Title: My favorite things about being a girl.
Post by: kariann330 on May 21, 2013, 07:28:05 AM
I figured what the hey....lets have a little fun and post 3-5 things that are our favorite things about being a girl.

For me, my favorites are:

1) Heels

2) skirts/dresses

3) showing off a fresh pedi with a pair of flip flops.

4) cute bras and panties, especially when they match.

I really hope everyone has some fun with this one.

It's ok to be emotionally vulnerable.

Being soft is a GOOD thing.

People expect you to be sweet and not surly.

Best thing for me is I'm allowed to be me, happy and stand out or fit in, wear what I feel like and how I want to and no one thinks I'm weird.

I love that my emotions can get the better of me, I love that I can cry, be happy and moody, I love that I'm me.

My few favourite things... Well, this is a toughie. I like being able to express myself the way I do without being thought of as queer, for one. I don't really care for dresses or skirts at this time (I also look awkward in heels), but I love looking feminine/good, even if it's only in my own way (and when I am able to see myself as such). I also like having a feminine voice - speaking with boyvoice made me very unhappy and, as a result, quiet.

Being female hasn't changed me or my life all that much, though. I'm happier with how I am, now, and freer to express myself, but very little else is any different.

Maybe I'm just doing it wrong.

1) Being able to say whatever I want.
2) Being able to wear whatever I want.
3) Being able to get free drinks.
4) Feeling sexy
4) Lingerie! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Realizing I'm on the opposite side of experiences I remember from my awkward male self.

Thin (ish) curvy legs with hip-like things attached. Actually, make that curves in general. So much fun owning a couple.

Purple sheets.

Tossing my hair around. :D

1. That loud, shrill scream like nails on a chalkboard has started to fade.
2. Make-up
3. Hissy fits.

I can't think of anything. I don't wear dresses, I don't paint my nails, I don't wear a bra, I wear makeup but I did that before, I'm emotional but prob less so then before, and the only thing that even comes to mind is that I am happy. But maybe I'd be happy either way. Sometimes I think I am making a huge mistake.

Don't wear makeup often: lesbian, actually hate bra's: take it off as soon as I get home (clothes too)

1) Expressiveness without judgement

2) Being able to talk with out having to just punch someone

3) Breasts

4) having Smooth skin

5) not being hairy anymore

6) Sexy underwear when I can afford it

7) I can cry when I need to, even in public and no one thinks I am a horrible person or "weak"

8) "Girl talk" sharing with freinds

Post by: noleen111 on May 25, 2013, 02:50:43 AM
We have a thread about thing you hate about being a girl.. lets start one.. things you love about being a girl

So here goes.

1. pantyhose.. I love wearing it, i love the feeling of it on my legs, especially when they are freshly shaved. Pantyhose was the first thing i wore when I started crossdressing.
2. A light breeze on my legs when I wear a skirt.. and love it when it blows under your skirt..
3. A nice girly session.. getting my nails done, putting on makeup.
4. Wearing a dress..
5. womans underwear, it feels so much softer then mens and I enjoy wearing a bra..
6. Get to wear high heels shoes, i know a lot women hate this one, but my feet are use to it now, and I can wear them for hours.
7. Being dominated in the bedroom.. Female sexuality is much more passionate and deeper.
8. being treated like a lady, it makes me feel very special
9. Wearing earrings.. I know men also get their ears pierced, but woman have a huge selection of styles/types of earrings.
10, Female friendship is much deeper than a male friendship.
11. Having breasts

What do you girls like?

I like your list as you are so right with everything and brings a smile to my face

I would add Hair in that no disgusting body hair and being able to have long hair, no short back and sides and then loose it all and all the female styles.
Being able to show emotion and not viewed as being weak or worse.
Pantyhose do feel so good now that I have had my legs lasered, no shaving required and silky smooth legs instead of prickly things

So many clothes and shoe options comapared to mens styles.

