Title: Body hair
Post by: xander on May 24, 2013, 07:37:59 AM
So I've recently moved from regular t shots to 3 monthly shots and I've noticed a significant increase in the amount of body and facial hair that I'm growing.

While new changes are exciting, I can't help but feel a bit uncomfortable with the body hair. It is growing a lot on my thighs, starting to bridge in my leg hair to my pubic hair. There's not a heaps, it's only just coming in. I don't really want to shave and I have allergic reactions to wax. So I need to adjust the way I see body hair.
What do you guys think of body hair? Was if hard to adjust? If you love it, why?

I occasionally shave when it feels itchy, but it's too much to keep up with so I got used to it. For me, the biggest thing was that it felt "dirty"...but I reminded myself that it's far from dirty, just like the hair on my head it gets soaped and cleaned when I shower. I also came to like how it looked because I feel like it makes my body look more masculine with the dark hair in the male body hair pattern.

I love my body hair so much, especially the thigh/quad hair - its a very masculine trait to me. I love going to the bathroom just so I can see my legs.

My hair is dark dark brown/black, very fine/thin hairs, but lots of them. very similar to the hair on my head. and my face. and my chest. which is why i have such a problem with ingrown hairs - hair isnt strong enough to push its way out and I'm having a lot of problems every time I get a bunch of new hair. I love the feel of the hairs though, theyre really soft and its like I've got a nice warm pelt for winter :P

the ingrown hairs will stop once my pelt has fully grown in i think, i'm just hoping that i get a full beard so i can stop shaving and save my face from turning into hamburger.

My leg hair growth is the best change i've had from T - its not shadowed by thoughts that i dont look 'man enough'. its pure happy!

Ingrown hairs, geez louise...I think every time a new hair sprouts on me it causes one. I've been very fortunate not to have much acne on my face but I have little spots on my arms, chest, stomach, and legs from ingrown hairs.

----

As far as body hair, I have a love/hate relationship with it. I am happy about my increase in length and thickness on my arms, legs, face, stomach, and chest (even if I do shave my chest right now pre op). However, I hate the dark thick hairs starting to pop in on my upper arms and my shoulders/upper back. I also have the dreaded "fluffy butt". My gf shaves my upper back for me right now. When I can afford it I'm thinking about getting one of those "No-No home electrolysis" systems to use on my unwanted hair.

Why do I love most of my body hair? Well, I've always equated hairy with manly. When I was a kid I loved the look of men's legs that had a lot of hair on them. I always thought guys who had legs that appeared smooth looked strange and out of place. My dad was a gorilla and most of the time he just walked around the house in nothing but shorts. Growing up I got used to seeing that and I guess it put in my head the feeling that men should have body hair.

I have never been a fan of body hair, and wasn't looking forward to getting some.. Haha. Cue shoulder rug. I've grown (haha) to accept it. I'm still dreaming of getting my back zapped after I've had top surgery. Will probably never afford it though. Not a cost I can prioritize.

Mine just popped up and kept on growing. I got used to it, I certainly wasn't going to shave, since I don't shave anywhere (my face rarely). So, I just went with it.

I love body hair... both on me and other people (regardless of gender).  If I had to have been born with a disease, and I could choose, it would be the one where you're basically covered in fur...

Obviously everyone is different.  You might get used to it... you may learn to like it.  If it turns out that you just can't deal with it, you could try sugaring, which is like waxing, but with sugar (I don't know all of the details) or you could get a No-no like on the commercials and tell me if it works.  I've always wondered, but I don't have hair I want to get rid of.  It's supposed to keep the hair at bay for a while.  Good luck!

I suppose time will tell. Maybe it's just because I'm so used to being hairless that this is quite a shock. Girls I knew pre-t have been pointing it out lately and I guess it's just making me over think it.
I don't feel too bad about it when I'm around other guys. Then it becomes kind of a contest   :D

Thanks for the responses! It's nice to know I'm not alone and it's even nicer to know that some people love body hair

Well, there is nothing wrong with thinking about these things. There was a time that I would wonder how I would deal with certain physical aspects of transition if/when they came. It's easy for those who aren't bothered by certain aspects to almost be dismissive to others (in the past I'm sure I have been short with other guys myself).

I had a time in the not too distant past where I was getting kinda paranoid about losing my hair. I would tell myself "well, it's part of being a man" and relate that to others without really owning up to my own fear of it.

I do understand where you're coming from. Change is hard and physically changing without having much say so in the effects a hormone is or may bring you is sometimes bothersome. Added onto that is relatives and friends who might remark about our second puberty saying, "Omg, you're getting so hairy" or "I think your hair may be thinning". When you're not even comfortable with those changes yet it sucks to have someone else point them out.

All I know to say is it takes time to basically get over certain aspects of transition. As far as my head hair...eh, it's hair. I don't want to lose it but I'm not willing to take a prescription medication that may cause sexual or other side effects the rest of my life to keep it. So far it's still holding strong with just more of a "M" shape to it. If it goes all I can say is it's a good thing I look great in hats, lol.

With your body hair by all means remove it until you're comfortable with it. I guarantee there will come a day that you just say screw it...because it's not worth the hassle of removing it. At that point you'll accept it as a part of you.

Hope that helps. I really wasn't going to go back into this topic but I've been up all night with pain waiting on my pills to kick in. Then while going in the forums I remembered how dismissive some guys were about this and that really wasn't fair.

