Congrats, congrats, congrats! I'm having mine just a week after yours, so I know how excited you must be. I forgot whether you said what type of surgery you were having--bilateral mastectomy or keyhole/periareolar? Either way, good luck and may the force be with you!
im having bilateral you?
oh and who is doing yours?
I'm getting the periareolar, so I went with Beverly Fischer. Did you say you were using Brownstein?
nope johnson:)
dr.perry johnson
Hey Jaded and Andrew... you both reference certain Drs who are doing your top surgeries... If I may ask, what general area are ya' all in...? And do you (or anyone out there) know of any good comprehensive listing of recommended Drs for top surgeries?
I'm in Portland OR myself, but could travel some depending on the expertise and price, if it were worth it. Thanks much, and best of success and rapid recovery to you both! :)

Scott, transster.com has pictures of surgical results of different doctors. A lot will depend on your body type. So you want to look for pictures of guys with a similar body type to you. Fischer, for example, is well known for peri for if you are fortunate enough to be small chested, she might be the best for you. Brownstein does an excellent double incision, but his results on fat guys are sometimes less than desirable.
I went to Brownstein for DI, was a little overweight but nothing major, and I'm very happy with my results.
Dennis
Coolness! Thanks for the info Dennis! If your pic is typical of the results, I'd say you made a good choice in Doctors for your op!
I'm probably somewhere in between... not really small chested, but not real heavy OR large chested... Probably leaning more trowards heavy than light though, so I'll defenetly check out the site you gave. Thanks much!!!

Hiya, Scott. I live near Portland, OR, too--maybe we could get together sometime :). I chose to go with someone who was not in my area because I saw Fischer's results on transster. If you're small, she's the world's best--my doctor, who treats a lot of transpeople, confirmed this. If you're big, though, the bilateral with Brownstein might be the best option. Too bad he relocated -- he used to be right here in town!
johnson is allot less expensive and i personaly liked his work better than brownstien a few of my friends went and are going to him .he is in omaha so im flying out there for it .
im in somewhat ok shape so im hoping i wont have dog ears

Hi Jaded,
I think you are missing a bracket from in front of the first [IMG] tag. I just added it to your quote to see if I was right.
Congratulations on the surgery. I'm happy for you.
i guess you got it so yeh i hope i dont have dogs ears
I was about the same body type as you, Jaded and I don't have them. The scars had to go a ways under my arms, but no dog ears and no revisions necessary. I'm sure you'll be fine. DON'T stretch them if you can avoid it - do NOT lift your arms until it doesn't feel tight. My scars are a bit stretched under the arms cause you can't walk around with your arms down for 6 weeks unless you have someone to get every damn thing for you that's above waist height, but try and minimize it.
Dennis
i hope noy im 5'7 and 160lbs so i dont know?
oh yeh i do work out allot so....
I think the key thing for dog ears, other than excess body fat (which you don't have) is whether the manboobs hang too low as well. And I was way older than you when I had it, so I was probably way more at risk. I'm sure you'll be ok. And worst case, a quick revision if necessary. Pretty unlikely that you'd need one. You have age on your side and your body fat percentage is reasonably low. I was 5'5 and 180, although also a fair bit of muscle because of working out and T. I'm now 160 with more muscle, so I clearly had some to lose.
Dennis
wow thank you that helps alot i was really woried about that cause it looks nasty.
yeh yur chest looks good in the pic so happy i can post 1 like that soon

Right on... always good to know more folks in the area! So where are Fischer and Brownstein located respectively...? Ya' say that Johnson is in Omaha, so that gives some options. I've seen the results of a local doc with one transguy here in town, and while I didn't say so, I frankly wasn't that impressed. It could be the guys' natural inclination towards more keloiding, but compared to a lot of top surgeries I've seen, it just didn't seem as good.
I'm of an age that I can probably get the hysterectomy/etc footed by my insurance, but I'm sure the top surgery is coming out of my own pocket, so if I have to travel a little, it'll be worth it.
In terms of current breast size, I'm not sure where I fall, besides middle aged sag. ;) I'm not small, but really not large either, so I'm not sure what technique might be best. Oh well, given the time its going to take to save up the money, I'll have plenty of opportunity to do the research.
Once again, congrats with the upcoming change, and here's to a speedy recovery! 8)
(PS... ok, I give up... what exactly are "dog ears" ...? :-\ Haven't ever heard the term before, sorry. ??? )

Dog ears are little bits of flesh that pooch out from the incision under the armpit. If you get them, you have to get them nipped off in a revision later, but most surgeons will make you wait a year post op in case they resolve themselves.
Brownstein is in San Francisco. Not sure about Fischer.
And it's likely if you have some middle age sag, that your best results are going to be from double incision. Peri really works best on guys who are small chested and young enough that they are still fairly perky. By small chested, I mean A cup and some small B cups if young enough. Peri also often requires revisions, particularly if you tend toward the larger end of the range that you can get a peri in. The downside of DI is of course the scarring, but that'll all depend on how you heal. Other than under my arms, mine aren't particularly visible.

Is there any possibility of some hair growth that might cover some of the scars?
Yeah, I'm getting some hair growth there now, so I figure in a year or two it'll be covered as well. Wonder if I should try Rogaine on my chest.
Dennis
QuoteWonder if I should try Rogaine on my chest.
Hope that's a joke--I've heard of everything from terrible rashes to hair growth in the wrong place if that stuff's used anywhere besides the head!
Been using it on my face for a while and it doesn't seem to be a problem, but I won't be using it on my chest - too hard to control where it ends up unless I can hang around shirtless for hours on end.
