Title: Useless comment about the weather in Australia
Post by: Cindy on March 10, 2013, 07:25:58 AM
It is so fing hot!!!!

Close to midnight in Adelaide and yet another day of over 35C, tomorrow 37C day after 38C, it has been like this for weeks.

Midnight, its 32C.

I can't keep running the airconditioning.

I realise you all feel sorry for me and I'll take comfort from that.

I understand your sympathy.

Hope you freeze.

For us fahrenheit folks, when stated in celsius, some of us may be having images of snow on the ground where you live.  :)

But it sounds hot!

C --> F

The rule is, "Double it, and add 30." (The actual formula is 9/5C + 32)

35C = ~100^F

Yes, that is a bit warm. Best way to handle that would be shade, sunscreen, a tall glass of lemonade...and airline tix to Tahiti.

It's fine here in Sydney. So don't worry folks. Cindy's just been cooking up too much ....lately   ;D

Oh well, it will be hot as hell here soon. I plan on staying in the house this time. There is no way I am going through repeated bouts of heatstroke like I did last year. Screw that noise.

But THIS noise is totally awesome!

Pretty hot! But I'd rather have that than walking out at 7am and having my hair freeze while I'm scraping ice off the windshield with my sweatshirt sleeve.

Cindy,
If you haven't got humidity on top of the heat, best is to strip down to your skivvies and a mesh baby doll. Sit in front of the largest fan you can find, and let him blow on you while you mist yourself with cool water. You do have a mister?

If you do have humidity, only thing is to strip down to your bra and panties, and drop a couple of ice cubes in each. When they melt, repeat.

Good luck!

It was so hot when I went out for lunch in the mid-day. What made it worse was the humidity last week, and Adelaide was like a steamer.

The pro is that I could no long bear wearing jeans to school and present in a gender neutral way. So I decided to wear skirts in full days since last Friday. No one in the lab has even show any surprise.

Does that mean going full time? I have no idea. Anyway, I have no plan falling back to male dressing. But I have not officially stated anything about my preferred gender, although everyone around me must have realized what's happening.

Now there comes the problem of choosing bathroom in the lab. It is easy outside the lab where no one knows me. But when in the lab where everyone knows me pretty well, plus I do not have a letter from therapist, going to either bathroom could be embarrassing.

So pleased that you are looking out for Cindy! This is all great advice, I just have one question. When selecting a mister, does size really matter?

Well, gripping a mister that is too large can cause fatigue after a few hours. But if your mister is on a pedestal or can be put on one, then you can just reach out and squeeze when needed, whatever the size. If floor standing, then an extra large mister is a plus. It all depends.

No sympathy from me Ms Cindy.  You are all a bunch of sooky la las in Adelaide  ;D

I tell my family and friends that all the time.

You have a lovely dry heat, not hot and humid where you slip off the couch into a puddle of sweat, and you can literally watch the grass grow.

Nothing to complain about.  Wish I was there right now........

I do have a preference for my mister to be mounted, they can be very effective when securely embedded.

Its different for every hot woman, but I definitely prefer that the mister give thorough attention to every part of my glistening, overheated core, then the extremities, then the core.

Time to dry out the shovels then!
But seriously, with that humidity, better give the mister a rest, and while you are at it, have your man servant make like the Antarctic Ocean and pack ice.
Before what he is packing starts to drip or sag, apply to your hottest regions until you feel relief.
Do I have to explain everything?

You are obviously a woman of experience. If I put my mister in a cold room and then apply to multiple parts of the body, should this be cooling?

That's the kind of ingenuity I have come to expect from top scientists from down under!
Well done, Cindy.

It will be cooling for the mister as well as for you.

By the way, If you have more than one mister, you can rotate them for twice the enjoyment.
And don't let it bother you if someone calls you frigid. She's probably just jealous because she doesn't have a mister of her own.

I love it when I'm in Adelaide and people say "It's so humid today"

Nah, you've got nothing to worry about. Just last week our media was in a flat panic about a sudden 'heatwave' when our temperatures rocketed to a 'scorching' 13 degrees.

Just pack a swimming cozzie & some sunglasses, you'll be fine.  ;D

That having been said, we're currently suffering from a weather front nicknamed the 'Beast from the East' which is (allegedly) giving us colder temperatures than Alaska. Let's see... today, Anchorage has a 'high' of 1.6 degrees; our 'high' is 3 degrees.

So... not 'colder than Alaska' then.

