"The Boy Scouts of America has agreed for the first time to allow openly gay boys as members, but a vote of the organization's National Council left in place a ban on gay Scout leaders." More than 60% of the voters supported the measure.
Gay rights supporters see this as a victory for gay youths, and predict that eventually the ban on gay leaders will end. Conservatives are disappointed.
Ahhhhh... that explains the shrieks I heard. They still have a ways to go though. I've always found it quite mystifying and dismaying that those that purport to follow certain 'teachings' which expound 'allegedly', love, forgiveness, tolerance and mercy seem to be the ones to express just the opposite response to anything that they percieve goes against their belief in other parts of said 'teachings'. If I said I didn't get some slight satisfaction from their squirming and anxiety, I'd be lying.
Bittersweet if you ask me. Gay leaders are still exempt. Transgender aren't allowed either. An incomplete decision if you ask me.
