't have natural production of hormones anymore?
before srs i had pretty much no change if i forgot my pills.

After a week on Estrogen and testron blockers I got way more zen. Everything was cool and easy. I was totally expecting to be crazy and moody so the "one with the universe" thing was a unexpected surprise.

This got reinforced after I lost my job and I couldn't afford to go get blood work so I could re up on my prescriptions. I was off my pills for about a month and life was not fun at all! I was angry and annoyed at everything.  Then I got back on the pills and I was way better more happy, zen, etc.

So yes I did like it more then I thought I would.

No, some T is made by the adrenal glands over the kidneys. Not much, but taht's where women get their small amounts of T.

I had no preconceived notions of what it would do for me, just that I needed it BADLY.

I cannot even imagine going off of it.

Well in some ways. I certainly haven't felt the emotional miracles that other posters are talking about. Part of that could be that my wife just asked for a divorce so everything feels pretty crappy. Still I was really surprised because my doctor told me not to expect anything.

Even with the original low dose I knew that E was deffinitely "It".  The GID reduced very quickly and unlike other girls I actually feel E did magical things to me.  Now just need all the distractions and personal family issues to go away.

For me, it seemed that after a week or so a light switch was flipped.  Everything seemed much more intense, smells, colors and even tastes were all amped up.  Also I finally felt balanced in my body, and not like I was struggling with it. It just made me feel "right" somehow.  I couldn't imagine going off now that I know how it feels.

You know I never really believed when I was pre-HRT that E could change your orgasm when people said it did but it actually does.

While I can't say for certain if I've had a "female" orgasm, I can say that it has changed drastically since my pre-HRT days. It's become far more intense and as best I can describe it feels like a shockwave travelling through my entire body.

In the spirit of honesty, I have this wired feeling like there's nothing really left for me here as a man. The air is stale. I can't picture things getting much better or worse. I think that's a pretty good sign that something drastically needs to change. I'm not depressed at all, but I am not remotely happy either. It's just sort of grey. And all things being equal, I'd rather have a chance at smiling with the sun on my face again. That's what I mean when I tell people " I have to know."

Oh, God, that's like EXACTLY how I felt right before I started HRT. I was constantly in a state that I now call "dull gray drear" mode, where although I could be happy, it just never felt like true happiness, and sadness never felt like true sadness. And when I heard about all of the mental changes that were possible on HRT, things like finally experiencing a sense of self and the like, that was one of the things that finally did push me to go for it. I knew that if there was a chance out there of finally being happy after a lifetime of being unhappy with my physical self and feeling "meh," I had to try for it. And once I did... oh my God! I'm with the last few posters. I can't fathom ever going back off of E now that I've started. It has COMPLETELY changed the way that I experience the world.

I think it's more than estrogen that brings happiness. I think a lot of it is knowing your finally heading in the right direction with your life. And your one step closer to being the person you want to be. Estrogen can improve your mood but overall its about finding happiness within yourself and learning to love life that brings about true happiness. :) btw I love your avatar!

I think I know what you're talking about, but I know pre-hrt, if I hadn't anything for a while, and then the next time if i i went slowly on purpose to let the "pressure"??? felling build up it was better than normal. slowly meaning get close, and then back of for a minute or 2 and repeat for like, 10 times.

When i started estrogen i guess i was hoping for some changes and clearing of my mind. Ive been estrogen now for 10 months, as of  yesterday, and I can say that Ive never felt more true to my self or more in touch with my mind and emotions. For me it was like everything suddenly made sense and any confusion i had left disappeared. I now feel like I'm discovering who the the real me is. Its kind of exciting and scary at the same time. So in short estrogen for me has been a blessing and i never thought it would be as good as it was been

PS Having breasts is great too  :)

E may not be magical, but what it does for the mental well being of a woman seems to be enormous. It had a serious beneficial impact on my mental state, as it should!  Hormones play a huge role in your life even if they seem invisible.

I am noot addicted to hormones, there is no such thing as an addiction to hormones.  But I couldn't live without it after knowing how my body feels when its more estrogen aligned than testosterone aligned.

All besides the wonderful breasts its made me sprout and them hips, dat booty.  The more intense "feelings" it gave me if you catch my drift also hehe.

