Post by: Angélique LaCava on April 26, 2013, 12:53:21 AM
ok well im 5'7 , weigh 125 lbs, my measurments are 32"25"35" and im barely fitting in the size 0 shorts,skirts,dresses,and jeans that i have and they are so tight even now and im not on hormones.  i can fit in a size 5 very confortably without any tightness what so ever or loseness but i dont want to be a size 5 i want to be a size 0.   anyway  am i waisting my money on all these cloths im buying since im not on hormones yet and dont know how big my hips are going to get?

Well, first of all, you have beautiful numbers in terms of height, weight, etc. There is nothing wrong or undesirable about being any size, but especially anything under a 10 is SUPERB.

If you try to force yourself into a size 0, you're probably going to do it by starving yourself or binging and purging...neither of which are healthy.

Please, accept your bone structure (with a normal amount of flesh) makes you a 5, and YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! Yes, HRT will change some measurements, but hips don't change all that much. I'd recommend buying only a few clothes, enough to maintain your situation, until you've been on HRT for a bit, and then see how much (if any) changes in clothing size are needed.

But do it in a healthy, loving way. Don't hate a size for its number, love yourself as you are.

I don't know if that bust is with or without much padding at your bust, if it isn't you'll probably get bigger there. Hips might get bigger too, but you might have to gain weight for that, or maybe if you lose muscle it'll turn into fat?
I get the "I want to be a size x", but it's actually just a number... try to forget that number and find clothes that fit you instead.
I don't want to sound bitter and insensitive, but... In reality you are the size your measurement are, even if you wear a smaller size you're still your real size, so whatever clothing size you wear won't change your real size. Size 5 is really not big anyway, it's fine, you're not huge.
But anyway, I understand your thinking with those numbers and measurements, but it's just a number. Get the cloths that fit you, and try to stop thinking that this number will make you less valuable.

Besides, I don't quite know US sizes, but isn't a size 0 the same as size 4 sometimes, so you're basically 1 sizing off? Isn't that even within your measurements?
i wear a 32"A bra so im little confused. will hormones make my rib cage wider or something? cause i thought it only would make my boobs bigger and my ribcage would stay the same.

Bras have two measurements: Band size (32 in your case), which is the measurement across the ribs (sometimes over, and sometimes under, the actual boobs), and cup size, which is the measurement "across the fullest part of the boobs (called "the bust" in polite circles)."

HRT should have no effect on the band size.

The difference between the band size and "the fullest part" size = cup size.

If your band is 32, and your "fullest part" measurement is (for example) 35, the difference is 3"...which is roughly a C cup. (Since you are an "A", that would mean your "fullest part" measurement is 33".)

1" = A
2" = B
3" = C
4" = D
10" = S (for "silicon" LOL)

But don't trust the label on bras. They are the most INSANE things in terms of sizing...

I'm 32 at 5 ft 11 and have a 4 inch extra above rib cage..

So 32a will serve you a long time...

 Well, I don't know what your income is like, but there's a fairly good chance that many of your clothes will cease to fit you once you've been on hormones for a while.

However, if you're skinny enough... you will probably still be able to fit into those clothes. This, of course, means that hormones won't be doing much to your body - you can either change or not change, and changing means your clothes may not fit.

I will note that being a size zero at your height and weight is unhealthy. Even I have a hard time fitting into zeroes at times, and I am substantially smaller than you - my weight at my height is unhealthy, and unsightly. It does not look or feel good to be this skinny. I suggest that you learn to be happy with a normal size, because size zeroes were made for vampires and skeletons. Not pretty girls.