Love your list Noleen, and can't agree more with Jenny.

For me, Makeup! Love the stuff. If I could wear it all the time I would.
Love black tights and corsets/figure shape wear. Plus all the things that go with being a woman. Ladys have sooo much more choice with clothes etc. Men, bla, crap clothes that are ugly, nothing pretty at all about them, I like pretty clothes and pretty things, just like most women!

I absolutely love my pretty blonde hair now that it's getting longer....something I only could dream about while hiding in boy mode while growing up :)

Skinny jeans or short shorts, painted toenails and a cute tank top while sitting in the morning sun having coffee, glancing over at my reflection in the glass door makes me just smile real big :)

Being able to show my sensitive side more openly than I ever could before.

Hum just wondering but did you follow the washing instructions? A lot of more fashion-forward clothes & fabrics are hand wash or dry clean only.
They were all machine washable and dryable. They were basic, plain, ugly 100 % cotton shirts. And the sweaters were very basic cotton things, as well. Not to mention I didn't need to wash them for them to "shed" all over the place. Just when I came home actually. Just enough for me not to notice at the store~

And honestly, I've machine-washed "hand wash" items a lot before. They did get damaged more quickly. But never nearly THAT quickly. To be honest I think 10-15 washings was an optimistic figure.

I love posing in front of mirrors.

Only on my good days, of course, but... *sigh*

I have to say, I also love just the feeling of existing as a girl. Everything feels so RIGHT, in ways staid old me could only imagine. And thus, I'm overall much happier.

Does being able to serve my brain E, which it has desired for so long, count?

Cliché, but true: shoes. Not heels really (a. too tall for that I feel, and b. currently require shoes I can wear while presenting male as well), but just colourful and original shoes. Am a bit torn by my feet losing half a centimetre in length though, on one hand I get to go buy new shoes, on the other: my wallet...

More generally: clothes (of course ;)); but also being able to act like I feel, and not like what I think people would expect.

I've been thinking about this thread and the reason I don't think I can really answer is that I really don't consider myself a girl. It would be really hard to ask people to call me that and I don't have to ask with strangers but when they say she I get happy but feel like I am being misgendered or tricking people. I guess for lack of a better term I feel like I am a trap. And maybe I am just confusing wanting to be something with actually feeling some way. I mean everybody puts down these things they like like bras and panties and nails and skirts and whatnot. I don't know what this makes me.

Joanna, we experience our transgender in different ways. The dominant narrative ("I always knew I was a woman") just doesn't ring true for some of us. Certainly not for me.

For me I just feel like I really, really, really want to be a woman, not that I am one. For decades I thought that it meant I wasn't trans. Now that I've met a lot of transgender women who feel exactly as I do, many of them happily post-transition, I'm realizing that I fit right in.

This doesn't make you any less female. Well, you know, clothes do not maketh the woman. Bras and panties are utilitarian things. I wear a bra because I have to as I have a heavy bosom. I wear knickers because of hygiene and tucking. I don't wear nail varnish. I may have had more of an attachment to these things in the days of my early discoveries. But those were days of experimentation, like teenage girls going through puberty, trying to find a footing, working out who we are. In fact, certain things actually now make me feel less womanly, even dysphoric, because of the associations they had back in my clubbing days. I feel clothes for me were used as a substitute when I felt nothing tangible about me was feminine. Today, my favourite things have sort of become distilled into just being, feeling, seeing a woman in the mirror. Clothes and stuff take second or third place.

The things I love about being a girl;

-     Shoes, really love the shoes, flats, heels, boots, all of them.
-     Dressing up, I don't get a chance to wear skirts or dresses all that often, but it is nice when I do.
-     Seeing myself in the mirror and increasingly see Jennifer smiling back.
-     Having boobs, they make me feel more me.

