Title: How women see themselves,
Post by: Michelle G on April 18, 2013, 03:08:07 PM

This is a "must watch" for us,

Forensic artist draws how women see themselves vs. how others see them.

Very nice, thank you for posting that. After a day when all the mirrors in the world had ganged up on me I needed that.

Rosie. X.

I watched this the other day, and it was really moving. It totally made me tear up...

...But then I started getting all analytical and thinking about how social pressures would interfere with people's reporting of their actual mental representation of themselves/the other person, so it isn't necessarily showing how women actually feel about themselves/how the others actually think of them. And then, about how you could possibly do that kind of experiment. This is why grad students don't have a lot of friends.  ::)

It's a really cool ad, makes you feel better, don't know if I'd buy the soap, though. Hugs, Devlyn

OK, where is the 'what is the last thing that made you cry' thread.
It's so easy to beat up on yourself, because to my own self, I am defenceless.

All I can think about is how they are probably actors and the entire thing is scripted by Dove for advertising ~_~

I know so many beautiful women that are so very hard on themselves with how they think they look.

It seems the more attractive women and girls are the more critical they are with body image.

One thing we here truly have in common with our GG sisters

Once we transition and leave the T baggage behind we start to see ourselves as other women do,  i.e. critically.  You don't have to be a super model, just an average normal women.  I've been struggling with body image now for years since transition.  Having lost a heap of weight in the last 6 months I still look in the mirror and go ewwwww, seeing all my 'faults' and comparing myself to other women.  Admittedly some days are better than others, but really this goes with the territory.  I blame advertising and the media in general for how they portray women.
