Title: Fun facial recognition software
Post by: Joanna Dark on April 30, 2013, 05:00:53 PM
Browsing thru some old posts I found this app that tells you how masculine or feminine a picture is and how old you look. Obviously, you shouldn't take it as gospel but I thought I'd share it since, well, it's really fun. I was gonna necro the post but decided to just post a new one. Here is the link: http://www.pictriev.com/ (http://www.pictriev.com/)

In my avatar pic it said I'm 97 percent feminine and 17 lol

In my FB profile pic, it said I'm 77 percent feminine and 30. The age was spot on. And I do look pretty andro/femme in it.

And in several pics I took last week in University City, my favorite place and where I plan to go to grad school, it says I look 100 percent feminine and I'm between 24-28. That's odd since I don't think I pass but I'm not really sure. Nobody sir's me anymore. But I'm not ma'amed. But have fun!

Ha is said I was 92% Feminine. Plus very low matches.  So I copied Khloe Kardashian picture and loaded that up... it didn't match the same photo to each other... amazing technology there!  ::)

I didn't have a pic of myself handy, so I tried uploading a pic of Justin Bieber instead.

LOL... I tried a few different pic.s and got between 56%-99% female and placed from a teenager to mid 20's-30's  :D  At least it mostly compared me to female celeb.s

Kinda fun to play with I guess  :D  I feel flattered being someone in their early 50's

Probably some level of jealousy is involved.

Since this is so much fun, and can appeal to FtMs as well, it is going over to "Fun and Games."

A picture from September got me 33% Masculine, 67% Feminine, and 25 years old.

A picture from December got me 39% Masculine, 61% Feminine, and 34 years old.

A picture from a February got me 78% masculine, 22% Feminine, and 24 years old.

A picture from right now got me 27% masculine, 73% Feminine, and 25 years old.

I started transitioning MtF May 2012 and I'm 19 years old right now. I tried to get some pictures in from before or at the start of my transition, but apparently I didn't have a face back then <_<

I find it cool that my age and masculinity skyrocketed around the time I was starting to get stressed out and the doctor started playing with my anti-depressants. But once things evened out, I went back down in age and increased in feminanemome

90% feminine, 24 years old.
I love this thing! :D

Edit: tried one without smile. Says 84% masculine. I hate this thing.

Couple more, mixed results. Apparently I look like Charlotte Gainsborough.

Jealousy, straight up. It'll start a flame war but usually it's because a little effeminate looking "kid" is making more money than they are. Like One Direction or any other boy band before them... :P

Hi friends  :police:

I don't hate Justin Bieber but I'm not a fan of his either, anyway this topic is not about him

If you'd like to start a new topic about your love or hate for Mr. Bieber, that is your prerogative

In the mean time, please stay on topic

Thank you

Edit: on a pic i uploaded without makeup it said i was 95% feminine and 5% masculine and that i was 24.  that was pretty off on the age
lol

So, I thought it would be fun to run my pictures from the other thread that I just started today about my 3.5-month HRT progress through this machine... and, well, here is how each of these natural-faced pictures rated:

-Picture from 5 years prior to transition. Actual Age: 22.
Masculine: 92%, Feminine: 8%, Age: 44 (GASP!!! :'()

-Picture from 2.5 years before transition. Actual Age: 25.
Masculine: 95%, Feminine: 5%, Age: 24 (there we go... that's better. :) )

-Picture from very first day of HRT. Actual Age: 27.
Masculine: 93%, Feminine: 7%, Age: 30

-Week 2 of HRT.
Masculine: 92%, Feminine: 8%, Age: 20

-Week 4 of HRT.
Masculine: 45%, Feminine: 55%, Age: 24

-Week 6 of HRT.
Masculine: 47%, Feminine: 53%, Age: 24

-Week 9 of HRT.
Masculine: 19%, Feminine: 81%, Age: 24

-Week 12 of HRT.
Masculine: 49%, Feminine: 51%, Age: 24

-Week 15 of HRT.
Masculine: 41%, Feminine: 59%, Age: 24

-Current picture.
Masculine: 23%, Feminine: 77%, Age: 24

And in this most recent picture, the celebrities that it said I looked the most like were Lakshmi Rai and Kaveri Jha. Um... whatever. I guess I kind of have a similar nose and chin to Kaveri, but that seems a bit odd that it's saying I look like Indian models...

So as a whole, this thing seemed to be relatively accurate. Because before the girly pills did their magic, my face rated as WAY more masculine completely consistently, then started rating at about 50/50 during the early stages of HRT, and now has switched to rating as more feminine. And the age guess pretty much stayed the same the whole way through. There were, however, some very weird outliers, which is why I skipped a couple of the pictures, where that one certain picture from a certain angle produced results that were completely out of left field. So if you really want to get a good general idea, play around with it a bit. Have it take a look at multiple pictures, and see where the majority of the data falls.