Sorry to be so late on this thread, but have beeen off the air for a few days. I have a bit of a wild ride since my doctor increased my "moves" dosage. Yes here in Melbourne we have had a week of days in the mid 30's and nights in the high twenties. Today the forecast is 39C. At the moment we have clear blue skies and only a ittle wind. Luckily this year so far we seemed to have escaped the realy hot days. Last year the end of Fenruary/First week March it topped 45C in Melbourne.

This last weekend though we had a public holiday, but on FRiday I was working at home with the cooling on (Temperature outside of 35C) and then the Internet went down. (I was doing some software work), then my fan started to slow down , then start,, then stop. Then I heard the fire brigade and the al of suddenly the lights went out, my Mac stopped working and the fan and cooling switched off. I rang the Electricity company who said they were investigating, but didn't know the cause, It was 2.30pm and it turned out the substation down the road had overheated and burst into flames knocking out the Telstra Internet Cable junction. Well 170 homes were effected.

Two hours later after I retreated to the local Macdonalds for a Ice cold Milk Shake and Air conditioning, I returned home to find still no joy. So it was time to put the bikini on and jump into the swimming pool. Feeling much better, i went into the house and shivered - the electricity was back on and the cooling was at full blast with 20C.

Well enough of that I thought, so on Saturday I headed to the ocean to stay dow there. I arrived at 8pm only to find the place I was staying in had just had a brownout. No electricity, the rental house in 40C heat inside, no electricity and no cooling, no lights . It was off for the next 4 hours.

On Sunday they said we were in for another week of mid to late 30s, but I heard this morning we might get a cool change on Thursday and possibly wonderful rain on Saturday!!
Hugs

WEENIES!! All you Aussies.  >:-)

Can't stand a little bit of heat now, can you?

Here in SUNNY South Africa, we are used to those kind of temperatures, and high humidity to boot.

Okay, bye, I am now going to hide from the Aussie mafia because I'm in DEEP trouble now! :o

Hey Maegan,
You're safe girl. All the Aussies have gone underground to hide from the heat, leaving the rest of the world to hi-jack this thread. Well just look at Cooper Pedy. They turned their disused mines into housing.

You girls and guys are wwwaaaaayyyyyy too close to the equator for our liking. I reckon I could bake a pavlova without putting it into the oven, where you are.   ;D

It's amazing the relief you can sustain from just wearing a cool moist cloth round your neck. Cool bananas.

BTW, to translate on an international forum go to google and type in something like this 38C=?F.
That works for any measurement stuff. Money doesn't quite work that well as there is a rate of exchange.

So 38C is about 100 degrees F. Pretty hot for midnight. Probably about like Phoenix.

Yesterday I was in Adelaide, 45.1 degrees C!!!!  (113 degrees F).   Fourth hottest day on record.

It is going to be the same there today, but I'm back in Canberra where it will only be 40.

Unfortunately you usually can't. Best thing is to get the hell as far away from them as you can.

This would have to be the biggest "con" job of the century, surely. Mr. Morrison is trying to tell us, our Navy is so hopelessly stupid not to know where they are at any one given time on the high seas?

Baulderdash. They know within a tenth of a metre, exactly, where they are. If they don't, they need some serious navigational retraining.

Oh we can launch cruise missiles, pity we don't know where we are. Send them right and a bit up, no a bit higher, looks good, launch!!

For heavens sake the Exmouth base tells the USA nuclear subs where they are.

No no. You see the border lines are actually painted on the oceans but they keep moving around all the time because of the waves, so it's definitely not the navy's fault.  ;D

Aaaaahh. Now I understand. Thank you Grace. Sooooo Mr. Morrison isn't as stupid as he looks? As that would be seemingly impossible anyway.  :)   Anyway you wouldn't see the painted lines at night, would you?

I understand your sympathy.

Hope you freeze.

My sympathies to the Adelaide contingent on this forum, it's been very unpleasant in the nation's capital but what we have had to put up with is nothing in comparison to what you have had to deal with.

Philadelphia just got hit with another snow storm and a nor'easter is coming tonight.

This winter we have had -18 C temps, snow storms, ice storms and freeing rain. We had one ice storm hit during rush hour which was bad. We lost power for 3 days and many lost power for up to a week and the temps were below freezing. There is a area called New Hope that may have severe flooding tonight due to ice dams.

So, when I hear of 100 degree F temps in Australia, I can just wish. Can you send some warmth to the USA?
