My mother is supportive of me having GRS; she is, however, not supportive of the surgeon—and the city therefore—that I chose. I chose Dr. Bowers because:
1. I felt that she would be the doctor who would speak with me and answer my questions the most, with like a legitimate concern for my well being.
2. I read good reviews about her and she seemed to be one of the most successful US surgeons.
3. I felt that of all the doctors, she would be most willing to communicate with and assist my primary care physicians with any questions she might have about my aftercare.
4. A book I read about transgender topics had her as the surgeon and the mother of the daughter highly recommended her.
So these are the reasons I chose her, but my mom says that she wishes I would have talked with her about it first. She is not happy with the date I chose because she won't be able to come because of work. She's not happy with the location because she wishes I would have chosen a location closer to home—like Chicago. And she keeps telling me about all these "bad reviews" she read about Dr. Bowers, but I can't seem to find any of these bad reviews.
If anyone here has truly heard something bad about Dr. Bowers, please tell me. And, any advice?

One post-op woman pleaded with me not to have surgery with Bowers after having complications that required revision by another surgeon. Well, her pleas worked. But there's no cast iron guarantees with any surgeon.
Another girl on another forum has complete lack of sensation after going with Bowers.
It's luck or bad luck.
I've heard more bad about Bowers' attitudes than her as a surgeon since the complications can happen to anyone from any surgeon. If I had anything really bad to say about her it would be she's overpriced considering the average outcome (from her).
I haven't heard of any first hand horror stories. I believe I know of the same person on another board who had a loss of sensation postop that Tesla mentioned above. However, I've heard way more positives than negatives in regard to Bowers from her past postop patients. She was on my short list of 3 surgeons when deciding on whom to use for my SRS. Do your homework and search out some of her past patients like I did and talk to them. There are some that post on this very board. She is up there as far as price for US surgeons goes too.
I have a surgery date with Bowers 4/22/14. I picked her as well. Her office lady is a doll. It was either her or McGinn. My original idea was Meltzer here in Scottsdale. My medical being accepted by Bowers really pulled me to her as well as reading some positive reviews.