I never had a thing for underwear or bras. As I say I wear under wear never thought any different about it same thing for bras though I was happy when I got my boobs done because I did not have to wear padded bras anymore from hormone boobs being so small. I just enjoy being a woman all around.

Ditto. But, I'll also add jeans too. I cannot wait to put on a pair of my Levi jeans when I'm post-op without having to tuck. Which is the bane of my existence at the moment. Tucking destroys the aesthetics.

Joanna I think what you are feeling is a self-esteem issue. Doubting the things you already decided were right for you. Fearing that people will reject you if they know who you really are.

This is def true. And it isn't like I am not sure that this is def what I want. I know I would be better off living this way. Much better off. It's just that I feel like some people will look at me like I am completely insane and be like yeah sure whatever you say. It makes me want to run away and go someplace no one knows me so I never even have to deal with that.

Don't worry so much about others.  Just be you and have with life.  As you know, I have really bad rejection issues and it hurts me to when I think about the possibility that others won't accept me as female.  But, I am female and need to live as one.  From what you say, I'm sure you feel the same.  So, live for you.  Also, clothes, hair, under wear, etc... doesn't make anyone a girl.  It's just something lots of girls share in common, so don't sweat it.  But I understand how you feel reading this thread.  Being in the beginning of my transition it upsets me that I can't go out in a cute dress or wear makeup in public without stares.  I too want to hide and run away from the judgement of others.  However, I have some fear and self confidence to build.  It's better to overcome it than letting it defeat us. After all, it's our life and we deserve to be happy and live for ourselves.  I hope you can find the same conclusion.

As for this thread, I don't have an answer as I'm still pre everything and only out to a few people.  But the greatest thing is I can be myself and feel happy.  Everything else has little to do with my g

That is funny I am, I get chased all the time, not a day goes by I don't get some guy some place some offer.

My problem? I like women!  and with my current physical configuration there is no way a lesbian will ever date me and I don't see a way out of this predicament any time in my future.

I haven't transitioned yet but the things I'm most looking forward to are being treated like a female in public and being comfortable in my own skin. I've always been so self conscious because I never knew how to be a man so I was always really shy and quiet because I was afraid to be myself. I can't wait until I can let my female personality show and not worry about people judging me. Oh and having long beautiful hair too. I used to wear shirts on my head when i was younger trying to pretend lol. I was blessed with thick hair, now I just have to grow it out.

Looks like GM and especially Chrysler are turning it around from what I have heard. That whole "Imported from Detroit." concept paid off I guess. Also, what happens if you have been on hormones for a while and you stop taking them (if you don't mind me asking)?

Well i haven't really noticed many backwards changes....my waist is still higher then normal, i still have the buds but they have softened up a lot and stopped hurting with every single bump. I have noticed the random and morning erections started up again and my sweat stinks again, but all stuff that can be quickly fixed again after 2 months back on hormones.

I don't really enjoy it. For one it's a pain to always forget my evening pill and get back up from bed for it. And it's also disadvantageous to be taking pills, although it's not the only delivery method that has this problem: your hormone levels spike unnaturally throughout the day, and for long periods of time, between pills, it's significantly lower. Not only does this possibly pose an issue with blood tests, but it's also probably not the best for me. Not to mention that in the evening, I often feel the lower hormone levels. And of course, that feeling isn't a good one.

An implant would be dreamy. Although two surgeries a year, however small, to renew it, would be annoying. I wish there were permanent ones. Like, something that would actually produce estrogen from compounds found in blood.

Gonna need the works for that: vulva, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. I wish I had some of those  ;D Of course, even if it was possible which I don't think it ever will be anytime soon or ever, you are going to have to go under the knife for it.

ive been told that a orchi actually causes the body to produce a chemical that converts in just that way, but i haven't ever heard it from a doctor. i will look around to see if i can find confirmation, but it isn't perfect even if it does work.

