Hi there :^)! I'm super new to this place and I wanted to know if you guys can help me out! I'm a transman well on my way to starting HRT but there's a bit of a problem! I've been seeing a Therapist and she's given me the advice to seek out a physician to start HRT! I've found a doctor close to where I live but the only problem is, I don't know what to say to him.
I've never called a physician or even tried to set up an appointment before. Is there a way I could get some help on what to ask him? I guess I'm just really anxious about talking on the phone but I just don't know how to go about asking this man about starting hormones.
I really appreciate your help!
Hello,
Options, options, options...there are so many for you to choose.
1- Find a trans friendly doctor and bring them a letter from your therapist stating that you know the consequences of hrt and you are prepared for the effects. Also, being a copy of WPATH 7, an informed consent form for hrt, and a reliable source on hrt dosages for trans guys. Being prepared is very important as it A) ensures that you won't have to come back again because you didn't have the info/documents, B) makes you look mature and responsible, and C) makes the doctor more comfortable in prescribing hrt.
Always keep in mind there are always exceptions to rules...since rules can be broken.
Or
2- Go to an endocrinologist (possibly with a referral from a GP). And of course, be prepared as in #1.

Is your therapist a psychiatrist? If not, get one. They are your ticket to hormones and surgery.
