I'm growing my hair out and I've noticed hair that I comb behind my ears (that would otherwise overlap them) and hair that is beginning to touch the back of my neck is getting all bumped and curled and sticking out in awkward places that is impossible to keep down with a comb. What do you ladies suggest to deal with this?
I have quite curly hair and just straighten it (If there's still bits that stick up then i use a little mouse or hair spray on it too)
Heh, mine is doing this too :). Learn to love it? I know it looks unkept and otherwise not the best, but it's only temporary.
Katrina, it's just a phase that I at least just endure. Haven't figure out anything that would help, other than ponytail which I don't like to use. Doesn't take long for the hair to go past that point, where it really seems to be all over the place :D
Once it starts to reach shoulders it seems to straighten out.
Love it! It's just a short while, then it'll be long enough to not do crazy curls and wing-dings.
Use the hair gel to keep it in place? Thats my solution now, but I dont have much in the terms of length yet, though I am starting to get that mentioned untidy/unkept look - fixing it in its place helps a bit.
I use straighteners and hairspray. Kinda works but not perfectly.
My hair is sort of in this stage as well. It is REALLY annoying. Even with products, it still curls all over. I think I am going to need to learn better about styling hair that is in mid growth phase.
However, to the op, there is hope. I went through this last time I grew my hair out and it did get better as it became long. Believe me, if my hair can improve, I have to imagine yours will be fine.
For now, you can try using some product to calm it. My hair tends to get dry and becomes curly as a result. Moisturizing your hair can be a big improvement. You can try a straighter, but be careful. They have a tendency to damage your hair and ruin your future hair growth. But if used right, you can minimize the damage. If you go down this route, get a more expensive brand with ceramic plates. And always use protective hair serum while straightening.
My natural hair is also very curly, Goldilocks/Shirley Temple sort of curly. For work, I tie it back but otherwise there are terrific care products for curly hair. I suggest trying out the Redken "Fresh Curls" product range which works really well for me. Almost life changing... :)

I'm taking the "learn to like it" approach. My plan is to put up with it for another few weeks before getting my hair trimmed so it looks nice for a friend's wedding.
Yea girls....
That Is a stage when getting hair below the shoulders...
It curls coz there isn't enough weight pulling it down...
Instead it rests on the back of the neck....
When past shoulders...it will straighten out...
When my hair was doing that and i had to leave the house i just pulled a bandana over my head or if it was cooler out i kept my hood on my head as much as possible. Yes it sucks but it helps.
my hair did that alot , but I also learned not to wash it often. I can last 4 days before it needs to be washed.