Joanna, organs wouldn't be necessary. All you'd need would be an implant, put across blood circulation (as in, the blood goes through it somehow), that contains the enzyme(s) used by ovaries to create estradiol. The chemical reaction would do itself just like it does in natural organs, wouldn't it? Now, add a little micro-computer, powered by body heat, that would check current blood levels and adjust output accordingly, and you have your perfect implant. It's probably even possible with current capabilities, with a lot of research and development. But trans people aren't important enough for that.

There are people other than trans people who could benefit from it though right? Menopausal women for example.

Not to mention women who have had a full hysterectomy or even had there ovaries fail after a partial, women who have had.ovarian cancer, the list can go on. Thing i have noticed is a LARGE majority of surgeries, pills etc. that make our transition possible weren't even thought of so that we could transition but were originally developed for cis gendered females but later adapted for us.

Ok, I finally found the chemical I referenced in my earlier post. It is called aromatase, and its primary function is converting testosterone into estrogen. I have a more in depth explanation, but I'll spare you all the medical babble.

The thing is that an orchiectomy causes the body to produce noticeably higher amounts of aromatase.

     1. Finally being able to have my body match my soul, the soul and spirit of a woman!
     2. Knowing when I'm alone or in a crowd, I no longer have to act as if I'm something or someone I'm not and have never been.
     3. Having my guy look into the mind and soul of a woman when he makes love to me.
     4. Wearing a real smile!
     5. Wearing dresses
     6. Wearing makeup
     7. Wearing lingerie
     8. Wearing heels
     9. Having doors opened for me wherever I go.
   10. Kissing with the passion I've always had but felt sooo self conscious about when I actually did it.
   11. Having guys look at me the way I want them to
   12. Having smooth skin
   13. Having breasts
   14. Having hips and a butt
   15. Being able to cry without feeling self conscious
   16. Being able to wear what I want when I want to wear it.
   17. Being able to play with makeup

I could go on and on about all the wonderful things I'm experiencing all the time now. God bless all of you wonderful, beautiful women! Hugs, Miranda

One of the nice things about being a girl is you can justify making short cutoffs out of a pair of $200 designer jeans that were an inch too short to look cute as long jeans.  :)

Oh yeah, simple pleasure. My mother doesn't say I look retarded for bending my wrists anymore. Seriously, I didn't know it was SUCH a girl's thing.
Neither did I till one of my close friends told me I sometimes bent my wrists like a girl and went down steps like one too. Soon after that I told him I was transsexual. I was 14.

there is so much I enjoy about being/becoming a girl. heres a short list off the top of my head.

* massively increased wardrobe options
* skirts! love em so much.
* shoes. so many options now.
*makeup and painted nails.
*jewelry
*lingere and stockings. love the feel and look of lacy clothes for sexy time. albeit, Im transitioning single. no need to confuse things and bring someone else along for the ride.
* being able to wear clothes that compliment my body and show it off without being lewd.
* no longer feeling like I was born a guy so this is who I HAVE to be. being a girly guy sorta sucks unless being gender ambiguous is something one takes pride in. for me, it just made things harder.
* projecting the softer, prettier, sensitive, and more genuine side of myself to the world. really the best part of transitioning to female.
* finally I can fulfill the proper role for myself in sexual situations and relationships.
* being pretty. I love to beautify myself. what can I say :P
*anticipation of breasts, hips, rounder features, etc... for most of my life, the things I loved about my appearance seemed to be an embarrassment as a guy. now those aspects of me are my assets.  Im very excited and happy with the process of feminizing myself.
*increased access to healthcare. strange but my options and those that wish to help me are so much more accessible now. thx largely to my therapist and the TG initiative here in Buffalo.
* like others, I also look forward to having doors opened for me, glances from strangers on the street, etc...
* last but not least, being called "her" or "she" love it!

I love putting on and wearing makeup.
I love that my jeans no longer have pockets.
I love how that means I get to carry a purse around.
I love how many more different types of clothing there are for girls.
I love the feeling of having shaven legs.
I love using girly body language and posture.
And so much more! :D

Fav things about being a girl eh.

