I went to the mall with a girl friend today. I thought I'd be totally nervous but it wasn't as nerve-wracking as I anticipated.
We went to the Nordstrom first for some white eyeliner. "Do you ladies need help with anything?" a lady there asked. I was like ^^; because I wasn't sure if she was just being nice or what.
We made our way to Sephora next for a palette, powder, and concealer. Again, we were addressed as ladies by all the women and the VERY gay guys working there. :P
Last stop was payless for some flats for a cosplay I'll be wearing next weekend.
I wasn't gendered as a male by anyone, but the cynic inside me says "yeah, somebody in girl clothes with boobs and makeup obviously wants to be called a girl so they're just being nice."
But, my female friend said "They all totally thought you were a chick. I doubt they were trying to be nice."
Confidence boost for sure, as I know I can go out in 100% girl attire and not be beaten up. Still cynical and I know I shouldn't be.. but.. :P
By the way, this crap's FREAKING EXPENSIVE

Yup. Make up is expensive. I would never think your a guy. U look very much like a normal girl
Congrats! Nothing more to ever worry about! :D
I hope I look that good at 7 months.
And yes, to echo everyone else, my God is makeup expensive. I think I paid upwards of fifty bucks for a foundation, a remover, and a brush at one point.

I cleared $40 on Friday myself. Just on foundation and eyebrow fill.
In my experience, wondering if someone is being nice or if they didn't clock you is quite stressful because you can't know. So I would encourage you, or anyone, to celebrate that you and your gender identity was respected.
I'm glad you had a good day! And a good haul!
$100 or so for Murad anti-aging facial creams.
Congratulations!
Hideyoshi is a darling young woman, she should never have any trouble not being maam'ed!
I had once gone to Macy's and let a Clinique saleswoman make up my face and bought about $160 worth of makeup. I finally came to the conclusion that they are in the business of selling makeup and I actually found that I only used a small amount of what I bought because sometimes less is best. Eventually most of it wound up in the trash. It's important to note that makeup kits are petrie dishes for a lot of nasty germs and most of that stuff should be replaced periodically, especially those items that are worn in close proximity to your eyes.

Hideyoshi, you'll never know for sure. The best that will happen is that you will know that, passing or no, you're beautiful and feminine (but like all human beings, imperfect). Once you're sure of that, the world will be yours and the rest won't matter.
Keep having fun!
Can I ask what palette that is? I really like the colors.

I just wanted to make sure to get the good stuff the first time around and not waste money. Hopefully that was the right thing to do.

Fine words. Still questioning their honesty, but I agree that it was good that they gendered me correctly. Well, the guy in Payless said 'hey guys' to me and my friend when we walked up to the counter, which, after an hour of being gendered female, ACTUALLY FELT WEIRD FOR THE FIRST TIME. It was amazing. But that's just our misogynistic language at work :P

Thanks! I only bought what I really needed. Eye makeup, concealer, and powder. I already had the foundation which I bought a couple years ago.

Well i didn't buy anything i didn't already want and i didn't talk to any sales people because i don't have my voice down. I got the stuff that my friend had been using on me so i could replicate the look without her having to do it.

practice voice will come, make up wise again practice, i looked like a clown the first time now ive got the hang of it, i also say foundation is important. i stick with revlon for it as i fo through a lot of it. about a jar every two to three months, one month here lately since twice now my jars have opened and spilled out in my make up bag and purse, but find out what works best for you there is only so long of one style before yoou get tired best to use your friends make up as a base and then twist and modify it for you. Rome wasnt built i a day,. Again for voice practice, i know because i just started trying to focus on my voice last week, tired of staying silent when i go into places because of my voice i want to talk.

Looks are about first contact, their initial reaction. Presentation changes their mind or seals the deal. So i completely agree.

I agree that makeup is just a tool in making someone prettier and that doesn't equal pass, but I don't really understand how believing you are a woman will convince people. I don't really want to have to convince people, but maybe I'm just not seeing the connection or something. I think along with voice, that if you look and talk like a woman, people will think you're a woman. I think looks are more important than voice but if you naturally look feminine then you probably don't have a deep voice.
This has been my experience.(I'm not saying you shouldn't have to practice voice; it's one of the top things on my list.)
But if you don't look the part, this has nothing to do with makeup, you will not pass. I don't really get the whole confidence thing in helping you pass. I mean often times I can walk around and shop or whatever and people are going to assume that I'm either a man or a woman. Now if I act really masculine and talk like a guy, yeah they will start to think trans, but this has more to do with mannerisms that are probably deeply ingrained. I don't know maybe I'm missing something and I'm really not trying to be insulting or anything, I really want to understand cause I'm interested in anything that helps.

This
If I walk around with a goatee, no matter how confident I am, gonna be gendered a guy.
For me, passing brings confidence. Not passing diminishes confidence.

yeah but be serious you aren't going to go around like the bearded lady I hope... so, then if you show up with a goatee i applaud your sense of strength, but I wont fault the people that give you a hard time either.