I didn't know what to expect.  What I found was:

My work has improved in quality and quantity.
I feel waaaaay better than I have in years.
I sleep better.
Sometimes sex is better, sometimes it's not.
I feel more alive.
I was very driven, very intense.  Now, I'm more laid back but getting more done.

I went to yet another super special urologist Monday.  He wanted to take me off E and put me back on T because he is concerned about the rather rapid physical changes.  When my wife, who was not for me taking E, heard this, she literally yelled "NO!".  Evidently I'm also quite a bit more fun.

I knew it'd be great, and I also knew it would do almost nothing for depression or other mental health issues (i.e., social anxiety disorder, etc)

I was not disappointed about either. I love, love, love the body effects of E, and the mental effects (calming, reduction of anxiety primarily) of it...however I am still "stuck" with the traumas and PTSD I had before, but it has been reduced a little bit: Before, I was trying desperately to be "one of the guys" and hoping they didn't see through my charade (which is how I saw it)...now, I don't care because, well, it's obvious that I am NOT a "guy", so they can't hold me to their standards...and if they don't want to see me as a woman, tough frikkin' titties, fellas.

I'm woman enough for me, and my friends...so yeah, I like E.

Actually I felt terrible the first few months on hormones. I liked the physical effects but it amplified the anxiety and depression I had at the time. It took a few months for things to settle down. I remember talking to Dr Curtis about it and he said he felt the same on testosterone to begin with.

I've only been on low dosage HRT for about 10 days, but I can already feel the changes!  My skin is much softer all over! My mind is a bit more at ease!  And, as someone had mentioned earlier, my orgasms are a different and more intense.  How is change this fast possible?  Does this seem a lil quick to anyone else?

Like you I've been on the low dosage HRT (E+Spiro) for 1 week. The first few days I had the sensation of skin becoming softer, less of unwanted erection down there but more on the girls. But the effect seem to have subsided for now except smoother skin. Taking the suggestion from reading other posts in this forum, I don't want to get my hopes high and just let nature (+E) takes it's course. ;D

I love it,  I felt on top of the world when I took my first dose just over 2 years ago.

I felt excited when my nipples starting getting sensitive and nipples began to swell as I knew my boobies were starting to grow. My body took to the hormones very well and I felt sensitivity in my nipples very early on.

I am really enjoying this journey, I felt very satisfied and happy when I began hormones and had a sense of well being. This was the right move.

Horomones have blessed me with feminine waist, C cup breasts and better skin.

I am more emotional and also I was a lesbian before horomones, now 2 years in, I seem to notice guys too. I am now bisexual. I am actually now kinda seeing a guy (nothing serious), but dating.

I am a girlie girl, and love all the typical girlie female appeals.. shoes, makeup, doing my nails etc.

My roommate said to me, she cant believe how much of a girl I am... (She is a g-girl).. I was so happy

I've been on estrogen for 6 months, and I've seen nothing but positive changes... More than I anticipated. I couldn't be happier :)

When your depressed or anxious about things in life, I find E can make it worst.  I got a serious crash course when my relationship failed.  But it was a good lesson in learning to cope with issues as a woman.

I know it seems like that changes after only 10 days is a bit far fetched, but I'm QUITE positive it's not a placebo effect! Even if it was, I don't mind, as long as things continue to be awesome and get even better!  :)

Just think: If it's this awesome when having a placebo effect...just wait till the real thing starts kicking in!! Enjoy it, either way!!

At the same time...have patience!

It aint placebo, nor is it wierd at all  ;D  Our brains are wired differently and have been missing that strong link since puberty probably.

Last year when taking estro and spiro, I became unable to function sexually after three days, at least like I normally did, so I know it effects us and it hits hard and fast. Visible feminization obviously takes longer, but I would say complete sexual shutdown is a major effect, especially so fast. I was astounded. So much so I stopped because of that and some other effects like a bad bad headache (prob dehydration from the spiro). But I went in kinda unsure about it all so maybe I shoulda waited. Now I'm much more sure and am going to take a lower starting dose of spiro and a slightly lower dose of estro.  I'm hoping for big changes but we'll see. I'm already pretty docile and non-aggressive so any calming effects would mainly be anxiety-related.