Well I can only say what amuses me I suppose.

It's nice being able to cry and not need to care.

I would rather smell pretty and have everything in common with the smell of fresh laundry, than the usual for most men being sweaty and yucky. And it tends to make my clothes smell fresher longer as a result of smelling nicer longer myself.

I like purses because I don't drive a car eh, I need somewhere to actually put my stuff. It's nice not needing to get defensive and call it something utterly silly like a man bag.

I can eat really silly girlie drinks, enjoy really cute ice desserts and not need to worry about looking tough.

There isn't any domestic chore I need to fret over being 'woman's work'. And I can take a pass on all the really brutish smelly messy yucky jobs that are best left for a man :)

Being a woman, I get to be right, and I get to ask directions and then actually not get lost because I was positive I knew where I was going :)

Yeah people make a fuss over 'but men can do that too' as it needs reinforcement from society to permit it, while no one cares if a woman does those things thanks to the same bias.

If you call yourself a househusband it comes off as defensive, whereas, claiming to be a housewife means nothing at all.

Not being shunted into the guys half of a party and having to listen to all that boasting and surfing, sport, motorbike and finance crap whilst the girls chat about stuff that interests me a few meters away.    Like bitching.  And gossip.

Cheesecake pin up style, burlesque and rockabilly clothing choices.

Being able to browse the lesbian book section without getting ->-bleeped-<-ty glares from girls for dirtying up their sacred space with your man germs.

A silly little one... wearing your bath towel wrapped around your body rather than your waist at the beach.  Its warmer and feels nicer.

Not sure why housewives are so frequently maligned. Making sure the home is warm, welcoming, and loving is a noble profession. My mother was a housewife for seven years to make sure that my sister and I got a great start on life. I'm grateful.

It's my age my upbringing. Women were conditioned to think that a career was something for women unlucky enough to get to be housewives.

It's not an easy thing being a housewife. The hours are horrible, no benefits and it's just you no coworker when you are sick. The pay is lousy....wait some get paid? I've never gotten paid!

But, well I suppose life has told me, if you don't want to be a housewife, well tough :)

I am not sure how my wife would treat this matter, but I know this much, SHE is no housewife :) She's not my husband, but, well she does a fair approximation hehe.

I'm ok being a housewife. Never expected to be one, but hey life never asks us what we want to be, and routinely refuses to listen to what we want to be as well. I'm just glad I am a damned good one.

My mom laments not finishing with college or something, often laments not working more, but, as I see it and I have told her many times, she aced being a mom, and I think she profited from it by producing great kids. Ok so I am one of them :) but I think she did great with my brother and sister too.

I believe that the best partnerships are between equals, and the idea of one person taking on a job as mundane as "keeping a house" doesn't line up with my idea of an ideal relationship. Why not pay someone to do the housekeeping and spend your time doing something more worthwhile / productive? Anyone can clean, that's why it's so cheap to hire a housekeeper or a janitor. With children, staying at home can perhaps be a little more justified, but I would say only for the early formative years of the children, and even then.. get a nanny?

I'm not sure why housewives are maligned ether,, but you describe it well, I married my husband 3years ago, so I suppose I'm a housewife or homemaker or whatever, I do hate when sales people want to chat with my husband when they discover I'm a housewife, but that's another story.

I'll second purses - not only do they give you so much space to carry things, they make a wonderful place to rest your arm.

Also necklaces - after one navigates the clasp-fastening, they add a wonderful spark of color to one's appearance.

I'll probably also love earrings once I get my ears pierced.

I WANT to get my ears pierced.

Ok actually the idea of poking holes in my ear lobes worries me too :)

But, for those wishing to use their earrings that are pierced types, before their ears are pierced, or even after, try this (I do it all the time).

