Christian radio host Linda Harvey, has spoken out against anti-discrimination laws, to say that she thinks "no one needs to be involved in homosexuality", and that there was no need for anti-discrimination laws, because businesses only need to discriminate against those who "insist on displaying" the gay "lifestyle" to "everyone".
Harvey, of Mission America, made the comments on her radio bulletin, and said that, even if schools and employers could discriminate, it would "not deprive anyone of a job", as only those who "display" their "lifestyle" would be affected.
This disgusts me. So what now? Should straight people be punished for displaying their sexuality? I swear, sometimes I really begin to question what goes on in some people's heads. I am in no way religious, but, it is these sort of things that make many frown on the premise of religion. Why can't we all live in solace? Have we not come to a point in societal development where we can just assume that everyone gets equal rights? All these arguments about gay marriage and such really bother me. Is anyone hurt by this; does it in any way affect other people's lives? Aren't all men (and women) created equal? Do we not all deserve the same rights? I could go on about this all night, but it's getting a bit late and I should probably catch some sleep before school tomorrow. Chow!
*Oh. Since this is my first post, I should probably introduce myself. I'm transsexual, and starting HRT (mtf) in a week. I've prowled the forums before, but this is the first time I've commented*
I wonder what she means by "displaying their lifestyle"?
???
So, all she wants is for people to remain in the closet and not display who they or their real feelings? Just be robots? And if they fail, well time to fire them. Sounds totally reasonable to me. I guess it wouldn't be too much to ask her the same. Stop displaying your beliefs and feelings. And if you fall in love, just hide your feelings and repress. Otherwise, not school or work for you. I'm sure she will jump right on board to apply these standards to herself.
Wonder if Ms. Harvey goes out in public with her husband/boyfriend/significant other. If so, isn't she insisting on "displaying the heterosexual lifestyle to everyone."

This, and if they have the little fish thing on their car...or if they mention their faith
in any way...

Talk about wacky logic!
This is just another example of the Christian Right being neither.
Can I discriminate against radical christians who "display their lifestyle?"

I dunno... on one hand discriminating against them sounds fair. On the other hand I don't really want to lower myself to their level. I like to think I'm a better person than the radicals :)

I think it's best to destroy them with love, rainbows and hugs.