I like this program I tried it with a picture with makeup on and it said I was 96% feminine and I was 30. And I tried it with two photos I took this morning on the way to the gym in guy mode I scored and 82% feminine in the first picture and a 86% feminine and it said my age was 24 so since this program says I look ten years younger I now love it!

With my avatar photo I scored 81% masculine, 19 Feminine and 45 years of age.

Not to shabby With the feminine number was higher but at least it thinks I'm 2 years younger than I actually am. So I can live with that.

This is pretty neat. I scored between 47% and 87% feminine with no makeup and pre hrt. It does seem to help if you smile but still, i'm like woohoo. Definitely gonna bookmark this one.

Hmmm... It scored my age exactly right 3 times in a row!!! That gave me a confidence boost the upteen times I just used that :) Essentially told me my face is a little bit more on the androgynous to feminine side rather than masculine (how I thought it was)! Thanks for finding that, it was fun! :)

97% feminine age 23 with a photo I just took and 98% feminine age 24 with my current avatar photo.

My birth age is 29... but my chosen age is 23- so I'd say it's pretty dead on :D

I mean, if you can change your gender presentation can't you change your age too while you're at it?! I think so...

Most recent pic = 99% masculine, 1% feminine and 55 years old

:(

slightly older pic(bout 5 weeks old) = 85% masculine, 16% feminine and 25 years old(two years younger then I am)

Not sure whether to be happy or sad on both accounts?

Where as one of my edited pics that has more hair added aswell as makeup = 1% masculine, 99% feminine and 40 years old.

so my faked pic that was originally taken like 5 or 6 years ago before editing works but makes me older then I am again and I think my face looks more masculine in it more then the first pic.

Guess I can never be satisfied :(

I'm not sure exactly what criteria it measures but not smiling seems to give more masculine results as well as the angle of the picture. Tilt your head back a bit and it  comes back highly masculine mine was up to 97% and the average for twelve pictures was around 55% feminine so ymmv but definitely interesting and fun.

Photo from June got me: 65% Masculine, 35% Feminine and Aged 20. So younger and a little more feminine.

Photo from may with half my face covered by my hair I got: 51% Masculine, 49% Feminine and Aged 13 lol.

Photo from 15 min ago: 99% Masculine, 1% Feminine(still smiling) and Aged 30. Older then I am but not by much, overall a bit disconcerting. :(

I didn't have very good luck with it.  A couple of 1+ year old pictures right when I started had me at 90m/10f and about 10 years too old.  It wouldn't recognize the face in any of my newer photos so I didn't really get anything to compare to.

hhahaha i put in a variety of pictures and got similar results every time.

roughly 90 to 95% masculine to 5-10% feminie and i was 40. with is quite off. i don't have a wrinkle on my face, i have a round face too so i don't see where it pulled that number from, but it was fun.

Oddly, my avatar pic (bald) gets 99% female and a number of correlations to celebrities, but when I send up pics in a wig (which I think helps feminize me), the percentage feminine drops to the 70's and 80's...

I think it may be cluing in on the eyeliner in my avatar pic. ;)

Robin: I think you have a very feminine face in your avatar, actually. I have no idea if this seemingly simple piece of software can actually pick up that you are wearing eyeliner.

Thank you, Alex!  :)

I mentioned that because I sent another pic of myself in male mode (no cosmetics) and the program thought I was 98% male.  I'm not sure what it was picking up on, but I'm guessing cosmetics figure into the algorithm. :)

I have tried with a lot of different pics, from before starting HRT and from all these last three months of HRT.

So far I got a lot of odd results. My age ranged from 20-30 (I'm 26)...nice!

On most of my tries I got something around 60% female, but on some I got 90% male  :-\

It looks like that when I am wearing my glasses the program give me more feminine results. With a pic taken yesterday with my glasses on I got 98% female. Without the glasses I got 64% female.

At least the program says I look alike with Kaley Cuoco (Penny from The Big Bang Theory) lol if I had 10% of her face I would be the happiest girl ever.

There is also a site that can morph your face to a lot of different ages and it can feminise your face, or show you how you would look if you were an El Greco painting. Quite fun!

It's blind... what a change!  I think with a touch of eyeliner or lipstick it would probably peg you at 95-100% female.  From what I've seen it mostly looks for makeup.  :\

Results for me varied significantly through four photos.  The only one in which I was wearing a teensy bit of makeup got 72 percent female and age 24.  I'll take 72 percent for 12 years off my age!  Even the worst of the lot gave me 7 years younger.  I don't really understand how it makes these judgements.