Im pre T but I love the body hair I have, and I'm jealous of those with more body hair than I do. Well maybe not those with hairy hands so much because I get the feeling it'll just be impractical and get caught in things. I should become a chef like my dad used to be, he always burned his hand hair off by accident. Sometimes I do hate having body hair though, because when I was 12 I got constantly ribbed for it. I suppose you'd call it bullying, but I didn't think it was that bad then. My parents caught on and got me shaving against my wishes, I wanted to stop the bullies, but not lose my hair. Now it's been years since I shaved except for occasions where people will see the hair, just because I don't want to be the hairy woman from the circus freak show again.

Some cis guys shave, so you don't have to enjoy it to be a man. Although the ones which shave might just be doing that to keep their girlfriends happy...

Plenty of regular guys don't like body hair when they first start getting it. Plenty of times guys will only get so much body hair at puberty and then later on ... sometimes in their late 20's or 30's or beyond will end up getting more and they don't like it either. Not all guys like having hair all over the place. That's why laser hair removal and razors and "personal trimmers", etc. exist. If you don't like it, just get rid of it. Sure it's more of a hassle but it's what you do.

I have heaps of hair but it's not very visible because I'm blond. Counting out my legs, if nothing else my legs pass just fine. :D And now my arm hair has gotten a bit more visible since I tanned like never before (most likely because of T).
Over all, it's almost easier to say where I don't have hair than the other way around... Not that I mind.

I guess body hair is just a very masculine trait in my mind so that's why I don't mind having it. Honestly, I seem to have some kinda obsession to have a treasure trail... XD Don't ask why, I JUST WANT IT.

No change in body hair for me, legs still hairy, everything else still nude.  Ok, I have a few hairs on my face, but not many.

I was fairly hairless pre-T .... I hadn't shaved my legs for years and you couldn't even tell.

Now, a year and half on T I have hair on my arms, legs, chest and face...it took some getting use too but I have grown to kinda not mind it ... except under my arms ... I tend to shave those every three months or so ... I also shave my face b/c my wife doesn't like it.  To each their own ... shave it or keep it ... after so many years of conforming to gender standards it's kinda freeing to decide what I want and what I don't want ... I am going to be my own man and screw gender roles that have screwed me up far too long!

I'm pre T and can't wait for more body hair! I have lots now, but not as much as I'd like. Power to the wild follicles! I'm so new to being ftm I had no idea you could do a three a month shot? heard oral daily, shot daily, creams, never that, cool to know and it sounds more potent? What are the benefits of a three a month or is this because you need to slow down or something?

In the States we don't have the option of Nebido yet (the FDA hasn't approved it). You'll be hard pressed to find an Endo who will prescribe pills (and they're not worth it) because they kill your liver. Never heard of daily shots either.

I live in the US. All American baby! lol I heard pills where horrid and many wont even prescribe, I think the guy who did them daily had to take a low dose daily for some weird reason or he had lost his marbles, wouldnt doubt it. Im so new thats why I'm here to learn whats false floaters, real, and insane.

I am the most hairless transguy on T I know around in the trans comunety.

I got a ok amount on my legs but thats it. I almost dont have any hair otherplaces, a small mustache and abit on my stomach and tights. somehow I am okay with not having alot of hair so it dosent bother me so much. what bother me is where I got my hair. I wish I had more hair on my chin to make a proper beard, Insteed I have like 5 hairs on my shoulder and hair in my nose >:( what is up with that!

I'm cool with my body hair if it was more or thicker I might have an issue. You could use Nair a friend of mine uses it on her legs, she swears by it. They also make Nair for men if you would prefer to use that.

Just be warned, Nair smells BAD. And the smell lingers in the bathroom.

I've tried Nair before. Their old formula was awful, but the new stuff's ok. Only problem is, you need to use a LOT of it, which would get expensive (I used it once on my legs, and gave up on it after that just because I'd realized how much it takes to work). I might try it again once I get on T, though. I've already got thin black hairs all over my chest, shoulders and lower back. So I know those are gonna get fierce once I start on T. :/

I did buy an epilator when I was going for the female thing, and that works pretty fine for my butt cheeks (yes, I'm a hairy mofo already), but anything higher on the body than that is entirely too painful! For some reason the small, fine hairs are the most painful to pluck.

I can't wait to get facial hair, but at the same time, I'm terrified at how long and thick all my current hair is going to get. I'm gonna be a beast.

I don't really like mine but I think it's because I'm young. It clashes with my super young face. I have it EVERYWHERE kinda thick. Chin hair meets with neck, meets with chest, meets with belly, meets with pubes, meets with legs, meets with feet... Consistent line. I'm now the hairiest and youngest guy in my family.

I choose to shave mine down to a couple of mil as it itches under my binder. I used to get so many ingrown hairs shaving down to the skin!

All of this, and I have the thinnest mustache I have ever seen on a guy 1 year on T.

I haven't even started my T yet, and I have tons of hair all over already (which means by the end of the year I will likely be a yeti).  My thought is if it doesn't itch or physically bother you, just roll with it.  I find that any mild itchiness I have is not as bad as the irritation of ingrown hairs, so I gave up on shaving a while ago.

I suppose the major issue is that it is new, unfamiliar hair that is so irritating.  My thigh hair used to bother me since I didn't acquire it until my 20s.  I guess learning to accept and truly embrace the hairiness can be hard even for men, and you shouldn't feel forced to accept something about your body that you can't seem to get comfortable with.  Do whatever makes you feel comfortable in your own skin!
