Hey guys so im about 6.5 months on T, and a few months post op but I am extremely self concious about my hips. They haven't started changing from the T and I feel it will be a good while before the T starts to make them more narrow. Im fairly lucky with my body type being tall and skinny with no butt but my hips are definetly curvy and I HATE it.
I live on campus and only a minute bike ride from the gym so want to start working out to lose hipfat. I'm wondering if any of you guys can suggest a workout routine you know of to lose hip fat for transmen??
For the first 6 months on T i was only on a half dose and now finally on the full dose, so I'm hoping that will make it easier.
I really love wearing tank tops but it also makes me feel self concious cuz it makes my hips more noticeable and I feel no matter what pants I wear they are still so girly looking.
Any advice??? Thanks
Edited dosages.
There is none.
Work your core to make your waist wider, and work on your upper arms to make your shoulders appear larger. This will make your hips seem smaller.
Easy now, let's review the rules:
8. The discussion of hormone replacement therapy(HRT) and it's medications are permitted, with the following limitations:
A. You may not advocate for or against a specific medication or combinations of medication for personal gain. This is strictly prohibited.
B. You may not discuss the means to acquire HRT medications without a prescription. The discussion of self medication without a doctors supervision is prohibited.
C. The discussion of recommended or actual dosages is strongly discouraged to prevent information obtained on this site from being used to self medicate.
We can not in good conscience condone the self administering of these medications. Not only may self medication be illegal, but HRT medications can cause serious health problems, and many have the potential for life-threatening side effects that can only be detected and prevented with proper medical supervision.
I've heard that exercising your thighs helps burn calories faster since the muscles there are some kind of 'power house'. I also second working your core and building up your shoulders.
I think my biggest advice is to work your fat away of your hips, and build muscles of your waist and your upper body as your shoulders and so.
working your upper body is pretty easy as theres many ways to build up muscles there for shoulders and your arms. (its gender wider shoulder your to focus on)
your waist is abit more difficult, I have heard the best advice for that is running.
you can easy find exersice by seaching on google or youtube and writting something how to gain upper body mucles, how to lose fat on hips bla bla.
also if you have a personal trainer they can help you with that. I think its pretty good to get started.

You know, many male athletes have big, muscular butts. There is not much you can do about the pelvic girdle, as your bones are likely set.
They say 'spot treatment' doesn't work. And since you're skinny, this is likely bone structure not fat. If it is fat, then just regular workout and diet advice applies. Though hip fat is supposed to be hard to lose.
Other than that, I second, third, fourth, or whatever number  saying building up your upper body will help de-emphasize, which is probably all you can do if it's just the way your hip bones are set.
Wide-grip pull ups are great for beefing up your upper body
Although this isn't exactly helpful, I can say that the fat will continue to redistribute so don't worry. :) I noticed it beginning around 6 months, it was what I'd consider to be male pattern around 9 or 10 (and my shoulders broadened that time as well), and a year on T, my pants continue to shrink and my shoulders get bigger, and that's without a lot of work on them or any weight loss or gain. I had a really curvy/feminine frame prior to HRT so if you already have a relatively masculine frame you'll probably benefit even more.
Same as what everyone else is saying. If it's fat, start running around, if it's bone, build up a better core and better shoulders so things appear more triangular.

He has curvy hips. But he looks pretty fit, so what's it matter? I think a long as you are healthy and fit don't worry about it. Everyone's got their weird body quirks, no one is going to think you any less of a man just cause you got a curved waist. If you really want exercise tips, my only suggestion is running.
I would double up and do cardio + strength training. In strength training I would work on upper body and in cardio, work on the core throughout (keep the core in tension) and push it to fat burning levels. Throw some power squats and gluts work in there. I'd aim to even everything out and so the cardio is to lose fat while also adding in some exercise to strengthen the abs (to make the abdominal area wider with muscle) and gluts (to build them up a little) and it would give a straighter shape. Planks will help strengthen core too. If you were to work on gaining muscle and losing fat I think it would be your best bet. While T does cause redistribution of fat, it's way more focused on storing new fat in new place than it is taking fat from old place and moving it. So I'd suggest trying to lose that fat accumulated when internally female and then, all going well, the fat should then gather in the abdominal region instead where you'd gain a more masculine figure. If this doesn't happen for whatever reason, you'll need to talk to your doc about T levels.
Remember, if you're going into training that you have to up your calorie intake and work on getting a decent amount of protein each day to help with muscle development and recovery, best case scenario: pre, during and post workout drinks/shakes. You want to balance this out, not get skinnier. What you lose in fat, you want to gain, and some, in muscle. It's actually impossible, with exercise alone, to target which fat to lose. You just have to work to lose fat in general and it should come off your hips slowly but surely. However, you CAN target muscle development so doing this at the same time to take focus away from hips will help in long run.
You were born female, so no matter what you do, you will always have a wider pelvic girdle than cis men. However, with some muscle building as well as picking the right clothes, you can hide it to the point where you'd never notice. Your hips will likely always have a curve to them, and more so if you stay skinny. Bulking up a little in the thighs > shoulder region will help flatten it out a bit though. If you have more of a small build, like it sounds, you wouldn't even need to bulk up much.
And something else to note. I do an at home workout where this guy leads the workout: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4XlXIgOBFjw/TLEaSO9ny7I/AAAAAAAAAZg/LFMDqlALQYU/s1600/DSC_0043.jpg (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4XlXIgOBFjw/TLEaSO9ny7I/AAAAAAAAAZg/LFMDqlALQYU/s1600/DSC_0043.jpg)
What I notice watching him (especially when he shows exercises from the side) is that he actually has a little bit of a curvy look. I'd even say he looks more curvy in the hips than the girl next to him. But what evens it out and makes it a more masculine curvy figure is with or without the shirt, he's in proportion. The shoulders and arms come into a straighter figure that seems to curve out a little, but he has a muscular butt and quads, so it all looks in proportion and it looks right that there should be a little curve there - and you can use that feature to your benefit!
Good luck!
How to get rid of your hips:
Give them to meeeeee :D :D :D
Lol, sorry. Had to say it.
Yeah there's no such thing as spot reduction for fat, just focus on getting fit in general and they'll look smaller (and like other people have said, building muscle in your upper body will draw attention away from them)
There are a few things you can do with clothing to make them less noticeable, though. Baggy pants are an obvious one, and wearing an open button-down shirt that's long enough to go over your hips a little helps too. Makes your whole body look more square.
