Title: Hi Everyone!
Post by: Rachel85 on February 23, 2013, 02:47:44 AM
Hi everyone!
I'm Cynthia (chosen name), I'm a MtF trans who's only recently "discovered" or rather accepted this part of myself and running with it! I've pretty much denied it etc. since I can remember and have had serious thoughts since I was 11, but years of social conditioning, repression, denial, fear, self loathing (all that fun stuff!) has got me here and I finally am accepting it as part of my true self at 27.
I am soon to start with counseling and have only spoken with my doctor about it in person, seriously want to tell more people ie. family and friends, but the trepidation and fear of rejection (or worse) has kept me tight lipped.
I'm living in Adelaide (Hi Cindy, Kelly and all the other gals and guys!) and look forward to meeting some people in the community down the track. I would also love it if anyone in the Adelaide region has tips or info on services and trans friendly places in town (I'm particularly thinking of a good electrolysis-er, if that it a word), please PM me.
I'm not going to lie, it took a while to get on the forums but I am really pleased with myself that I am here and am actually starting to talk about it, until now it has only been reading other peoples stories and stopping and realising "Hey! they sound just like me!".
Also just want to do a quick shout out to Jas, a beautiful woman who has a youtube channel, I have never met her but her vlogs gave me the extra courage to stop trying to tell myself that it wasn't me and actually stop, think and act. We only have one life, this one is mine and I don't want to live it the way someone else wants me to just "because".
I think that might be enough for now, I do like to talk. And write.
Looking forward to being part of the community!
kind regards,

Cynthia

Hi Cynthia, :icon_wave:

Welcome to our little family. Over 10211  strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion.

Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.

But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another sister. (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsmileys.on-my-web.com%2Frepository%2FAnimals%2Fferret-3.gif&hash=f49e2f86761323f2abd9c33941920389dbb3b10f)

Cynthia, welcome from sunny southern California.  I am more than happy to have another Aussie join our ranks.   And you pinpointed the two primary trouble-makers ... errr ... contributors, from Adelaide.

Glad you found us.  :)

Thanks!
Hahah yea, I started looking on the forums and I kept seeing these two people EVERYWHERE! hahaha Jokes, but yes, very happy to be here. I think that having supportive people around you is probably the most important thing you can have when dealing with things. So far I've told my GP (who has experience with this) and another friend who is very accepting so I'm doing well! Dreading telling the family, some should take it well I think, other mightn't be so accepting. Some of my friends also. But hey! As a wise person once told me, Dr Seuss nailed it years ago. "The people who mind don't matter and the people that matter don't mind" (or words to that effect).
I think that is a pretty fair way to sum it up.
Still I am not so blind that it's not going to be all roses and champagne, so here I am back at the beginning...
Thanks for having me! hahaha
I'll see you all on the forums!

Cynthia

Hi Cynthia,

A warm Welcome to you from one of the Adelaide trouble makers.. I'll let Cindy point you in the direction of medical types..

But a few little facts about myself and my coming out.. I've not lost a single friend or family member, I still have them all. I've faced very few issues when out and about as a trans woman. I'm often to be found at Mars on a Friday or Saturday night - it's a nice, friendly venue.

See you around the forums and maybe we could catch up for coffee or something sometime..

Hugs,
Kelly

Thanks Kelly!
Fantastic that you have true friends and your family must be great. We could all be so lucky! hahaha
We are a pretty tight group in my family but the eternal pessimist in me makes me think "What if no?".
Anyway I'll have to see how these things turn out, no point in trying to worry about the future. I think my coming out to them is a little way off for now which means I'll have plenty of time to think it over (and worry!).
Thanks again everyone for making me feel so welcome.

Cynthia

P.S. Never been to Mars bar! I stopped going out a while ago to save money etc. and didnt have many people to go out with, but I think a visit down the track may be inevitable! Will let you know Kelly!

Hi Cynthia,

Jamie of the Girth had better look out, Trouble indeed!

Hio Hon, If you haven't guessed Cindy here. I'll pm you medical stuff.

As far as electrolysis. I had all of mine done by The Adelaide Laser Hair Clinic. (www.adelaidelaserhair.net (http://www.adelaidelaserhair.net)). They were great. Very very nice, I went in boy mode as I wasn't out FT at the time. You also can't wear makeup for laser and I didn't feel comfy going out out without the disguise. I tild them during sessions why I was having the facial hair, then the boob hair then the tummy hair removed and they were very nice.

Lots of advice on skin care, very careful and understanding.

I'm out FT and I have a very high profile position came out 'on the job' and have had no problems whatsoever.

Adelaide must be one of the easiest places on the planet to be accepted as a transperson in my experience.

So hugs and see you around!

Cindy

Thanks Cindy!
I am starting to see that I am not the only person that has gone through this before! hahaha There are more than just a few of us out there!
Did you go with laser only? I've got a fairly well covering beard and dark hair so from what I've read laser would probably work really well on me but I also read that electrolysis is the only way to guarantee a clean face.
Either way I will get a consultation with them and see how I go!
Will PM you when I can, thank you again!
Kind Regards,

Cynthia
