Title: My latest painting
Post by: DriftingCrow on March 02, 2013, 06:57:41 PM
Here's my latest painting, it was done all in good fun. I did the background with a paint roller from Lowe's and the actual painting with my fingers. It was supposed to be used for a really intricate persian tile painting, but having to cut out the intricate forms with a box cutter just got hair splitting.  :eusa_wall:  So, today I had a new movement from listening to my favorite Wuauquikuna song:

WUAUQUIKUNA - Buffalo white (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-BLWUhSKL8#)

So, this song inspired my latest painting titled "Wuauquikuna -- Ode to Lightning Medicine Cloud" :

Despite being taken indoors with my cell phone camera, the colors are quite accurate (it's only red and black anyways). Not really the best thing I've ever done in terms of "talent" but I like it. I've wanted to my "art" (which I hate calling it art, it just feels like such a serious word) to be more lively and spontaneous and I feel like that came through in this picture.

Here's two old ones from roughly 2007 or 2008:

"Three Half Eaten Corneas"

Edit: to add titles. Inspired by The Mars Volta.

Five points to anyone who can tell me who this is (it's a hard one since my painting sucks  :P ) hint: 1973.

Expressive work. I immediately thought "Wounded Knee". Is that Russell Means?

I just finished another painting, called Somali Woman. I was inspired by this Sisters of Somali (http://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/witness/2013/07/20137112549633235.html), and a YouTube channel I subscribe to called "Somali Food Blog" -- which you should definitely check out!

Cubed Chicken (Suqaar Digaag) مكعبات الدجاج (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ges5wjCEBE#)

She was originally intended to be another one of the paintings I've shown above where it's just the background color and then black paint---but she ended up taking a life of her own.  :) I hope she comes across as looking cheerful, because I was hoping to show something from a place mainly known only for conflict, famine, and misery as being able to continue on with life despite tragedies.

I like your use of color and the simplicity of the composition. Puts the attention on her personality.
Yummy recipe too.
