Last week during the Nevada debate on gay marriage state Senator Kelvin Atkinson (D-Las Vegas) came out as being gay on the floor. In an emotional speech, Atkinson described how he felt about what others have said during the debate, and his father's interracial marriage that would have been banned years earlier, to the surprise of his colleagues.

"The Nevada Senate went on to vote 12-9 in favor of sending SJR13, an amendment to the Nevada Constitution requiring the recognition of all marriages regardless of gender, to the full assembly."
