Title: Where are you from?
Post by: dean1229 on March 29, 2013, 04:25:21 PM
Hey girls and boys (girls first of course! :) ). I thought this would be interesting to know where we come from. And i would appreciate some info on trans people in your country too! I think most of the people on this forum are from the USA but i hope there are a lot of members from other countries too...

Ok, so let me start here. I am a FTM from Bulgaria, Europe. And this is really hard to be a transgendered or transsexual person here. :(((( We have like minimum tolerance to trans people here and 95% of so called "normal" people hate us. :(((( I know for sure, if i ever tried living like a guy full time there would be a huge chance of  somebody killing me sooner or later.

What is it like in your country? I would really like to know!

Hey girl! How are you?

So, what is it like in Oregon? Do they hate trans people or are they quite of OK with them? Tell me more if you don't mind! :)

Oregon is very green west of the Cascade Mountains and dry eastward.  I live near Portland, which is the largest city in Oregon, and it is very trans-friendly.  It is a progressive city as they just added SRS to the city health plan for city workers.  We do seem to get more than our fair share of rain, but a lot of that is because the clouds hit the mountains and then rain.

Hi Dean,

I live in Toronto, Canada. Very liberal here. Media has a good deal of info & stories that is assuaging people into understanding better if not tolerance. Our lives may be coming more safer as our Federal Government passed a bill on to the Senate for protection in our Bill of Rights. Hopefully it won't take long for the Senate to pass this in to law. The Province I live in, the Government has already done that here.

G'Day Dean, I live on the small island state of Tasmania Australia. The people in this state are conservertive and can be closed minded. As far as the LGBT community, they are tolerated only due to the Anti-Discrimination act.

I'm from Newcastle Upon Tyne, Uk. From what I've heard, we're ok with LGBT stuff. From what I've personally experienced it's pretty rubbish, but I'm not likely to get killed, thank god..

Hi Dean. I'm from New York City in the USA. NYC is trans friendly depending upon where you are. The areas I hang out in are friendly. I came out in my own neighborhood last year. So far, everything has been fine.

:)

Hi gennee,

I was in NYC twice a long time ago, last time was in the mid 60's. A nick name for Toronto is New York North, a smaller version with the surrounding burbs about 3 million people. Culturally  diverse, museums, art galleries, music halls, clubs, stage & excellent restaurants. If you think you may come to the city, let me know, could show you around. I had relatives in Montreal & a Toronto native friend transferred there for a few more years, so I visit occasionally. Was there last fall & met Tessa. If you go back again, maybe we could all meet up. I love Montreal.

I'm from Germany.

It's mediocore I guess. When it comes to legislation there is little discrimination compared to other countries, but parts of society are not comfortable with it. I experienced mixed responses, but overall I am fine and it doesn't affect me too much.

What a neat idea!

Minnesota girly here. America's heartland. The land of 10,000 bores..

Not too sure about the trans community, but I don't get chased around with pitchforks so that must be a good sign. Typically, most of the people I meet are pretty understanding, but there is the occasional farmer trapped in a bigone era who likes to try and make a scene.

I attribute enraged men being mad because they wish their wife could look this good. ;)

I'm in coastal North Carolina, the us of a. I live in a little town of around 420 people with other small towns around us. Its not been too bad for me once I transitioned, people got over themselves for the most part. There is one other trans woman in town, not real sure how things are for her as I have not asked even though I occasionally talk to her. I work in the only store in town, so I am in front of a lot of people every day and even after over two years, I still like the job and the people.

Wow, another from NC here as well. I'm not trans however, just CD for right now. In this tiny little town, I'll probably have to move if/when I start HRT.
