Title: stopping hrt for surgery
Post by: SoShy on April 05, 2013, 01:39:39 PM
okay.. so I've reached the point that I'm having to stop my HRT so that I can have my surgery..
but I've become a ROYAL B-itch... I mean.. I can't seem to be nice at all when I disagree or don't like something.. I just go into full on claws and ready to rip throats out..

ANYONE have suggestions or solutions for how to get this under control?? or how to calm it down??

Kia Ora SoShy,

Sounds like a build up of 'stress and tension' due to the coming event, I would suggest a crash course in 'meditation'

As my testosterone went back into action, I did get pretty grumpy, and for the most part stayed away from people if I could.  I had a fender bender accident because I got mad at one driver, and banged another one. UGHH!

Meditaion would be one idea, but I did mine with a pot of herb tea to help.  Chamomile or Mints were my favorites, another girl I met in the hospital had used hot chocolate.  Do not use coffee or strong sugary energy drinks or you will have to be pried off the ceiling.

I took multiple time outs so I could slow down and breathe...  I didn't avoid the energy drinks, and they did seem to have made me go a million miles an hour when I had one.... you could try some meletonin, to help with the effects. ;)

calico is right. what i did was take long walks by myself around the neighborhood. it was really relaxing. but im not sure you might live in a city where they dont have the quiet, in that case i would say walk on a treadmill with some good music, yoga or a spin class

I've been trying to do a bit of meditation.. but I find that I actually have to keep walking away from people and things ..

Only those who are closest to me have been able to stand me and my recent outbursts..  and  the walking away is barely working..
somehow it keeps going where they literally follow me and ask things like "what did you mean by THAT?"

just not good.. I can't seem to keep control of how sharp my tongue is.. and by the time I realize.. I've already said something..

I'm just trying to manage for 2 more weeks.. but I'm not sure I'll have many friends left by then if I can't get a grip on this :P

What I didn with my friends is I told them I had some issues and some of my routine medications had to be stopped, and asked them/told them that it "may" effect my mood and emotions and to please not hold it against me if I were to say or do something offensive.
I know at times some of them were like what was that all about.... and I would remind them and walk away quitely :-X

Use this place as your blasting zone.  We can take it and we understand what you are up against.  Good wishes for what is ahead.

Kia Ora SoShy,

I'm not sure of your living arrangement, but if you can find a quiet spot-say for example your bedroom and allow your'self' five minutes to just focus upon your breath, you can count In=1 Out=2 up to ten then start again, and if your mind wanders just gently bring it back and start counting from the beginning again...

Or another way it the RAINBOW approach, most people like  RAINBOWS , so if you can imagine/see everyone that you meet as a  RAINBOW, there's less chance of snapping at them...I know it sounds weird, but for some people with anger problems it seems to work for them...

Truth is, I didn't have any real change in my psyche other than the fact that I was so close to my surgery date, which made me all kinds of distracted.

Whatever you're feeling, it'll be over soon enough and faster than you can believe. Don't sweat it, don't eat too much and remember to smile at least once a day.

What if you just don't stop HRT before your surgery? Could it be THAT bad?

Well the worst that could possibly happen is that you'd die from a blood clot. I suppose it's up to you whether you'd consider it "that bad".

What if you just don't stop HRT before your surgery? Could it be THAT bad? When I went for FFS I only stopped HRT for 4 days prior... as opposed to the two weeks that the Dr. recomended.
When I go for SRS they want me tos top for 3 weeks before. I don't think this is going to happen...

I've heard that eating food containing lots of omega 3 fat thins the blood..

My gender specialist recommends an injection of CA that lasts for 4 weeks. This is permitted as it doesn't increase the chance of DVT. That still means no E, but better than letting T run riot again.

Although I'm sure I wouldn't advise any medication stuff here, and I'm not saying I did this before my SRS, but since the sole risk as I understand it was the estrogen increasing the clotting factor from surgery and/or lying around so much, and it takes a week to get fully out of your system, I could have gotten off my sublingual E one week before flying, and not gotten off my anti androgens at all until two days before. Anti androgens are not needed after obviously (tho there may be some ramp up of adrenal T as I understand it for a few weeks to months after), and E is banned for about 3 weeks after in my case. Anyway, that's what I would have done. Had I thought of it.

+1 yep it is a definate possibility also if you have to fly long distances than its even worse.... There are some situations that after surgery they will allow you to go back on E but a different form than oral,I wont discuss this here, but I was one of thevery few allowed to do so as my health was at risk..

Another nasty related item is that the doctor could read your current blood levels of hormones, and decide not to operate.  My surgeon allowed a certain low level of E up to and only skipping the day of surgery and after surgery.  I was given a hormone level check the day before my surgery, so fibbing would not have worked.  Had I been showing the wrong stuff, I would have been sent home.

The only noticeable effect for me has been headaches. Not fun, but I suppose it could be worse. No mood swings or anything like that.

well.. here I am.. I go in today.. but HOLY.. I've had a rollercoaster ride with my emotions.. between nervousness and excitement I've managed to keep things from going nuclear with some of the people that are suffering from lack of brain cell activity..  but the biggest part has to be walking away from people and things going on.. I simply took a step back and took a look at things.. if it didn't NEED me to get involved.. I stayed out and away from it..

a little calloused maybe.. but I couldn't afford stressing out.. and all the problems that could come with that.. migraines.. blood pressure are just 2 that I can think of immediately that would cancel everything.. anyway.. time to go get breakfast...  thank you all for the advice.. it has helped me find a way to manage for myself...
