Title: First therapy session
Post by: lawliver on March 19, 2013, 06:31:37 AM
I have my first therapy session on the 26th of this month. I'm pretty nervous but at the same time I am very excited to get started with my transition. I was wondering what are some of the things they ask you? Trying to better ready myself for this so I don't walk in there stumbling over my words (and possibly my feet)

thanks everyone!  ;D

Hi Lawliver,

The first session is really just a "getting to know you."  Pretty light, no major issues tackled. Possibly the biggest question that may be asked is, "What brought you here today?"

Being relaxed (remember to keep breathing) and open to answering as honestly as posible is always a good tactic to bring.

Remember to, this is a trust building exercise. Can you trust each other?

You'll do fine.

Be safe, well and happy.
Lotsa huggs
Catherine

*waves at Lawliver*

I actually had my first session today, and I was feeling the same as your describing... possibly more since he was late and I had an extra hour to sit with myself in the car freaking out lol.

General questions is all. My therapist told me whenever I'm ready to tell them why I was there would be up to me and no pressure. :D
It really is just a meet and greet but you can say whatever your comfortable saying.

My therapist ended up telling me I could stay another hour because once I started to open up, it was like a flood of information I had held up in me for the last decade.

You'll be fine just be honest and open. Its your time and your money spend it however your comfortable.
