Title: Emboldened and Excited!
Post by: MaidofOrleans on March 26, 2013, 11:13:42 AM
So this is sort of a continuation of this topic.

https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,137355.0.html (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,137355.0.html)

Anyways last week I had my HR rep contact company HR about me and they basically just said to do my thing when I come out at work and if anyone harasses me to notify my manager. She told me I needed to have a sit down talk with my manager so he would know whats going on and this freaked me out because he is very conservative and scary  :-\

I literally couldn't sleep for days and I felt terrible and didn't know why. I wasn't worried about it but I think it might of been one of those repressed back of the mind worries. I couldn't stand not sleeping so yesterday I basically said "F it" and went into his office and told him everything trying to be as confident as possible even though I thought I was going to pee my panties

My worst fears turned out to be again...just in my head. He was very respectful and nice about it. He told me that he understands that this wasn't some overnight decision and that I have been struggling with this for a while. He said he'd make sure no one harasses me both employees and customers. He told me I was a fantastic employee and hard working employee (compliments like these are rare from him) and that he would do whatever he needs to help make me comfortable including time off for surgeries, etc. if needed. He asked me what sort of things I consider harassment so he knows what to look out for and notify our managers so they know. He seemed very genuine about all of it. So far my company continues to reinforce my positive feelings about it.

Anyways I left the office feeling great and last night I had the best night sleep in months!  ;D

So, conservatives aren't all evil joy-killing vampires?

Kidding, sorta. I think it's probably healthier in the long run to go in presuming everyone (at least in professional context) will be understanding and tolerant than vice versa. But that might just be anecdotal experience.

Still, better to seek a friend and maybe find an enemy than seek a foe and be guaranteed to find one.

This is awesome. Congrats! I love love love hearing positive stories. I thanks God everyday (Ok I don't you caught me) that I don't live in some rural town in Texas or the deep south or something.

I don't think anyone thinks this about conservatives BTW. Everyone knows vampires don't exist lol hehehe

They are real, you just have not been out at night in the 'right' part of town.  ;)

I'm so glad for you. You are not only pretty but pretty smart. For so many they do not handle work & change of gender, then lose a job & no income, so sad.

I hope more follow your steps.

For me so long ago I was in business/suit & tie & really no way to change, I had to leave.

Enjoy your restfull nights sleep, you deserve it.

I too am also glad that things seem to be good for you. Even though I am very, very far from your situation, I fear what may happen. I'll just have to deal with it when the time comes.

Best to stay positive. Ive found each stage of transition is much more difficult in my head.

Belated congratulations again.

I was helping someone with their fears recently and I had sort of forgotten the tortuous twists and concerns that we can generate, when in reality they just fade away.

I have found people to be very accepting understanding and helpful, I think we just need to give them a bit of time and room to get used to stuff as it is new for them, while we are blossoming with lives that have been with us for many many years.

Hugs and congrats

This seems really rare. This guy really gets it. Even my close friends are treating this like some kind of lark that I could turn on and off at will.

Obviously these folks value you a lot. I'm sure that's a credit to how good you are at your job.

Good luck and happy transitioning.

Came out to two more people at work today.

Friendly crazy Republican lady from this thread:

https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,134113.0.html (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,134113.0.html)

She told me that shes got my back and that if anyone messes with me they have to deal with her.

and the other was one of my workplace girlfriends who I always mess with. I think it bit me in the butt this time because she didn't believe me when I told her. Keep in mind i'm like the class clown for work and she thought it was an early April fools. I had to sit there and convince her it was real. She finally believed me and told me she wouldn't think any less of me and if I needed some new skin care products I could ask her (she sells them through some thing she does)  ::)

Nope....though some of us are hardcore transwomen.   :)

Good for you, MaidofOrleans! I am glad it went well.  We are definitely making strides and it truly is great to hear a story like this.  By sharing we inspire one another to bridge that fear necessary to just be...us.  Crossing my fingers when I approach my employer later this year that it will go well, too.

Good luck with being a conservative in today's world and being trans. Go to any conservative forum and talk about anything remotely trans and you'll get 10,000 people universally saying you are from satan. Or even better go to a conservative town meeting and admit you remotely support trans people not being killed and see what happens.

I do tend to agree that for the most part, conservatives do not care for trans people. However, we have a number of conservative trans individuals on this site. I think they are actually quite accepted in their beliefs.

I tried that. People were very friendly, especially when I made it clear that I wasn't accusing all present of attempted murder. :[

Zoe you seem like a really cool person and I don't hate conservatives (I don't hate anyone) but I have to look at people's actions. Arizona in the last couple of years has been a kind of vanguard state where ideas are proposed and written into law and then other states follow. So, if this bill is any indicator, have fun using the bathroom.

But you can get that anywhere on the internet. And btw I live in a heavily conservative area and have yet to have anyone try to kill me or say anything negative to me. And you should probably calm down and lay off this subject before this thread gets locked too. :)

Had a sit down talk with my assistant manager. She basically got to hear my whole story and seemed really happy for me. She said if anyone harasses me to let her know immediately and was excited and very interested by the whole thing. It ended with another hug. ;D

Another down....sooo many more to go... :P

I was once told, just prior to starting HRT, that both acceptance and (unfortunately) rejection will come from unexpected places. Its been the case to this day.
