Title: Finally about to see a gender specialist
Post by: Sabrina on May 11, 2013, 12:55:38 PM
It took a little time but I finally made an appointment to see a gender specialist. I am excited at the prospects of officially beginning my trip into the female arena. I plan to discuss my past thru present day and how I came to this conclusion. Its a 2-hour initial appointment then an hour for each appointment thereafter. From what I've read on other posts, I no longer feel as bad being 29-years old. Many seem to have had excellent results despite the age. Of course its different for each person but I remain positive.

I also came out to my sister. She had sneaking suspicions then she asked me point blank about being transgender. I then told her yes and about seeing a specialist. She was very cool with it and told me about a friend of hers who came out as well. I showed her my shoes, pink blankets / sheets for my bed, and some of my clothes. Now I just have to figure out how to tell my parents, friends, and co-workers. I plan on doing the slow and methodical approach slowly integrating things as time goes on. Overall, I cross my fingers hope for the best.

Don't worry about being 29. I'm 30 and I'm getting some super results, I think. Congratulations on coming out and getting started BTW!

Hey Sabrina,

I am very excited for you!  I'm in a similar boat, just a little younger.  I am finally going to start therapy and work on coming out to family.  If you are anything like me, you probably feel a tidal wave of various emotions :)  Awesome start to a whole new beginning.

I am glad you were able to tell your sister and that she was accepting.  I think having a good support structure to rely on is important.  For me, my friends have been so helpful that I would never be able to repay the love they have shown me.  It's great to know you aren't alone in the whole process.  So, I am glad to hear you have someone there for you who is accepting.  I hope you continue to have more positive coming out experiences :)

My first "for real" steps towards taking on the TG demon were a good 3 years ago at the tender young impressionable age of 53. Up untill then I mostly tried to ingore the 800 lb gorilla and feed it some bananas every now and then.

It is never too late to open the cage. It only gets better when you do. However, it will cost you a few gallons of tears and angst. A small price for feeling alive and finally happy being you.

Thank you all for the supporting words. It means the world to me. I actually feel as if this is the way things are suppose to be. I can't wait to see what the future has in store and live as I was meant too. :)