For your natural height, it would be very hard for you to comfortably fit into a zero while still maintaining a healthy weight.  There's nothing wrong with being thin or wanting to be thin, but you also need to take your health into account.  I'm about the same height and quite a bit heavier, but people always comment on how thin I am, even though when I wore women's clothing, I generally wore an 8... I could squeeze into a 6, but I've never liked tight clothing *being FTM I don't like to show off my womanly figure >.<*

As for whether you should buy women's clothing before you transition, only you can answer that.  Do you have money for it?  Do you mind the possibility of having to buy more later?  No one can tell you what you can or can't wear.  If you're more comfortable in women's clothing, then please wear them.  If you want, there are even fake breast forms that you could wear inside your shirt so that if you end up with a similar size after top surgery, the shirts will still fit.

I recall in an earlier topic, Angelique was advised to put on a little weight, if she wished to have fuller hips and larger breasts.

Skinny ciswomen often do not form these attributes.

I also know of several MtF girls who began to split out their older "boys" surfing shorts, when the hormones kicked in.

So, my suggestion is to let your body develop for a couple of years before you make a big investment in clothes.

Yes, I think it's good to start and wear girls clothes. My boyfriend has been dressing as a girl as often as possible and has not yet started hormones. It's great to see her dressed and makes her very happy. That's the important issue..whatever makes you happy! Good luck

This Wednesday I was wearing a T shirt that I bought before starting hormone, and a girl friend in the lab pointed out that it has become much looser, even though I was wearing padded bra. I am 3 months on hormone.

If you're anything like me or most other girls... you will find it hard, if not impossible not to buy new clothes. Go shop. Do it. But as others have mentioned, don't go too crazy, as your body changes, you may need to buy new clothes... some bigger, some smaller depending how your body changes.

Heck yes you should go shopping! You'll probably revamp your whole wardrobe a few times in the next (insert arbitrary length of time here). But buying new clothes will boost your self-esteem, and give you an idea of what you do/don't like for the future.

I completely agree with this.  Don't spend too much money, but go out and buy things you want.  Transitioning is hard enough as it is, we should be able to have some fun to.

I wouldn't invest any large amounts of money into your wardrobe until you have been on HRT for around 6 months. What I did in my beginning months is I bought a handful of light used clothes off of ebay in "lots" and "mixed sets".

Like these two for example:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Junior-lot-of-18-size-M-L-tops-size-4-5-pants-J-4-/200918596405?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec7ae7b35 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Junior-lot-of-18-size-M-L-tops-size-4-5-pants-J-4-/200918596405?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec7ae7b35)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HUGE-LOT-14-Womens-Tops-Shirts-Tanks-Size-Small-NICE-/111056213807?pt=US_CSA_WC_Shirts_Tops&hash=item19db77572f (http://www.ebay.com/itm/HUGE-LOT-14-Womens-Tops-Shirts-Tanks-Size-Small-NICE-/111056213807?pt=US_CSA_WC_Shirts_Tops&hash=item19db77572f)

It gives you a good full set and some options to wear without putting a huge dent in your pocket book.

No problem. Just giving you a idea. I don't like used clothes either but hate wasting money. Since then though I've spent well over $2,500 in my closet so I know the addiction when it comes to clothes. haha.. :D

The clothes I did buy though pre hrt don't fit anymore. Went from a size 10 to a size 4. Some bottoms I'm a size 2.

Sure but don't go too crazy. Money can be an issue, so watch you wallet. The clearance section in real stores and online sales can be your friend. I currently wear size 11 and large stuff but I am 6'1", 180 lbs, and have a 38 chest due to a protruding sternum. My feet are just a little too big for buying shoes in real stores (12W) so I use the internet either amazon or ebay.

Clearance is your friend! When I got started, I bought from the clearance sections of clothing stores and got some really good deals, and I've even been able to make some of those clothes work with the way my style has evolved. Like others have said, you'll probably find yourself buying new clothes periodically anyway.
And you never know how HRT will change you. I started HRT when I was 30 and I expected next to no body changes, and I have crazy hips and booty now. lol

I like consignment stores, I have gotten some good brands really cheap so far... even can find designer labels on the cheap.

I'll have to try some of those. There should be tons around my area. Thanks. :)