I had been struggling for a while to find a publicly known figure who I could say I looked like.  One of the suggestions by the recognition program was actually really accurate overall.  It said I looked like Samaire Armstrong.  With a little close analysis I've concluded that this is very much how I'll look with a little more progress and some properly done makeup.  She even has a similarly slender figure with small boobs.  I just happen to be almost eight inches taller which means I qualify as a runway model and at 5'5" she doesn't!  Oh ya, and I have green eyes instead of plain ol' brown.

Hah!  I got it up to 86 percent female this time with a more straight-on shot and now it thinks I look like Madonna!!! (NOT!)

I just noticed the thng at the bottom that tells you who you look like. I was just playing with it some more and it told me that I'm similar to a bunch of Asian women, Julie Andrews and Adam Lambert.

I just did that pictriev thing again and boy did I get mixed results mostly good for a change.

Angled shot: 8% masculine, 92% feminine and 20 years old(best result ever)

front on non smiling shot: 47% masculine, 53% feminine and 28 years old(not too bad and spot on age)

semi smiling shot: 50% masculine, 50% feminine and 24 years old(exceptable)

Full(forced) smiling: 79% masculine, 21% feminine and 24 years old(most smiley pic got me the most manly what the hell?)

So smiling I am guyish, not smiling I am more girly is what it is telling me, more reason for me not to smile I guess. Also It seems I am more feminine from the side(tilted) then I am front on.

Oh and the 92% feminine one in comparisons I got compared to of all people a porn star, that is a first. Not offended as she is pretty. lol

Noticed that all the photos i run through either come back 50/50 and correct age, or 80% masculine and i'm between 7-12.... lol

It's strangely a lot of fun uploading different pics :)

With makeup: 90% female (supposed likeness to: Amy Adams, Christina Applegate, Nicole Kidman)

Without makeup: 95% male (supposed likeness to: James McAvoy, Neil Patrick Harris, Brendan Fraser)

Yeah, I think this program is definitely just a bit of fun, as it panders to the ego quite a bit (except for the ages, which were weird and way off).

The brow bone reduction is something I feel I could use, and maybe a bit of jaw reduction. Enhh FFS is never going to happen for me, I have other priorities.

I think maybe their algorithm has more to do with the height of the brows themselves in relation to hairline? There's nothing different about my face from that angle, it certainly can't see the brow reduction.

Also on that tip, holy crap my brows look high in that pic. Wowzers. Thank god the swelling is going away and they are dropping. I was partially afraid I would be stuck like that forever :o

You have a really good heart-shape to your face. A brow reduction would make your cheekbones be even more apparent, but I think the overall shape of your face is great already :)

for the first frame, it gave me 98% fem and 30 years old
middle frame, 100% fem and 35 years old
last frame, 96% fem and 30 years old.

Wow I love your hair Michelle!   Is anybody getting a high percentage match with any celebrity?   I get a very high number with one actress who i don't think i look like but I might be thrown by her being brown/brown/olive skinned, cause she does have my exact nose and maybe other things.  I want to have a celebrity look-alike, but i don't know... Lol

Thanks! I just threw in some red manic panic to make the red pop a bit, it seems to have worked!

For the celebrity thing, I'm getting weird ones. I got 28% Paula Abdul and 38% Leslie Mann. I dont think I look like either of them.

I love the texture!  How did you get it?

On mine, it scored a 98% match of  Bérénice Bejo.  I don't think I look like her tho.  Chin yes, nose yes, mouth maybe, everything else no.

I use a product in it called "Got 2 B Kinky"http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/got-2b-kinky-curling-mousse/ID=prod376015-product (http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/got-2b-kinky-curling-mousse/ID=prod376015-product).
It's a curl enhancing mousse. It's pretty cheap and it's great, not a lot of buildup or anything like that. I didnt even blow dry it. I towel dried, put in some leave-in conditioner let it air dry a bit and then the mousse. When I blow it with the mousse in, it becomes huge!

After submitting a few pics everyday I can say that this site is not very accurate.

Although I realized that recent pics are giving me more feminine results (most of the pics I upload give me 70-90% female). But at the same time, depending on the light exposure, the same pic that was almost 90% female turns into 90% male... o0

This not to say that on one pic, somehow, my door was considered like a face and wow, it was a 80% female door with 30 years old. My door is a woman lol

How can a face detector detects a wooden door as a face and still give you this kind of results?

66% fem and 34% masculine and 30 years old!  :D

I didn't know any of the women it said I resembled, but they were all around 2% matches. I guess I'm uniquely part man and part woman.

It's fun to play with pictriev, but it definitely has some issues. Just changing the light can change the outcome. I've have times when it register 90% feminine and on the all but one of the people I supposedly look like are male. Yet there have been times I only show 20% feminine (and I'm passing 100%) and 80% of the famous people that it says I look like are female. One female name that keeps popping up is Edie Falco. I have noticed that when the age is registering 2-3 years less than my real age, then it shows 60% or more female.