Put them on your shirt collar. They look equally pretty flanking your necklace. They might even look like they belong there.

Maybe a little nose stud.

This. It's not really about boots, makeup, clothes, dress, pink, glitter, lingerie, nails, hair, whatever. That is all superficial stuff. And it surely isn't what matters at the end of the day. As a group, we are criticized for conforming to ancient gender roles, and unfortunately, for many, it is true. I wouldn't ever do any of these just to be "a real woman" but because I either like them or I want to pass (for example, in formal situations where all women are wearing makeup and almost becomes imperative to do so or else you might draw attention to yourself).

This is really NOT about any of those, not at least for me. I wouldn't go down this road and risk losing almost everyone and everything to get to wear high heels and pretty dresses at the end of the day. It's about being me, feeling at ease with my own body, and that's it.
Title: Re: My favorite things about being a girl.
Post by: Auroramarianna on June 29, 2014, 01:23:48 PM
I would also like to argue that it's not so much about "favorite thing about being a girl", that actually looks a bit fetishist, there are obviously advantages to being a girl and to being a guy but in the end I don't really think in terms of what's good about being a girl or a boy. It's more like you either know you are or you don't, I don't question that much of it anymore than being black-haired person, or being white.

There are sure advatanges to being a woman but, in my experience, this is never about acquiring certain benefits women have. Especially because the suffering, all the hard work, is only worth if you are aiming to be your genuine self, not to wear heels at the end of day srsly.

I thought I was going to get questions too, but I didn't.  I've had my left ear pierced since the 90s, so I started wearing a stud in the left, and one night I just went for it and pierced my right one too (although I recommend having a professional do it).  I thought it was going to generate a lot of questions etc.  But it has been 6 months since I've had holes in both of my ears and nobody has said a single word (I live in the south and work at a pretty conservative workplace).

When I'm at work I wear tiny 3mm silver balls they are noticeable, but extremely understated (nothing sparkly or girly at work).  But I have to admit, nothing makes me feel more girly than wearing earrings in both ears.  I just splurged on a pair of real pearls with 14k gold studs, and I love them (I'm wearing them right now).

Also 1 month is the bare minimum you want to let your ears heal.  I would not recommend going without something in them for at least 3-4 months.  After the first month, you can switch to clear piercing retainers (search "clear labret" or "piercing retainer") if you are getting questions.  They are not invisible, but they are not really noticeable unless someone is looking for them (you can even get away with wearing clear labrets when in military uniform).

all the best,
J.

My favorite things about when I'm a girl (which isn't too often since I'm still behind a closet door).

1. I get to feel happy for real, instead of just pretending.
2. Jewelry, Jewelry, Jewelry
3. painted nails
4. That feeling you get when you get your eye makeup just right.
5. The feel of smooth skin right after shaving my body hair.

(1) My long hair;

(4) People seeing me for who I really am instead of that fake poser I used to parade around as;
(5) My boobs. Love my boobs!

... Long hair. Perfumy olive fragrance as I caress it and lie on it. "I made this. This is mine."
... Glowing mat skin. Buh-bye big pores and oily face.
... Manicured nails. Buh-bye stubby fingertips. Sometimes with black nail polish!
... Being attractive...
... Constant happiness, joy and contentment.
... Breasts? Probably. But not quite yet. ;D
... Knowing there's a chance I can share in the womens average lifespan.

1. Cute clothes in bright colors.  When I was a guy I tended to dress really drab because I hated drawing attention to myself, but now I wear bright blues and greens that bring out my eyes and complement my hair.

2. Not having to constantly police the way I walk and talk.  If I do something fem and start doubting myself, I just think, "own it sister!" and I'm there.

3. Getting compliments from cis women about my hair and clothes.  That is a HUGE ego boost.

4. Getting gendered correctly more than occasionally.

5. Being comfortable showing my feelings for once; no longer feeling I have to "man up" and not cry during movies.
