I was shopping for pants today with my dad and I noticed that it was really difficult to find male pants that fit. I am not overly curvy (except maybe on top) and I have always seen myself as having pretty straight hips, but none of the guy's pants that I tried on would fit around my hips. The only pants that would fit around my hips were way too long. I am not really fat (maybe somewhat out of shape) so I don't understand this. I don't like to wear loose pants that come up to my belly button, but I've been finding that I can only really fit into pants that do. Does anyone else have this problem? Do you guys have any tips for dealing with it?
Yeup, I have this issue too. Unless, I buy my pants brand new at some place with a large selection, it's VERY hard to find a pair that fit me well (I shop at the thrift store 99% of the time).
Yesterday I was actually looking for shorts and I couldn't find a pair to fit my ass! Literally! My butt is too big for 29s, but too small for 32s and I couldn't find a single 30 =[. I think I'm going to stop working my glutes lol.
My tip would be to shop at JCPennys if you have it in your area. . . I always find jeans that fit me there. I'm just not fond of spending more than $12 on a piece of clothing other than shoes!
Where I'm from, 'pants' are underwear... so the mental picture of shopping for them with your dad was filled with all kinds of awkwardness. ;) I'm guessing we're talking about trousers here.
My advice to you would be to try different retailers. Some retailers only sell standard-length trousers; whereas others have shorter lengths. Men's trousers tend to be sold by waist measurement, but your hips are wider than your waist so measure your hips and use that as the 'waist' measurement. The only slight annoyance is that my hip-to-waist ratio is different than that of the average guy, so my trousers fit my hips but are baggy around the waist.
When I started my transition I spent several days reconning all the men's clothing shops in the various towns & cities I frequent, so that I could figure out who sells what. I'm in the UK (hence the pants/trousers thing) where there are retailers who stock shorter lengths for short guys - because there are quite a few shorter guys around here, I've noticed. I'm lucky to be able to get hold of 32" 'waist' / 30" leg length jeans in several different shops. The waist is also cut shorter to compensate for the shorter torso height of short men.
Another thing that works is buying tracksuit/sweatpants from cheaper, economy retailers. They have elasticated waistlines but they usually shrink in the wash (because they're cheaply made) so they wind up being the right size after the first wash. ;)

I also have trouble finding pants that fit. For some reason, men's pants usually make my hips more obvious that women's pants. Baggy pants are difficult to find. I ended up getting goth pants online and hemming them myself.
I've only actually bought one pair of men's pants before; normally I just buy shorts.
I do have trouble finding a good waist fit sometimes, though. I think I usually wear 30's or 32's? (It's been years since I've bought them.) I don't look forward to having to find a good waist and length fit. :/ Although, in that aspect, I guess I'm glad I'm not too tall. My boy is 6'4" and can almost never find pants that fit his legs when his knees are bent.
I actually had much success today at Macy's. I put high priority in fashion and don't feel comfortable just "passing". I like to look dapper and debonair. Today there was a sale and I managed to buy a nice pair of dress pants, some black skinny jeans, a few button up shirts, a blazer, and a couple bow ties that all fit beautifully and only for 100$.
Men's pants are big trouble yeah. Shirts are easy, and probably my favourite, same goes for vests, or even boxers, but pants are a pain.
I'm not fat (though I have been gaining a bit of weight, which now all hangs obnoxiously on my thighs, arghhh!), but yet I just can't even find one that fits perfectly.
But yeah, I like to have a bit of an alternative style (mix of multiple ones, mainly pagan/hippie mixed with a more 'rock' kind of style), which makes shopping in general harder already :/ usually they don't sell the stuff I'm interested in in most 'normal' stores. :(
Ugh trousers...
I still wear predominantly women's trousers while I try and find either somewhere I can get jeans that fit or I can work out a way to adjust them (I can't sew to save my life). My problems are with hips, thighs and my height. Height wise I'd fit age 11-12 in boys, but hips wise I haven't found anything yet. I'm currently looking for some that are too long but fit on my hips so I can get a friend to adjust them. xD
I hate shopping though so it's taking a long time. :p
I usually get my grandmother to adjust my trousers :laugh:

Haha. I've never been able to figure out whether or not my grandmother genuinely enjoys sewing things up, or just does it because she's a nice person.
I'd vote common problem. I think since I have been on T my pants are getting a little looser. I got my baggy pants as it was what would fit around the waist and hips before.

Eh Im kind of between sizes. 30s are just too small enough to be really uncomfortable and its hard to find 31s but 32s literally fall off me when I'm walking... relative to brand that is (since when are numerical measurements flexible parameters?!)
but otherwise I can't say that I find it an issue. I do, however, really only like baggy pants, so maybe thats why. If I can feel more than half of my pant leg on my leg while I'm standing up they are definitely too tight for my liking.
I am going to be hemming my brothers dress pants (prom is coming up) this week, I'd be happy to show you guys who don't know how to sew.
And yeah, I vote that it is a common problem. I am small (16 in boys) and most jeans show curves. Khakis are bad because my hips make the pockets stick out.
Started wearing men's/boy's trousers/jeans when I was 10 so it hasn't been a big deal for me.
Nope, I wear relaxed cargo jeans/pants/shorts mainly. They don't go up to your belly button unless you pull them up to it. Just wear a belt and slouch them a bit. If you light tight/snug pants I can't help ya there.
