Okay so I've posted on here a few times before but have never disclosed this.
I've been on testosterone 5 months with a prescription that is not mine, I bought it through another trans guy as a last resort when starting college. for 2 years prior I was trying to figure out how to legally obtain hormones without spending a fortune on therapy (I have no income and am in school) I asked my family doctor to make referrals which he never did and instead gave me some speech about how all lesbian couples have a man lesbian and a woman lesbian. He was also unreliable with making other references so I kind of just stopped seeing him altogether. I went through a 6 month waiting list at sherbourne only to find out every bloody doctor they have is booked and I was on the counselling list and was place with a counsellor who admits they don't really have much experience with hormones and hasn't even told me if they are qualified to write me a letter.
I've kind of given up on sherbourne and am debating just calling random doctors and telling them "look I've been self medicating and want to be safe and have this monitored" but I don't even know if they would see me or what would happen. I'm just really fed up and frustrated, theres no information except the same same recycled list of hormones 101 which I'm already aware of after years of research and having been on them. I guess I just really need advice? I don't want to be doing this without monitoring.
A reminder about our HRT policy:
8. The discussion of hormone replacement therapy(HRT) and it's medications are permitted, with the following limitations:
A. You may not advocate for or against a specific medication or combinations of medication for personal gain. This is strictly prohibited.
B. You may not discuss the means to acquire HRT medications without a prescription. The discussion of self medication without a doctors supervision is prohibited.
C. The discussion of recommended or actual dosages is strongly discouraged to prevent information obtained on this site from being used to self medicate.
We can not in good conscience condone the self administering of these medications. Not only may self medication be illegal, but HRT medications can cause serious health problems, and many have the potential for life-threatening side effects that can only be detected and prevented with proper medical supervision.
Just to clarify I am not asking for help illegally obtaining testosterone or about the dosage or brand. I don not condone doing this illegally myself. I need help legally obtaining it.
Just making sure you are aware of our restrictions, hon. Hugs, Devlyn
Thank you both for the advice and for reading.
