Title: First day of Estradiol HRT
Post by: DrBobbi on May 07, 2013, 01:50:30 AM
I was early to my endo today. After an hour of discussing hormone therapy my doctor asked "what are we doing?" Without hesitation I said  estradiol pellets, and a double dose of progesterone, to go please." A few minutes later, and after a couple shots of xylocaine (and a series of off-color Jokes that had me laughing out loud) I got a constant rate supply of estradiol that will last me seven months and a six week supply of progesterone. It was painless, fun, and I even learned a thing, or two on endocrinology from a very experienced physician.

I chose this route of administration because it all, but eliminates the serious side effects of oral estrogen therapy, including pulmonary emboli, MI, and CVA. The constant rate flow is a more natural method that helps avoid the ups and downs seen with oral and injectable administration.

Once outside I immediatly texted my daughter and friends "Mission Accomplished!" I'm 5'11" 160 lbs and I can't wait to see how I turn out...I've been smiling the entire day.

Thanks to all of you for your heartfelt stories.

When did you start feeling the estradiol? I've been told by patients it takes a week, or two. And what did you feel?

Placebo effect straight away.

Tangible effects? Well if I remember correctly (it has been a while) within the first two weeks, loss of erections was almost immediate, but I had low T anyway and E eliminated it very quickly. Emotional happiness is difficult to judge as it is tied up with the joy of taking the step.

Skin, boobs, all of that, certainly I started to feel intense nipple sensitivity within 2-4 weeks. And a training bra/sport bra became a fairly urgent purchase, not for support, but for protection. Goddess the girls are sensitive!

I think my close people noticed emotional changes before I did, again that may be tied up with joy of being me finally.

In a way if you can try not to think about it and let it wash over you.  This may sound silly but the most important phase is to accept yourself and build your confidence. You will need both to face the world and be a happy and content woman. My personal opinion is that woman who don't deal with the fact that life is now totally different and have to accept and grow into it are the ones who struggle.

Love it! Placebo effect in full force, however, given the route of administration, I'm at peace. Anyway, now that I have gone to the dark side, it's time for some cookies.