I did like Estrogen more than I thought I would, but it took a while to get to where I felt that way. I would say the first few months there was a sense of euphoria, which was probably more placebo and knowing I had finally chosen the course I had always felt my life should be taking. This all changed into realizing how different I felt before (emotionally, socially, mentally, and sexually) taking hormones to where I was at several months later and how all these changed in such a positive way there was no turning back for me. It was for me like finally finding what you have been missing to make everything else fall into place and at once feel what it was like to really be me.

I still function sexually just fine - when I want too.. I have a zero T level.

What a wonderful contrast to hear from Megan S and our Kelly Rebel, et al about their experiences.  You are really reassuring for me, in that we have such varying responses to HRT.  I will likely start HRT in 1-2 weeks and feel so excited and yet a bit of anxiety about the great unknown.  Holding on tight and appreciating you sharing the journey.

Since we're talking about sexual function, with me it was kind of funny. In my first couple of weeks, my sex-drive just died, and I really didn't miss it, but then within the last couple of weeks suddenly orgasms started getting WAY more powerful, and suddenly my sex-drive came rocketing back, just in a completely different way than it ever was before. Before HRT, having a sex-drive honestly always felt like an annoyance to me, because it felt like a need, something that I had to satisfy or else I felt like crap, and it really resulted in a kind of constant roller-coaster ride of highs and lows. Where now, for the first time in my life, I actually have a sex-drive that I like, and enjoy, because it's completely based around me wanting to feel good rather than having an actual need for it. So although HRT did kill my "old" sex-drive, it gave me a completely new one that I actually enjoy even more, because it actually feels "right," instead of feeling like a foreign invader that constantly controls me like testosterone-fueled desire always did.

Anyway, just throwing in my 2 cents on the topic.

I noticed this too! Now I feel in control of my sex drive instead of the other way around.

OMG that sounds way too familiar--the before part.  I have always wanted to be able to turn off the T or at least have some mini switch I could flip to see what life would be like without the "annoyance."
The gonadal influence on my thinking and behavior has been a torment for me and others.  I was over the top concerned about wanting so much and yet feeling so unlovable as a male partner.  That thing about satisfying myself and my partner as "a man" just about killed me till I started transition and accepted myself as TG.  Now I feel some of those same positive changes even pre HRT.  This is amazing to feel so much more calm and as you say "right"  I do not miss being a horny boy one bit.  It felt embarrassing to once be kicked out of bed by a gay man as "too shy or femme."  The world seems to be much more understandable to me now.

I will have to say that I am happy with the results, and some nexpected side affects, since I started HRT, I feel just better, while I still do have depression, it lessened, and I'm able to smile a little more, just for starters

I noticed my feet get colder faster than they used to, I have Raynaud's Disease that affects my hands so they always gotten cold extremely fast. However I also noticed this winter I don't seem to handle cold in general as well as I used to be able too...

Yep. And this was quite a shock to me, because I NEVER used to get cold, even in the chilliest of temperatures. But after starting HRT, suddenly it felt like my internal thermostat just absolutely shut off. I used to be able to go outside in just a pair of shorts and a t-shirt to do some quick 1-minute task outside, even if it was snowing, and it didn't really bother me. Where now I don't even think about leaving the house without a coat. As soon as I hit that cold air, I start shivering like crazy, and it's like the cold just goes straight through me. And while I used to always be sweating in my work uniform, now I actually feel cold sometimes when the air is on too high, and almost never sweaty like I used to be. So yeah, my internal thermostat pretty much completely changed. I'm cold all the time now.

(Which I actually love... being cold is much better than constantly being hot, IMO. I can always dress in more layers if I'm cold, but there reaches a certain point when it's too hot where you can't take anything else off, and yet you're still too hot. That feeling just plain sucks.)

Totaly agree with you on this. Being from tropical country, I've had enough with the feeling of being too hot.

So that's why it feels so cold now! I couldn't figure out what it was, because the thermostat says the same temperature I used to be comfortable at!

I'm addicted! After 18 years on HRT I find that when I use a tiny amount of T cream to bump up my libido that my body converts roughly half of that to estrogen. This according to the endocrinologist deciphering the results of a recent blood draw and lab work.
